They made a FE spinoff. The SMT part was dropped shortly after announcement.

The "inspiration" for gameplay was still SMT/MT.

Looking back at this last, I can see there's Luna, Sol, and Aether. I wish they had the Fire Emblem proc style, though. Still alright, I suppose. I also noticed they had Fog Breath from Nocturne and Watchful from DeSu. Aside from moves and stuff though, there's not all too much MT influence besides the battle system and some other minor stuff.

There is no way this game is going to flop. I wish it would, but it won't. Nintendrones are too thirsty for anything, plus the FE fans seem convinced this is an FE game.

I actually completely forgot about SF so you're right there. It wasn't being advertised as much, though, and SF was never a popular series in Japan or the US.
I would like to see this game have sales equal to SF but from what I've seen around a lot of people are excited for it. An RPG is way more alluring on a game-starved device than a budget StarFox game. I guess we'll know in a month or so how it did.

WiiU is already hacked. I don't know if there's a region free mod yet but you can certainly play JP games on a US/EU WiiU as long as you pirate it. Somebody on GBAtemp said they'll work on dumping the customs back into the US ISO, too, but I don't think anyone is going to fix the TL for the gravure dungeon.
