Blizzard is going to lose so much money

Blizzard is going to lose so much money

Literally every showing of this only has a handful seats reserved for the showing.
They even put it in at the IMAX theater near me, and none of it's sold out.

How much of a loss do you think it will be in the US?
Obviously China will recoup their budget costs

>160 million
Where did the budget go? Not in the sci-fi channel visuals, not in the nameless crew.

>they haven't already made a fuck ton of money on this piece of shit

It's shit, but it's still making an absurd amount of money.

what if they do a "extend your sub to wow for 6 months, get a free double pass to the warcraft movie"

If China is recouping their costs are they really losing money?

Nah, you're not consdering Hollywood accounting

This will still lose money

It's incredibly difficult to say because of hollywood accounting but you're pretty much guaranteed that this will make a huge amount of money in asia.

It's also unlikely that Blizzard financed this alone.

Marketing

Its always Marketing.

opportunity cost as well. they could have spent 160 million and years of effort into something that wasn't a fucking turd.

You sound bitter that Blizzard are successful.

Does that mean no surge of orc porn?

>Critics completely hate the movie
>Fans like the movie

Who is in the right here?
I mean, I saw it aid I didn't think it was as bad as Zoolander 2.

One thing you have to keep in mind is that budget =/= exactly what they need back.

Studios don't get 100% of ticket profit, they also need to pay back guarantees, outside investors with earning ratios beyond their initial loan, studio fees, etc. Also Chinese box office hurts the most because very little of a Chinese ticket price actually goes back to the studio.

Deadline already has shown that thanks to massive investment and guarantees for the production, for Warcraft to break even iit needs a box office earnings of $500m

I've heard shills saying "it's okay"
Not even "it's great"

They made $26m opening, and the box office turn over it massively underwhelming in the US, it's way under domestic expactations. China is only on course to rake in only $200-$250m total

Combine that with this post

Legendary isn't breaking even on this movie. There's a lot more to making back your money than having your box office = your budget.

I didn't see the movie, what's so bad about it ?

You could title this movie The Hobbit 4: Warcraft and it would seem like a fitting entry into the series.

If you've seen any of those movies, you'll understand what that means.

Normies see the movie and immediately dismiss it because of the name and association with the game that doesn't have a great reputation because of the people that play it.

Unfortunately normies are the majority of movie sales, and even if fans like it they are a small percentage.

I think i got the idea but could you explain a little bit ?

cgi piece of shit with no soul

holy fuck is that Lagnarr Lothbrook??? he plays the human guy that looks coool

Well I mean I thought it was okay, certainly not a masterpiece but not terrible either, although the movie will be lost on someone who has little to no prior knowledge of the lore behind it, which is easily the movie's fault.

Frankly I think that too much was packed into the movie, which left little room to establish the characters and explain exactly whats going on.

Every single scene from the trailers look like shit. Every single one.
And trailers are supposed to be the best scenes spliced together to make them look even better so people will want to watch the movie.

It isn't bad

Too much info with little explanation. Also normie WoW fans were expecting WoW The Movie.

one of the few okay actors in the movie, which is a shame
while i'm not intent on defending it, there have been a few movies with great trailers whereas the movie ended up being shit and vice versa, so i wouldn't place all your faith in those

It's already made itself back, so it can't loose them "so much money".

>It's already made itself back

Not even close. There are several posts in this thread already explaining why. Learn to read.

The term "Hollywood accounting" exists for a reason. Box offices need to be a good 3-4x the budget for the studio to actually break even on their cost.

>you will never get a warcraft animated series

Fuck this live action shit.

they'll lose money

Would this exact same movie but 100% Blizzard CGI/animation made the film any better? Would it have cost more or less?

Was Blizzard even the one which contributed the capital?

I like the Orc but that head snap...

Nothing , its a fun movie but the retards here on Sup Forums are just negative about everything and probably haven't even watched it and just make shit up

It's an ok movie if you take it for what it is: a movie aimed at children and grown autists.

Don't take it seriously and it's kinda enjoyable. The dialogue is Warcraft, the settings are Warcraft, the plot is Warcraft. It's just as shit as the shit you've played for years.

Blizzard doesn't do the cool CGI shit

>head snap
That's a neck, user.

Those "fans" tend to be Blizzard employees. It's why I don't even bother with the official forums or "fansites" owned by Blizzard.

Better than it should have been. Not perfect but still a good movie. 8/10

>It's an ok website if you take it for what it is: a website aimed at children and grown autists.

>Would this exact same movie but 100% Blizzard CGI/animation made the film any better?

Well after 48 years the first episode would come out and we'd never have to worry about a shitty followup because we'd all be dead by the time the second one happened.

It was cut from almost 3 hours down to 2

Compare this earlier leaked scene:
youtube.com/watch?v=7ePGvdc2--E

They cut the death-life chant down to two lines in the release

I'm thinking more along the lines of something cartoonish, like that 2d clone-wars stuff.

Has to be cheaper than Blizzard's cutscenes or CGI.

>Blizzard doesn't do the cool CGI shit

>This shit again

Yes they do, you can watch them making it in any of the collectors edition blurays and DVDs for WoW expansions. You can see their CG team at BlizzCon.

Your stupid shit you're talking about is pre-viz, they farm out pre-viz to a Korean studio once they finalize the screenplay for the cinematic so they can work on assets in the mean time, their team is very small.

>Budget: 160 Million
>Box Office: 171 Million
>Only 10 Million earned

B L U N D E R

I don't know if you all watched it but honestly it was great. I'd written blizzard off entirely after having managed to fuck up every single one of their franchises but this movie was excellent. The critique is that if you didn't play Warcraft or even WoW then you'll have no idea what's going on the whole time or why it's going on. This movie wasn't made for normies to go see it. If you know the lore, you will like it. And for the record they did makes few slight changes to the lore in the movie but nothing really mattered. The CGI wasn't as bad as everybody who hasn't seen it is saying, and even the battle scenes looked good.

>Earned

See

No, it's a success. And it will only get bigger as the year passes by. Unfortunately. I want it to crash and burn as much as the next guy here, but they are still big enough not to sink just yet.

I am buying this filmin thepiratebay today.

What am I getting into? Should I have a backup plan?

Wrong. The inflated budget IS the Hollywood accounting. Tax writeoffs for jews.

Its already massively profitable

why do you want it to crash and burn

Its literally a fine movie

why is everyone so bitter

I'm aware, that's exactly why its a blunder

Where do you think you are?

the real abomination is the Deepwater HOrizon trailer they showed before the warcraft movie

I just meant the way the head turns.

>why do you want it to crash and burn

Because Blizzard is arrogant towards their WoW player base and use bullshit manipulated sub numbers from China to silence all their valid complaints about WoW. They're assholes who take their success and fans for granted.

Blizzard needs a reality check in some form they can't lie their way out of, and a third party like a Hollywood studio having to write off losses on a Warcraft movie is a good way to accomplish that.

I heard that it's almost 100% lore/exposition and nothing else, so if you're into that I can see why someone might like it. Haven't seen it yet, going in a few weeks with my brother (assuming it's still in theaters by then).

>Its already massively profitable

It's currently profited $160m in box office.

They would need to get 98% of ticket value to even break even at this point. It doesn't work like that, especially in China.

This is totally fucking wrong.
Studios get 100% of the ticket cost, that's why concessions cost so much money, because theaters get 0 dollars from ticket sales.

After a movie has been in the theater two or three weeks, they start giving a percentage to the theater, or else the theater won't be able to keep the movie in their houses any longer.

International box office is totally different. A huge chunk of it never comes back to the US.

The only valid complaints about wow is that the game isn't like an old game and that pisses off a small amount of people

When considering all the "bullshit" they've added to the game is the reason it got to be as big as it was, why would they cater to a small majority

You retards are so pathetic

The human on poster is Ragnar Lothbrok in Viking, that alone will make me torrent that otherwise shitty looking movie.

Now that looks like a fucking shit movie

>lol it's earned back it's budget!

No it hasn't. The film cost 160 million or so to make. Now, multiply that by 2 to 2.5 for advertising. Now add in that the studio gets about 50% of a domestic ticket sale, and anywhere from 10-30% on a foreign ticket sale. Then you have to pay everyone who was involved in the production.

This movie is going to have a hard time getting anywhere close to breaking even.

>I got an idea
>lets make an action movie over the BP oil spill
>But ya lets forget about all the oil that polluted the golf that isn't fun

>When considering all the "bullshit" they've added to the game is the reason it got to be as big as it was
>The game pop is half of what it used to be

Ok.

>Also Chinese box office hurts the most because very little of a Chinese ticket price actually goes back to the studio.

This is usually the case, but Legendary is literally a chinese company now so they're gonna see more of a return on the gross there

Why do people even bother to make posts like these with fake figures? What is the point in trying to argue something you literally don't know.

You don't need to defend/attack everything.

I haven't seen it yet. If I go see it and it is complete shit like it seems, I will find you and kick you in the balls.

>it is still the single largest MMO on earth
>implying blizzard expected to keep every single player aqcuired and didn't account for the lifecycle of long lasting games

You are all fucking idiots. Just because you want to truly believe Blizzard is a company made of 100% hacks doesn't make that true.

>Studios get 100% of the ticket cost

Sure they do buddy, and that's why not all theater pries are the same and seating is priced differently.

>pls stop being right

Denial i see

Seating isn't priced differently?

Considering you have already made your bias clear you are probably not going to like it

This is how you ruin things user

>Now, multiply that by 2 to 2.5 for advertising

Not every single movie has an inflated marketing budget, senpai. You're thinking that because Batman v Superman spent $150 million on marketing that every single movie does.

Did you see a superbowl ad for Warcraft? Was Legendary literally buying commercial planes to put an ad for the movie on them?

Saw a free showing for it before it came out.

Even then the theater wasn't full.

Was the BP accident caused by negligence or was it actually an accident?

Seems like a weird movie to make if these fuckers purposely cheaped out and caused all that oil poulltion

Not my fault. Considering they spend so much on advertising, maybe they should have show. something decent during the pre-release stuff. I don't just randomly go watch things like a fanboy.

I have worked in multiple theaters as management and can assure that that the studios get 100 percent of the ticket price and the theater sees none of the ticket money.
Thats why the drinks, food, and arcade are expensive because it's the main source of profit.

I think negligence a little bit,

But Its an action movie

It stars Mark Wahlberg jumping around an exploding and in flames oil rig

Think about it

HERE'S SOME REAL FACTS

The production budget is $160 million, the marketing budget $110 million.
That means it needs to make more than ~$500 million to make a profit

>Is this possible?
Yes

>How?
After his weekend it has guaranteed made over $100 million in Europe.
It's projected to make at least $300 million in China, but considering it has broken several of F7 records (although, F7 did have a massive opening) it could very well get closer to $400 million.

Considering it will make continue to make money in Europe (it hasn't even opened in a few European countries), and the fact that it will make even more money in Korea, Japan, South America, Australia etc, it will definitely make more than $500 million.

How much over $500 million though? Not too much I would guess. I'm guessing it will reach ~$600 million.

Wrong. The marketing isn't just here in the states but abroad as well. They probably spent greater than the budget of the film advertising in China and other countries. Marketing costing equal to the film's budget is lowballing it. Most movies, even lower budget ones spend more on advertising than the actual film itself.

Blizzard is actually rolling in so much dosh it won't effect them very much if it fails.

>enough money to buy themselves back from Activision.
>enough money to buy candy crush
>enough money to develop and launch 3+ new game franchises simultaneously.
>enough money for a 160 million dollar movie.
>enough money to pay legions of shills, including Anti Battleborn/Falseflag shills.

>Anti Battleborn shills

>Studios get 100% of the ticket cost

Are you retarded? No they don't. Good job buying into the bullshit to make you think concessions aren't overpriced.

Not only do they not get 100% of ticket value, they also have to pay investor dividends on the ticket profits before they receive their portion of it.

A perfect example of this is Hunger Games Catching Fire. That movie had an announced budget of $130m. It pulled in $420m in domestic box office alone. Lionsgate announced to investors later that year that they got $260m of that, and that didn't even break even because the budget doesn't account for marketing nor for dividends and guarantees that they paid to the investors first.

So do that math, $130m announced budget and $420m domestic box office didn't even break them even.

Never underestimate the power of Hollywood Accounting. For some strange reason, the latest Fantastic 4 movie made a profit and that PG Cinderella movie no one's heard about is in the top 10 most profitable movies of 2015

Off Overwatch maybe. The Warcraft movie is fucking bombing

>that humie sperging out on the bottom right
Just stab the green bastard.

>I have worked in multiple theaters as management and can assure that that the studios get 100 percent of the ticket price

You can cut the bullshit, no one's buying it.

Especially when people who have worked at theaters know you would never know profit ratios, those are discussed between studio distribution heads and local distributors, your theater itself never agreed to anything directly with the studio, there was intermediary.

Fucking this, I'm so tired of all the miserable cunts fucking telling me how shit this movie is without even fucking seeing it. It was mostly good barring some serious pacing issues. I feel bad for the people who just go out of their way to shit on anything Blizzard does, like how jaded do you have to be to be like that?

Dbox, moving seats, premium seats.

Oh look, the obligatory "my dad works for Nintendo" post.

I saw it Thursday night.
It's anything but a fine movie.
It's a fucking clusterfuck and the bits of humor that are Warcraft related don't even feel right.

They left out huge parts of Warcraft lore and everyone left confused, even people with WoW shirts on were talking about how they didn't understand it.

Theater Manager is an incredibly low tier job. People can get it after working concessions for a year.

actually you get like 3 months of sub if you buy ticket in poland/france

...

>chinese company going to fund the next film
>half of extras are chinese and supporting roles

That name is blocked because you can't use honour titles like King. Mature language is just the blanket error for blocked names.

A: I don't believe you

B: its literally one of the most easily understood movies ever. If you can't understand what happened then you should go back to preschool because it isn't some mindfuck plot

C: There was minimal subtly warcraft related humor. The joke about polymorph lasting 60 seconds would fly over the head of anyone who hasn't played wow but its a funny inside joke for those who do

I saw it

It was trash

>people who look at this webm don't understand the context that thrall roured at his dad once before in the movie and then does it again
