I'm a newbie to this franchise and only ever played Super Mario World at a friend's house when I was little (I was a Sega kid). What are the top five games that I should try?
Top five Mario games
smw, mb3 and sm64
Mario World
Mario 64
Mario Galaxy 1 & 2
Mario Bros 3
tomb raider 2
my cousin and i used to play with each others genitals and kiss each other up until like the age of 11
64, Galaxy 2, 3D World, SMW, NSMBU
Now we're not even scratching the surface in terms of spinoffs and Mario family titles like Donkey Kong or Wario
Listen to this man. New Super Mario Bros. Wii isn't bad either if you can only get a Wii instead of a Wii U.
Paper Mario.
It was really cool.
Get/emulate 'Mario Allstars + Mario World'
SMB3
Yoshi's Island
SM64
SMW
SMG1/2
If you are looking for only platformers, these are the best 5 no contest.
>Galaxy 2, 3D World, NSMBU
All these games are shit. Are you 15?
SMB3
Mario RPG
SM64
Yoshi's Island
Mario & Luigi
My favourites would be Mario 64, Mario Galaxy, Super Mario World and the direct sequel, Yoshi's Island
This. Start with this, no matter what. After that dive into the 3D ones, namely 64, Sunshine, Galaxy 1 and 2.
Then you can alternate NSMB with 3D Land/World
Nothing 3d if you actually got taste... like all Zelda.
SMB3
Yoshi's Island
Super Mario 64
Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door
Why'd you stop?
>putting up with this awkward changes for the original and Lost Levels
Solid recommendation for every other game though
SMB 3
Super Mario World
Super Mario Land 2
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Galaxy
If we're talking purely platformers, then:
>Super Mario World
>Super Mario Bros 3
>Super Mario 64
>Super Mario Sunshine
>Super Mario Galaxy (and 2 if you like the 1st one)
After that, give the Paper Mario series a go, and then the "New" series of platformers. Maybe the sports series if you have a few friends to play with
They were decent remakes imo
SMW, SMB3, SM64, SMG1/2, NSMBW
Tell me you were both girls.
Wiiu is backwards compatible with the Wii
>breaking a block as you're running underneath it can bring you to a complete halt sometimes
This is insanely unacceptable in what is an otherwise great remake especially considering they bothered to fix the other hitboxes (I think anyway). That being said, someone made a patch to correct it so I guess that's okay.
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros. 3
Super Mario 64
Super Mario 3D World
New Super Mario Bros. U
Those are the more traditional games I recommend, I would highly recommend Paper Mario as well.
SMB3 is better than World. Get that, 64, Galaxy 2, 3D World and Yoshi's Island.
I know that thread always starts with SMW in the OP, but this isn't a "post your favourite game and darkest secret" thread user.
Gameplay is tighter IMO, not to mention great graphics (inc. day and night) and music.
>gameplay is tighter
>coming to an complete stop when running and hitting a brick is tighter
Aside from a few level changes to make things easier for the player (podoboos jump higher and some walls are blocked to stop players getting stuck) literally nothing gameplay wise is changed outside of that weird brick physics decision.
I'd say these.
Except switch out Galaxy 2 with the first one.
Super Mario World
Super Mario Bros 3
Super Mario Land
Game Boy Donkey Kong
Yoshi's Island SNES
New Super Mario Bros U
Super Mario 64
Super Mario Galaxy
There is a nice sample for u, world, 3 and 64 are seen as series gold, 2 spin offs with yoshi's island and Donkey Kong, odd man out with Mario Land (leads into Wario spin off if you follow it as well), then 2 more modern Mario games to sample.
Oh yeah and for rpgs you got Paper Mario, and Mario & Luigi: Super Star Saga for good spin offs there.
Super Mario RPG is good as well and 1st one to start it all.
1. Super Mario World
2. Super Mario All-Stars (or SMB3)
3. Super Mario 3D World
4. Super Mario Galaxy 2
5. Super Mario Galaxy
>Game Boy Donkey Kong
Not a true Mario game, don't start here
>Yoshi's Island SNES
Mario World in name only, nothing like the classic series
>New Super Mario Bros U
Shit neo-Mario, only liked by millenials who have never played the old games
>Super Mario Galaxy
Same as above, and overrated as fuck
Check out user's hot opinions in an opinion thread, fresh
Butthurt cause you know its true
Worst tastes ever
Game Boy Donkey Kong is Mario, spin offs count or are you gonna say the RPGS aren't Mario?
And feel free to have whatever opinion you want on the newer stuff but I felt my list should include a large sample
2d
3d
Spin offs
New stuff
RPG
>Top five Mario games
Mario All Stars + World. They were even nice enough to put it all on one cart.
I just think OP should experience classic Mario before playing the spin-offs. He won't enjoy the RPGs as much either if he isn't familar with the Mario universe.
>video games
>Super Mario
>taste
Get real
When's the best time to play Super Mario Bros. 2 (JP)?
Whenever u want, beating it is a better question though
I disagree, yeah sure I had some Mario experience under my belt but I remember liking Mario RPG for its attempts at humor not because of being familiar with the verse. Then again I was a dumb kid at the time and liked things like the mario movie (which I still do I guess)
