I'm a filthy casual gamer. I used to play Elite waaaaaay back in the day, and was wondering if Elite Dangerous is fun for a casual who enjoyed (and was good at) the original?
Lots of people say it's shallow but surely it can't be more shallow than the old 8 bit version?
Or, is there another trading-pirating-exploring game you recommend?
Carson Gutierrez
Space as a genre is dead. Get out while you still can.
John Evans
"space as a genre" what does that even mean?
Cameron Ramirez
Any game featuring space, from space sims like Elite and X to Starcraft.
Kevin Adams
Its perfect for you.
Its absolute shit for anyone who wants a modern space game.
Austin Scott
So whats a better modern space game?
Henry Nelson
X3: Albion Prelude is probably the best if you want trade and exploration. Maybe even pirating if you have Litcube's Universe installed.
Kevin Baker
There isnt one, they all suck
John Young
Nope.
Elite Dangerous is worth ever fucking penny.
Play with flight assist of for maximum immersion.
Landon Jones
There making the game in pieces it will take 10 years to have the whole game. It's comfy as fuck honestly.
John Brown
>mining Oh god why user
You have so much life in you, why waste it so
Matthew Stewart
I heard the new update makes combat "too hard": but I don't know if that's hard by 8-bit standards or modern standards?
Caleb Martin
It could be worse I could be explorin' the universe.
Landon Sullivan
i can not advise you to ever support that shitty dev , Frontier are assholes and are just terrible devs in general
Josiah Johnson
8-bit
The primary player base is massively casual, they consider all forms of PvP to be griefing.
Logan Scott
FOX ONLY
Jeremiah Hill
It made the AI too hard, that has been corrected.
Robert Lee
X3 is something you can try, but it's far from casual
Julian Mitchell
so the AI is back to reasonable level?
Juan Hill
Harder by modern standards they nerfed the npc's ships though they disabled there mods.
Nicholas Mitchell
But it's a complete jew move, £30 per fucking expansion? Way to not only alienate potential customers by having individual expansions be more expensive than the base game, but also segregate your playerbase.
VISION
Owen Gray
>reasonable level If you consider so fucking stupid you can cheese all the games AI by driving backwards 'reasonable', sure.
Blake Johnson
yikes. between the uneven money-grab updates and this, I'm starting to get put off...
Lincoln Bailey
>but also segregate your playerbase. Even the people who buy it are segregated. There was a massive shitstorm because the developers idea of custom weapons was 'grind the living shit out of missions until you RNG a minor effect so 1 of your weapons will do something cool but be useless because having 1 of anything is worthless when you need multiple of them' when most people wanted the ability to work up to a weapon and buy it with a set effect you could get.
So like a typical fucking Frontier developer they decided to say 'fuck the community' and go for RNG anyway. The amount of pointless grinding is fucking insane, if they removed it the entire game could be experienced in 20 minutes.
Oliver Reyes
X:Rebirth was supposed to be, well, the rebirth of the X games and space exploration in general. Only it got a deserving "fan" name; X:Afterbirth. Holy shit, how could they drop the ball so hard after all the other X games?
Carter Morris
Frontier are honestly awful developers. They are so stuck in the past they refuse to do even the most basic shit and stick to the vision of original Elite with better graphics with a fanatical devotion.
Caleb Butler
You will prob like because they literally port the original elite gameplay to modern times...and that is why the game is failing
Chase Perez
Yah the quality of the product is really really high, its just missing a few features which is a shame.
Cooper Cooper
Their fanbase was entirely expecting the game to be broken and unplayable on launch, and they were STILL let down.
How the fuck do you fuck up that god damn badly, like seriously?
Nicholas Stewart
>missing a few features Understatement of the century. You cant even fucking send players money.
They are so fucking backwards, it drives me insane.
Austin Wilson
There was a bug with a new system they rolled out that basically gave the NPCs superweapons. It wasn't too difficult so much as it was completely broken.
Kevin Torres
>cant send a player money >but you can get a billion dollar bounty on your head and just let your friend kill you for that bounty Logic. It is not on the Frontier of Frontier development.
Adrian Walker
Give it time I'm sure they will have everything added. This type of game relies on longevity since its so fucking big, and it has to wait for enough people to have a pc able to run it.
John Cooper
No they wont. They have explicitly said multiple times they wont implement these otherwise basic features.
Lincoln Perez
I don't even know user.Even after all the bad news, I was still hyped as fuck, being a true X fan, and bought it on release. I wish Steam had refunds back then. Evem shit as simple as talking to NPCs was tedious. The fucking map was a pain to navigate.
How can you fuck up simple shit like that after their track record?
Elijah Campbell
SS13 is the best space game. Prove me wrong.
Alexander Jenkins
>Give it time I'm sure they will have everything added This is the same bullshit lie they told everyone on the kikestarter but now we know its got absolutely nothing to do with time or resources, they simply REFUSE to add in basic features. They are going to add in more and more content for sure but their inability to realize the basic shit you find in space games today is what is needed in Elite is going to ensure the game never achieves its potential.
Nolan Sullivan
Nigger its been a year and a half and you still can't interact with other players in any way meaningful way is by shooting them or bumping into them.
The 'background simulation' which is the only reason for online only is completely meaningless.
Justin Evans
I'm in the same boat man.
Primary theory is that it was designed for consoles but didn't really work out on 360/PS3 hardware and they weren't big enough to take the hit of just scrapping it. Mostly because of shit like the interface. I remember the map screen listing like, 8 fucking entries at a time on the list on the right, and it was the only way to scroll through the objects in system. There is no way shit like that was designed with the PC in mind.
Luis James
They have to, the games survival depends on it.
Thomas Parker
No it doesnt. The forumdads and ancient fucktards who play Elite are spending so much money on these expansions and skins its going to stay afloat forever no matter what Frontier does.
Frontier doesn't give a flying fuck about you or me or even the massive market they could tap into if they added in the most basic shit, they only care about the cash cow forumdads because its safe money.
Jesus they even fucking defended the entire planetary landing expansion being separated into two parts, after frontier promised it would be a 1 time purchase for all planetary content.
Adrian Lewis
As an ancient fucktard myself, Frontier sound like terrible developers and I don't want to support that bullshit.
Blake Campbell
They are awful, and I will forever be fucking mad I spent money backing it.
Zachary Moore
I bought it when it was $6 or whatever and its fine for that.
The amount of expansion pass jewing is massive however
Owen Lee
What's weird is: it seems as though the older guys who just wanna grind and trade could do all that WITHOUT having to fuck over the players who want a more interactive modern side to the game.
Jace Jackson
if you like triangles you will love Elite: Dangerous!
John Williams
They release updates 2.1 and used 6months. They were late by 6months user. They still have 4 knit patches to go for this year. With 2.1, they managed to give this game more Korean f2p mmo grinding and shitty RNG on top of that.
