Actually an FPS Mega Man could be amazing if a miracle occurs. I've always thought that Mega Man is somewhat like Metroid, where nothing about its soul is really dependent on its perspective.
But you'd need a dev that understands it on a deep level, and so could reconstruct the 3D equivalents of the 2D essence.
Metroid prime was a miracle, but even that only got it about 90% correct.
