But they do, the geometry is literally the same, it's not like the downgrade is visible, the lighting and the aliasing in the top panel is better, the shadows are the same in both and even the resolution is high.

aside from the hardcore fans, hasn't pretty much everyone given up on nintendo in the last 5 years?

i'm not even making fun of nintendo for the fact that they only put out first party bullshit. its not like i want them to disappear. but they are killing themselves. if you were a developer and had the option of spending time porting your game from 1 platform to the next bunch, what would you spend your time on? xbox and playstation are similar in hardware capability and of course pc fits into that range. the wiiu though is so underpowered, it would take developers a lot of work to downgrade textures and who knows what else, just to make shit work on it. its not worth their time. thus nintendo is basically producing a first party-only console. and maryoh just isn't selling like it used to. things are only looking worse for the nx. nintendo is about to push a new console which will maybe match the current ps4/xbox in power, while xbox/ps4 are pushing .5 versions of themselves for more power and are still working on the next gen.

It's very apparent that the 2014 screenshot was prerendered or something, even without the extra bullshit in OP's image.

My biggest gripe with the game's graphics is half the time, there appears to be some hideous brown smog that muddies up the whole image, as if they're trying to go for some sort of realistic look. However, what it ends up doing is conflicting with the cel-shaded art style. This game is nice to look at when it's not present, but that doesn't occur very often.

If they removed the shitfog and maybe increased the contrast, and gave the grass more definition, I think it would look really close to the 2014 screenshot.

Them trees is certainly sparse and unnatural. It looks like they started with 5x as many, then realized it took too much power to handle all those trees at once because the leaves all move and you can climb them.

People were upset that Watchdogs looked undeniably ugly AND they promised "YOU CAN DO ANYTHING" and you could only actually do a couple things and it honest to god felt lazy. People were a little perturbed at the Witcher 3 downgrade but it still turned out to be a legitimately great game with some great visuals where the love and care from the developers really showed because of how high quality mostly everything was. Also the game was pretty much was they said it would be so no one really felt lied too. I don't think anyone didn't expect a downgrade for Zelda and while I'm not saying it's okay to to that, the game itself looks really really cool and fun so people are looking forward to it.
tl;dr The new Zelda looks like Dragons Dogma 2 so people are excited about it.

I think the game looks OK. the real problem I have is with the UI. Its fucking ugly. I hate that shitty stamina circle. There has to be a more natural way to convey that.

Pretty sure they actually showed that as gameplay footage at one point, but it was literally just Link sitting there on his horse, not moving around or fighting or anything.

I'd rather they just never show these dishonest pictures / gameplay videos. When they show these awesome looking games then they end up downgraded it is kind of a letdown.
