No. They'll still be games you can't get a steady 60fps with MSAA utltra shadows hairworks etc.

No. A 970 can't run everything maxed at 1080p 60fps but a 1070 sure as hell could

Not at 144 hz

It's only worth it if you plan on using it with a 144hz display. For 1080p60hz it's overkill, get an RX 480 if you don't plan on going over 60hz.

>RX 480
Here we go

Quality post

Just get the Sapphire RX 480.

It only takes a few minutes for an AMD shill to find their way into your thread and reccomend a card that isn't even out and properly reviewed yet

It will do 1080/100+fps for a few years.
He is right, this is overkill as fuck for a 60hz monitor at 1080p.

Either go 1440p/60hz for a really nice visual boost. The jump from 1080p to 1440p is pretty big. Or just get a 1080p/144hz monitor and while you won't hit 144fps in alot of games even 60fps to 100fps is a huge noticeable difference

When you play something consistently 100+ fps, and swap to a sub 60FPS game like Arma its jarring as fuck

>The jump from 1080p to 1440p
You are completely delusional if you honestly believe this

spotted the guy still on 1080p

The 1000 series was made so developers could start doing more complex VR games

if that's your yardstick, then no GPU is good enough for 1080p because there are always games no GPU can max out.

yes. 1070 is a good choice for QHD or UHD. For FullHD it's way overpowered. A 480 or 1060 or even 470 will max out 98% of games at at FullHD.

just think of the overkill as insurance against shitty ports ... which is pretty much all of them.

there is no market for VR games so they won't

Hey just popping in to say you're a fucking idiot. Anyone that listens to you is a fucking moron as well.

just play shitty ports on high settings instead of ultra.
Spending $400 for a GPU that's only 20% faster than a $200 GPU is retarded

Not yet, but the fact that VR capable cards are under 800 ameribucks its going to boost developers to create better looking and more complex games, which will create more interest in VR and then its a vicious circle

I am trying to buy a 1080, this is the first time i've tried to buy a cpu at launch and I cannot manage to locate one. Microcenter gets only 6 into stock on a tuesday, marks them up by $150 and they sell out within one hour.

Is it always this bad? I assume it's going to be even worse for you guys going for a 1070, it's gonna be months before you can buy one. the headstart nvidia has over amd right now becomes kinda meaningless, unless amd has shortages too and you end up unable tot get the new amd card until next year

It is significant. Especially for people who have been on 1080p for like a decade. 4K is a bigger jump but 4k/60hz is still too expensive.

Yes. 1440p 144hz is the way to go

Yes its always this bad, especially when they are pretty good for their price.

1140p is a meme resolution because it has no future, not because it isn't infinitely better than 1080p

>A resolution has no future
How does that work? Will all QHD monitors self destruct in 2020?

Dev's incompetence at optimizing advances at the same pace than technology does. So no, they'll manage to make games that both run and look like shit, no matter how great a GPU they have to work with.

Futureproof.

Depends on what for. If he's looking to go 100+ fps for the next few years at 1080p it'll serve him well. For 1080p 60FPS selling + replacing would be more cost effective.

Well, to his defense, nvidia shills were CERTAIN of the 1080 before it was even called a 1080. But although I see where you're coming from, I can't help but be hyped a bit about this stuff. It's all just so good, even if they flop a bit, for that price, I'm willing to forgive a lot.

This.
Stop posting.

meme

>next few years
every GPU ever sold is obsolete after 2-3 years.
You can now buy a $150 GPU that's just as fast or faster as the $700 GPU from 2013. Anyone who bought a a GPU in 2013 thinking it would be future proof is a moron.
The smart choice is to upgrade often and sell your GPU while it still retains some of its original value

is the rx 470 a meme card?

>samefagging with no arguments

970/780ti performance for $150 is not a meme

>Futureproof.
I don't know buddy. ..
Next year is the debut of PCI-E 4.0.

I do not know what you mean with future proof. Right now, it does not seem like you get a huge advantage from using it outside VR and for some 4K games and you only get to choose 2 out of 3 for that resolution:
>60 or Higher FPS
>4K
>Ultra Settings.

I was too impressed when I heard the the GTX 1070 was a little more powerful than a titan, and the 1080 even more so, but in reality you only have games that can be maxed out already by a 780 - 970, or games that don't even have a good performance on high end cards. (See The Division and Quantum Break on a GTX1080)

I think it is pretty retarded to buy one if you play on a single monitor, and at 1080p 60Hz. It really depends more on the monitor set up than the actual games.

For me future proof is a card that will serve my needs for years before it becomes obsolete. I want a new GPU but my 750ti can still run DOOM at medium settings at 60FPS. In other games the difference between Mid and High is barely any different (See Dark Souls 3 and The Division) and in games like The Division the only truly noticeable difference comes from 4K Resolution.

A RX 480 seems like a better card because it is cheap, it sets to do what it says on the tin, and since console ports will most likely use AMD, there might be an advantage. GTX 1070 and 1080 for the moment are not great on anything using the DX12 meme.

But then again I won't even presume I know shit, it is just my take, and I am assuming I am wrong, but I rather hear it now than live in ignorance.

Nvidia shills were doing it for the 1080 and 1070 before they were out. Did you complain about it then?

You do not even have to wait:
youtube.com/watch?v=VsaSdTMv7ms

What the fuck Remedy?

Why does it matter if you can't find one?

Will a 1070 be able to run 1440p 144fps?

*tips*

>Next year is the debut of PCI-E 4.0.
if true the 1080 that is on sale today will be an expensive paperweight in 18 months

Since it's your mom's money we are talking about, why asking? Buy that shit

Based on what? The jump from PCI-E 2.0 to 3.0 was negligible. What makes you think 4.0 will be any different?

It'll only be able to reproduce 1070 pixels instead of 1080

1080p? get the 1080

>All these c'ucks setting themselves to buy new cards this year
PCI-E 4.0 + Ti models will make all early adopters want to end themselves.
I will simply grab a 1070ti and have a laugh at all the idiots who bought the "Founders" A.k.A "Good Goy" edition.

Enjoy your pesudo GTX 970 performance AMD poorfags. That shit won't be able to run games on low settings this time next year.

T. A GTX 780 owner who can still enjoy maxed out games. If you fell for the 900 / 1000 series meme, you are retarded.

pcie 4.0 is worthless when pcie 2.0 doesn't make a difference in fps.
GTX 1080 is great for 1440p 144hz.

your post is stupid.

Not really, it only means better transfer rates. As user said the change from 2.0 to 3.0 did not make GPUs at the time obsolete.

Besides it has been a rumor for years now. There is nothing to back that there will be a PCI-E 4 anyways next year, perhaps 2018 earliest.

Even if it came out it only means NVIDIA and AMD would need to design a new series that can take advantage of it, they won't be releasing them as soon PCI-E 4.0 is announced, maybe a year after that.

>unironically supporting a meme squashed resolution
>calling anyone stupid

Okay kiddo.

>All of my choices are the most intelligent and anyone who does anything differently to me is stupid

you need SLI'd 1080 Ti if you want to run Skyrim ENB

Is that what I'm supposed to do with old GPUs? I just recycle them.

Should I get a 1070 Sup Forums? thinking of selling my 670 to my brother for $150

The 1080p has enough performance to rush through nearly every modern game in 1440p...so yes, it is overkill for 1080p..by a mile.
Hell even the 1070 is somewhat overkill for 1080p gaming really to be honest.

So im gon-a get a 21:9 1080p monitor soon, will the 1080 be enough for maxing out games at 60fps?

To clarify I mean for 1080p@60FPS selling and replacing a lower tier card like the RX4Maymay would be more cost effective than dropping $400-$500 on a GTX 1070 and hoping it lasts you and getting a completely shit price for it because you waited to long to off load it.

get a 3440x1440 instead, 2560x1080 is kinda meh

and yeah it can for the most part, you cant max out arma games and probably assassins creed syndicate but nothing can

>thinking of selling my 670 to my brother for $150
What a shitty brother
You can find that shit for cheaper on ebay

It's not overkill if you have a 144Hz monitor.

>gave him a gpu for free before

>shitty for telling him what its worth and hes willing to pay for it

thx though cuck

With today's hilariously un-optimized games? no.

>a 670 is worth 150 bucks in 2015+1
If he buys it for that he's as retarded as you

9/10 you got me to reply twice

night

>telling him what its worth
It's worth a third of that at best. He could get a brand new 470 for $150 and get significantly better performance than on your 4 year old hand-me-down.

>470
>670s are 100 on buy it now on ebay
>50 more dollars

wah wah wah

if he buys it he buys it gonna go now

Nobodies crying child. We're just in shock that you would take advantage of your brother like that.

>he's just baiting I'm not retarded
Whatever helps you sleep at night buddy

Yeah, I have a 480 and I can't max out a single current gen game, I can maybe get 60fps on medium to low settings
kill urself

I got all that with a 970

That's pretty jew of you. A 670 wouldn't be worth that much brand new and boxed let alone after 4 years of use.

>I almost fell for this
Need a nap

If you use any dumb gaymwerks shit you won't hit 60 fps at 1080p anyway.

This.
People forgot that sometimes you had to downgrade your drivers to make it werk, fallout 3 was the best example of this.

I'll wait for the RX 480 to come out before deciding.

Is it this month? I'd wait if it's that soon. Hell I'd wait if it was next month.

Comes out in 11 days.

Well shit. You'd be retarded not to wait.

>people cant wait for custom coolers so they bought reference, i mean founders card
>say to them that he needs to wait 11 days to get the card or like 20 to have full reviews

Everyone fell for that 2ghz clock on the press conference... it power trottles alot.

Stop posting you fucking retard.

Not if you ahve a 144Hz monitor.
Which you should.

but it's his brother, so fuck him

Way to fuck your family.

Just give him the shit you jew ass nigger.

>thinking of selling my 670 to my brother for $150
King of Kikes

I don't even know if my computer has a PCI-E 3.0 or not

If you have a 1150 LGA socket you will have a pci E 3 for sure.

2ghz clock on the 480x or 1070?

the 1080, showing a static render in a non game software.
It was 2154.

t. 1080pleb

>no future
Games can barely get 60FPS on max settings on 4k, while if you go the 1440p route with the same computer you hit 100s.

here is a better pic.
was less, so im fucking blind.

My attitude of waiting and waiting has had me coasting on a 750ti, if I wait for a 490 to comeout I might go batshit with Desu Sex Memekind coming out in August.

How about a a jump from 1050 to 1080? I figure I should shoot straight for 1440.

You must really hate your brother.

So upgrading is probably not the wisest choice, but if I'm building a new system and I want to make it last as long as I can before needing to replace shit, is the 1070 a worthwhile investment?
also i'm contemplating sinking money into VR someday so there's a factor

Price to performance is technically amazing, but even that's still a lot for a gpu. What's your overall budget?

>meme squashed resolution
>kiddo

stop posting and go back to l eddit

New PCIe only matters if you're going for like 4 way SLI/Crossfire.

Educate yourself on what PCIe lanes are and how they affect bandwidth of PCIe.

>take advantage of the hype for the new cards so hard that you paid $270 to a richfag for one of his almost new titanX because he was going to buy 2 1080 founders.
I had a gtx760, and even then i regret not buying the 4gb version of evga wich was a few bucks more, ended up with an asus directCUII wich wasnt bad, but 2gb of memory started to show its age, now i have 12, wich i never get to use, but still felt so fucking good man.
But even i know that the bottleneck will come from the gpu clock in the end.
The solution is allways wait, look what happened to the 970 memory meme, or how AMD ended up focusing on console and medium range performance market, now coming back with low prices, but nothing amazing.
For now, the best would be at least to wait for non reference shit so they can push the clock of the card as much as that, but in games, also jewvidya as allways had some optimizations that amd dont, and that new shit to optimize VR.

If you have a 750TI you are not that far to play everything on minimum at something less than 1080, i think you are in the middle, fighting with resolution and details to get the most, i know its shit, but at least you can find a way to keep good FPS, using shit like gamebooster if you feel like.
They do increase from 4 to 20 fps. but most of the times are just 5 more, wich is something.

Cant wait for the 480

>1680x1050
you will notice more the 1440p, more with any good AA.
