>"We've had a long history of success with Activision, and we still have a great relationship with them," Ong said. "But the future of the Spider-Man console games is with Sony and Insomniac. We're delighted about this partnership, and that's something that's going to continue forward. With [regard to] other console partners, stay tuned. There's many more interesting additional things to come. But Activision is in the past, with regards to Spider-Man."
This is kinda....big? I guess it was part of the MCU deal but making one of the biggest comic book heroes a platform mascot is weird,
I had Spiderman 3 for my PS3 and that shit green goblin DLC where I could play as him and crash into buildings with the sixaxis controls.
Mason Ward
was this because the Sony movies were shit?
Christian Johnson
My only memories with a spiderman game was on the PS2, I remeber that game being very good and fun to play. I trust insomniac dearly so I'll keep an eye out for more info
Michael Wright
>insomniac eh. I wish sucker punch were doing it. insomniac is p meh.
Jacob Sanders
With [regard to] other console partners, stay tuned. There's many more interesting additional things to come
I wonder what could this mean, maybe they lend other of their super heroes to other companies like Microsoft or something
Probably that some of the games will be multiplat but Spider-Man won't.
Sebastian Moore
It's probably part of the deal between Disney and Sony for the rights to Spider-Man movies. In return for disney getting spider-man for movies, sony gets the exclusive rights to spider-man in vidya.
Gabriel Miller
Other half.
Andrew Reed
>no more movie tie-ins
Luis Harris
This isn't rocket science.
Sony holds rights to Spider-Man movies. Marvel NEEDS Spider-Man in MCU. They strike a deal: -Marvel can use Spider-Man in MCU freely and get 100% money from merchandising of movie Spider-Man BUT: >exclusive games rights to Spider-Man >all profits from standalone movies go to Sony >Marvel funds movies >Sony has some creative control
It is a skewed deal but Marvel had no choice.
Lucas Wilson
What are you talking about, Sony is producing this. Why would you need a movie to be a tie in to a movie?
Nicholas Scott
yay more console war shit
Liam Brown
I would guess Sony kept the rights to Spiderman games and is taking full advantage of it. Though I still haven't found clear mention if Marvel now owns the full movie rights to Spidey or not, would guess so since they are making the Spiderman movie.
Brandon Adams
>all profits from standalone movies go to Sony >Marvel funds movies
That's bullshit, why the fuck would Marvel be making Homecoming if they wouldn't make any money from it?
Jaxon Garcia
It's a joke user, lighten up :^)
Easton Mitchell
This will probably happen.
I can see Sucker Punch having a go at Spider-Man after Insomniac. These games don't have to be tied so maybe even Spider-Man 2099 or a grittier Superior Spider-Man with Karma system.
Ayden Richardson
Because they will get money from merchandising. Believe it or not Marvel makes bank of toys and clothes, not movies. Movies are mostly a commerical for merch.
Gavin Hill
I think Daredevil would be better suited for Suckerpunch
Brayden Jenkins
then that means the graphics could be very close to the trailer they showed.
lets hope it plays as good as it looks.
Hudson Parker
>This is kinda....big?
No, definitely not. There has been at least a half dozen open world spiderman games. The last few didn't sell very well.
Ayden Powell
Because they get to put Spider-Man in the other movies.
Camden Phillips
that suit ugh
give me classic right from the get go
Owen Perry
Both ASM games were million sellers with the garbage quality they had.
Cooper Anderson
...
Lincoln Fisher
...
Justin Flores
I like it, looks fresh. You will get gorilion suits anyway, let's just hope most of them won't be DLC.
The MCU suit,Symbitome are a given and so is the classic one.
Jackson Brown
I want comic book sillynes This is why Spider-man 2000 still reigns as best while most spider-man games fell flat. it didnt try to make a 2gritty4u Spider-man
Tyler Fisher
Ugh.
Just, like, ugh.
Ayden Long
They make the money on merchandise
Austin Smith
If Rocksteady and Batman is anything to go by, it all comes down to what studio is developing it. Plus how much time they they devote to it.
Activision had short developement cycles and and did not recieve a big budget.
Joseph Flores
Not sure. The trailer hints at Mr. Negative who is kinda one of the most brutal villains in Spideyverse plus this is older Parker.
But Ratchet is full of humour so maybe they will balance it.
Christopher Walker
Marvel gets all merchandising rights which is where the real money is at considering Spider-man toys vastly outsell any other action figure, including Batman by a wide margin.
Juan Ward
Merch sales.
Carter Scott
It wouldn't be Spider-Man if he didn't keep making jokes about everything. Silent Spider-Man is a sign of you've fucked up hard.
Charles Thompson
If Rocksteady and Batman is anything to go by, it all comes down to what studio is developing it. Plus, how much time they devote to it.
Activision had short developement cycles and and did not recieve a big budget.
Nicholas Perez
wonderful news. better Sony than Activision any day of the week. Maybe the quality of the games will improve as a result, hopefully
Ryder Turner
i hate jokes
Julian Reed
Before anyone complains about the suit, remember that Spidey games always get 10+ suits in them. Just cross your fingers they don't make half of them DLC.
>mfw
Jonathan Foster
BUT WHAT ABOUT THE WEB-SLINGING!
There's only been one (two?) with proper web slinging and it was like 15 years ago! You have the right template and the hardware, use it right.
It's 2016!
Blake Torres
Insomniac confirmed Physics based swinging will come back. webbing will also stick to buildings
Luke Harris
>But the future of the Spider-Man console games is with Sony >console games >*also coming to PC :^))))))))))))))))))))))
Hudson Carter
Now that the one guy who cucked us all by patenting the web-swinging physics is dead, we can be saved from this nightmare.
Christopher Martinez
Published and funded by SIE and confirmed to be a fully exclusive title on Dorito Pope's stream, sorry shitposter-kun.
Oliver Martin
NEVER E V E R
Christian Wood
>This is kinda....big? Not really. It's just Spiderman.
Joseph Collins
This is all I need from a spidey vidya. Swinging around the city doing cool shit and going sanic fast was so comfy.
Christian Murphy
Sauce?
Joseph Sullivan
>Get's mad about the game being exclusive >Probably doesn't know this was apart of the deal between Disney and Sony >Proceeds to blame Insomniac and Marvel as if they have a say.
Camden Powell
>No X-Men games ever because Disney are big dirty kikes despite that we just had X-men vs Avengers
Spidey is cool though. Definitely the best announcement at Sony conference
Angel Morales
I want this to be great so bad.
But I just fucking know it'll still be Arkham Combat and "Hold R2 to parkour" shit. Only it'll be polished and with production values this time.
Oh well. I'll still buy it on release even if it's decent, but MAN, no BamHam combat, PLEASE.
Asher Powell
>It's just Spiderman >just Spiderman >Spiderman
Logan Mitchell
What kind of combat would you prefer? Personally I think the Arkham combat would suit Spidey more than Batman, but that's just me.
Julian Martin
>just Spiderman >most popular superhero next to Batman
Robert Gomez
Platinum-developed Silver Samurai game that plays like a combination of Yakuza and MGR when?
Colton Morgan
>What kind of combat would you prefer? Personally I think the Arkham combat would suit Spidey more than Batman, but that's just me.
Something with actual combos, maybe some launchers and air moves.
Wouldn't mind taking some inspiration from stuff like Ninja Gaiden.
Jacob Wood
Please be true
Ryder Walker
EA must be kicking themselves for choosing to side with Microsoft this gen.
Robert Hall
superman, wonderwoman, and wolverine seem bigger.
Spiderman is a comfortable #5
Nicholas Turner
I'd hate if they start tying up first parties with superhero games, it'd damage the games industry like they've done with the movie industry.
Nathaniel Bell
An improvement of Web of Shadows gameplay.
Joseph Scott
>X-men
Never
Spider-Man is actually the most popular super hero. Even more than Batman.
Chase Nelson
>Wonder Woman
user, pls. And if you're talking worldwide appeal, then Spider-Man has both her and Wolverine beat. No other American superhero had a TV show in Japan.
Oliver Cooper
Have you seen the sales between Spiderman toys and every other super hero?
Joseph Sullivan
Fuck Spider-Man. No, I don't own an Xbone or anything. That stupid motherfucker is the reason Evil Dead was inactive in the 2000's. Thanks, Sam.
Juan Thomas
a good swinging and decent fights is all a spiderman game need it can easily be better infamous
Free-roaming web-swinging with good combat mechanics would be great and all, but I don't really wanna swing around the city just to beat up petty thugs. They can't really reasonably take much damage from Peter.
Angel Reed
Is this it?
Are we finally getting GOOD Spiderman games?
Christian Ramirez
...
Jackson Green
Name a superhero with STUPIDER villains than spiderman
Luis Smith
>you have to attack/dodge/combo your enemies via sound Could be pretty interesting gameplay mechanic.
Aaron Nelson
Iron Man
Tyler Murphy
Green Arrow.
Isaac Williams
Flash
Dominic Sanchez
Kek Comic wise/merchant wise batman ties with spider-man, and that's only in The U.S Globally spider-man merch outsells avengers, superman and batman combined.
Jacob Ward
Flash
Adam Harris
who fight the guy with his boomrangs ?
Parker Reyes
How about good enemies? 90% of Spider-Man's enemies are thieves and shit. "Oh no, it's some idiot robbing a jewelry store in the middle of broad fucking daylight! Surely this requires the intervention of a super-powered metahuman who can literally throw cars!" This is the fatal flaw of all superpowered street-level superheroes. Most of the enemies Peter fights would die if he made the slightest mistake and failed to hold back properly. But as a result, most enemies also go down really easily.
Tyler Miller
Captain Boomerang? That's a Flash villain.
Jaxson Phillips
>Boomerang >dumb villain Read superior foes user
Jason Ramirez
>He doesn't like Spidermans villians
They were the only reason I read teenage lad with spider powers stresses about job, school and girls.
Hunter Brown
I give it two months tops b4 it goes multiplat.
Nathaniel Bennett
Well, I wouldn't say he's more popular than Batman. He probably brings in more money than Batman does.
Sebastian Barnes
what
Jaxson Fisher
So is this game going to have like neo-millennium villains like Mr. Negative?
Because then it can go in the fucking garbage.
I actually can't think of anything worthwhile that has been added to the Spider-Man canon in the last two decades.
Henry Hughes
Most of the original Punisher villains that tried to be more comic-y (Jigsaw, Bushwhacker, etc.) were fucking stupid.
Blake Roberts
Shit taste lad, Spider-Man's rogue gallery is one of the strongest
1. Batman's rogue gallery 2. Spidey's 3. Flash's
Ian Lee
The suit looks bad. Being able to replace it doesn't actually fix the fact that it looks bad.
Nathaniel Evans
all good spider man games were on playstation to begin with so I don't see a difference
Isaac Ortiz
Yeah, let's see first if it's a good game or not.
Caleb Nelson
Uh, I think you are a little confused.
Owen Cook
the gauntlet
anti-venom bro stuff
big time
698-700 issues
Brody Morris
>Seem bigger
That's great! But they aren't bigger. You just think they are, for absolutely no reason that you have given.
Jaxson Campbell
Spiderman 2 type gameplay, please, give it to me.
Tyler Hill
The Flash has the most Silver Age enemies in existence. Most other villains get updated to get with the times, but the Flash's rogues?
Captain Boomerang, the Aussie who fights exclusively with boomerangs! Captain Cold, he's a middle-aged man with a freeze gun! Considering his gun's even more advanced than Mr. Freeze's, you'd think he could build himself something a little better than a coat and sunglasses. Weather Wizard, because alliteration was in back then! Mirror Master, seriously, what is up with these names? It's like these guys were literally created just to compliment each other. Get it, 'cause W is M upside-down! The Trickster! He's basically the Joker only dumber and not as popular!
And let's not forget the Flash's most iconic villains: Player 2 Flash, Player 3 Flash, Player 4 Flash, and I'm probably missing some! It's hilarious. Flash's most famous enemies are all literally just recolors of himself.
Justin Hill
The only sucky thing with this is the possibility that Spidey can't be character in Marvel multiplat games, so the road to Marvel vs Capcom 4 is further damaged.
