Because computers are finicky bitches. I have literally spent days of my life troubleshooting problems with my PC, ranging from corrupted drivers to Windows frying my WiFi card. The worst I had with consoles was a fucked up PS3 hard drive that I was able to replace with a cheap faster drive.

Same reason some people still watch television, they lack any sort of drive to step out of their comfort zone even when it would significantly and obviously improve their life.

Windows is finicky and is a pain to troubleshoot. This is intentional as for business use this employs a lot of MSCEs who have to pay Microsoft to maintain their certification, and for gaming it drives sales of the Xbox.

The Xbox proves Microsoft can make a no hassle OS. but they have no inventive to do so because Windows gamers will simply pirate it.

Most people(normies) don't either know or care about those things

I tried to play Fallout 3 on PC. The game crashed upon starting. I had to look up the solution on some forum and modify a .ini file to get the game to run. Why do YOU expect PC gaming to completely eliminate console gaming when there are higher barriers to entry for PC gaming like that?

Here is the ultimate truth of the matter:

Compare that to building a gaming PC, it takes more work. Things can go wrong if you're not careful. You have to make a lot more decisions, and it might cost a bit more, initially.

So there you have it. You can't blame consumers for taking the path of least resistance.

For me it goes beyond just windows. I was troubleshooting software incompatibilities back in DOS, trying to get Sierra games running without the Sound Blaster card shitting itself and crashing the system. PCs have always been complex messes that only the most dedicated will have the patience to fix.

Because most of my weeb games aren't on pc.

I also can't play NHL 17 on PC either.

I don't want to learn about building computers, I just want to put the game in and play it.

PC has 150% the performance of consoles at the same price just with inexpensive GPUs, with more powerful and cheaper already announced. That's not to mention the shitty performance of the 1.6GHz console CPUs.

Protip: Windows has an unlimited free-trial window by resetting the rearm count (deleting a file).

That's not an average experience. 99% of PC gaming is fine just clicking launch.
