Should I buy Nier? Is it good?

Should I buy Nier? Is it good?

Been checking out videos of Nier Automata and now I'm really curious about its predecessor. I remember watching its trailers back in the day and boy was I intrigued.

What exactly am I in for? Critics seem to have disliked it, although user reviews tell a different story.

Help me out here, Sup Forums.

Also, is there dubbed voice acting in it? It's always a turn off for me. I'd rather have English text and the original Japanese va, but I suppose it's not that big of a deal. What did you guys think of it, though?

A chick with a dick

The story is decent enough. The gameplay is incredibly shit.

Fucking Nier's english voice acting is totally fine.

Jap Nier is bishi faggot brother who is in love with his sister.

the gameplay isnt great, but it's not the worst either

Nier can be a bit of a mess, but I loved it.

The combat's average, but the atmosphere and story is unique and memorable.

are the multiple endings hard to get?

Play Drakengard first. It'll give you a deeper understanding into the world that Taro crafted.

except nier is a different world.

No. You get ending A for beating it once, ending B for beating it twice, and endings C and D are unlocked by collecting all of the weapons. That's easy to do as well.
You can just save right before the final boss and then get C and then get D.

>Jap Nier is bishi faggot brother who is in love with his sister.

I love this meme. Wanting to care for your last living survivor equals incest now apparently.

JAPS LOVE INCEST.

HE WANTED TO FUCK HER.

The gameplay is alright. It's varied and accessible enough for what the game's trying to be.

Nier has possibly one of the best localizations/english dubs ever so there's no need to change that.

Nier's worldbuilding, story, and soundtrack make it possibly one of my favorite games of all time. Just get the fuck out of this thread and buy it before you're spoiled. Also, use pic related.

Am I going to need to have played Nier to understand Automata?

Play it
Then read Grimoire Nier after you get all the endings

no
automata happens like thousands of years later

It's one of the games that drove me to purchase a PS3, and it didn't disappoint.

The two are very tenuously connected. I also wouldn't recommend Drakengard to anyone even though I enjoyed it.

Drakengard's quite different. Don't really need to know much about it apart from the consequences of the ending.

Honestly I have a feeling that it will go up in price shortly since the new one was announced. Resellers will try to squeeze as much money as they can out of you because they know you want it before playing the sequel. Go find a cheap copy.
You can use ebay or jjgames.com but try to find it now before it goes way up.

It was the other way around actually, Yonah wanted to fuck him. Brother Nier was too heavily scarred from being a male prostitute to want to fuck anyone.

I want Drakengard 1 and 3 remastered.
1 emulates like shit ans 3 runs like shit on ps3

Yes. Most paid video game bloggers don't have good opinions.
People exaggerate how bad the gameplay is, it's average at worst. The dub is good.

STILL INCEST.

SLANTY EYED WEIRDOS.

No but I imagine there will be a lot of references to the first NieR and Drakengard. Play it if you want to.

Don't be fooled, the game sucks ass and only the lore is worth checking about in the game.

The sequel will literally be a different game all over so you really don't need to.

i share the opinion of this dark skinned sibling

I just read somewhere that there's like, a Japanese voice pack of some sort for Drakengard 3, for those who want English text but not Dubbed VA. I assume this only works for PC versions? Can I somehow do the same thing for console games?

CFW'd PS4, dumbass.

Is it true that Kaine's vulgarity was censored in Nier Replicant? I was thinking of importing it and if that were the case I'd be a bit disappointed about not being able to hear it in Japanese.

The English VA is actually really well done.

The gameplay is fine though. Not very deep but I still found it fun.

There's no PC versions of any of these games. Japanese voice pack for Drakengard 3 is DLC.

*PS3

It has an interesting story.

The gameplay on the other hand is complete garbage.

Just watch the game on youtube.

The gameplay is fine for someone who's only played games with meh combat like the witcher games.

I've played games with amazing and deep combat but that doesn't mean I can't still enjoy something more simple. It's not like I play Nier for the gameplay but I don't get turned off by it either.

It's fine. Cheaper than dirt too, you could walk into any store and find it for $8 at most.

Should I?

Can't you just emulate it?

Be ready for your emotions to be messed with.

>Playing Nier 1 in anticipation for the upcoming Nier Automata
Don't.They are two completely different games.

Where's the fun in that?

this guy

he can't, he's a stupid cancuck hipster

Not him, but if you can't have fun with the actual game, and only need some sort of physical validation to have fun, then you're an idiot.

Neir is a direct sequel to Drakengards 5th endng retard.

Why do you care how someone plays a game? Some people just like to play on original hardware over fiddling with emulators.

Snagged a 10 dollar copy on Amazon yesterday. Haven't even watched any Automata gameplay.

>different world
>the game begins by showing Nier and Yonah as abandoned "survivors" of the WCS in a modern city

don't get so defensive buddy eh

Nier 1 would really fuck all the excitement I have for Automata right out. It's a bad fucking game. Poor executed. Only weirdos like yourself you enjoy it.

>recommending drakengard to anyone ever

I actually enjoyed drakengard but I would never recommend that tedious piece of shit to even my worst enemy

I burst into tears over that boss on the second playthrough.

Just know that it looks GOOD.

You have mental issues. Sasuga, weeb.

Not him, I just also like to play games on original hardware and got triggered a bit.

if nier 1 "fucks all the excitement" you have for automata then you are the weirdo

>fucking nier's english voice acting is totally fine
I feel like english VA is just inherently, methodologically bad. They always speaking with weird, cartoony voices with too much inflection, too much shaky voice in dramatic scenes, too much I"M ACTING all over the place, it never seems sincere. It also runs the risk of just showing the wrong sort of tone for what the original language intended, Drakengard 3 and The Witcher 1 suffers badly from this.
Every time I hear "the english VA is actually good" I get disappointed.

interesting. how do you treat remastered editions of games?

Drakengard was supposed to be tedious

I just got ending D yesterday and I can already tell I'm going to want to play this game again some time.

Also thread theme, but spoilered because it's a spoiler.

Dude. It's a bad game. What part of that do you not understand.

Bad game - bad experience.

Will be playing it soon and IMO the best media seem to inspire such a wide range of reactions like this, some people loving it and some outright hating it means its unique at least. Mainly thinking of how classic films aren't for everyone.

Ebin

I've never really put much thought into that, actually. Those are more like ports in my mind. Just like I'd generally rather play a PC version of something, as long as it doesn't have any new issues I'd rather play a remastered version. If there were an officially released version of Drakengard on PS3/4 I'd play that over the PS2 version. If it ended up like a Silent Hill HD where they apparently fucked up a lot of stuff I'd still play the original though.

Whenever I see that flower I just wanna pull it out.

For Drakengard 3 at least the Japanese VA is on PSN. It may not be free, dunno, I got free codes with my preorders.

I fucking love Drakengard and its dissonant music.

Why not. It's CAD and has free shipping

Sounds like you're just an autistic weeb.

Plenty of games have great and sincere English voice acting. Even Japanese ones. See: Tales of Symphonia, the first Kingdom Hearts, Kid Icarus Uprising, and fucking Nier.

Maybe consider playing some games that don't reuse the same 5 voices and aren't produced by the "Generic Hollywood Game Voiceover Association", aka all AAA-games.

Not every JRPG is persona

I hate 90% of dubs and Nier's dub is amazing.

drakengard-nier universe has insanely fast growing complexity in lore relative to games released, will we be able to keep track one or two games down the line? Will yoko?
I'm directly referring to nier in this case. There are a lot of things that take me out of the game about the dub.
It's not something unique to japan, I think america/britains dub culture SPECIFICALLY is flawed. I don't think niers voice acting is sincere at all, I think Emil in particular has fake as fuck moments. Nier and Weiss, who in my opinion have the best VAs, are also clearly not real voices.

I feel like Nier's English VA is pretty good for the most part, but I'd be lying if I said it wasn't cringe-inducing at times.
