What games can fill the void that the Souls games left?

What games can fill the void that the Souls games left?
I don't care if they're old as long as they feel similar.
Doesn't matter of full-blown rpg or action-adventure.

Ninja Gaiden series

King's Field and Shadow Tower if you can get used to the extremely slow controls.

You're talking about the combat or the exploration? There really is no game which combines both in a way the Souls games do.

Salt and sanctuary, not even kidding

Also, Legend Of Mana on PS has a best world you can explore. Thus the battle mechanics are pretty simple, it's just a beat`em up, and thematically it's a weeb game in anime style, the world and the characters in it, they're just great.
You start with an empty world, and you kill bosses and it gives you artefacts which you can turn into new location. The more locations you created, the more convoluted they become, and characters from one location can travel to others and this can result in a new quest and such. Also the game has one of the best soundtracks out there.
I know it's not like Souls game at all, but as a fan of souls games I can assure you that Legend Of Mana is really great.

Severance: Blade Of Darknes has a similar battle system, but the level design is not that great and you can't revisit old locations to find a new way - you just beat the level and that's it.
Played the game before souls and now I can't play it, honestly.

Exploration, atmosphere, style ...

This is not a retarded "souls-like" thread. Go away.

Rune is very similar to Severance.
I think Die by the Sword is actually better than those but the learning curve is a bit high since the controls are awkward.

Personally DS felt like the Diablo 3 I hoped for but never got.
Diablo 1 is quite similar to DS with the corpse recovery, atmosphere, relatively free character progression and the NG+ element.

>Go away.
Oh, ok. It's not like I posted most of the games in this thread. Enjoy your thread without retards, user, bye!

>Severance
It''s pure shit

Op try: Ninja Gaiden, Onimusha, Dragon's Dogma, Dead Island 1 (turn on the analog combat on), Guild Wars 2 and maybe, but just maybe Neverwinter nights

...

The only thing in here thats shit is your post m8.

Dragons Dogma?
Guild Wars 2?
Fucking Dead Island?
Seriously?

Which is better. Dark Souls 3 or Witcher 3?

Nier

Depends what you want out of the game.

Dark Souls 3 is almost exclusively skill-based combat with subdued storytelling.

Witcher is an adventure game with a clear focus on telling a story where the combat was pretty much an afterthought.

Dragon's Dogma is a good suggestion, so go fuck yourself. The emphasis is more on combat and the world is much more generic than any of the souls, but it's probably the closest you'll get to a souls game.

Guild Wars 2 is another good one. It's an MMO so shitty combat is a given, but it's more bearable than all the WoW clones. The exploration is top notch for an mmo, with plenty of unique locations and pretty cool platforming sequences. The lack of a sub fee is nice too.

>what's better apples or oranges?

Try some older stuff.
Try genres you haven't played before.

Try something like divinity: original sin or Arx Fatalis. Hell, maybe even Rune. They're not exactly the same, but they are pretty interesting. There's also some pretty good indie shit like hyper light drifter, nuclear throne, la mulana and bastard bonds.

Any Metroid or Metroidish Castlevania for the adventure feel

Dragon's Dogma for the medieval rpg combat feel

if you want a game that controls well pick ds3

It's not in any way.

Dragons Dogma combat is in no way skill-based, the gimmicks are not though trough, the world makes no sense, the story is all over the place, difficulty is non-existant due to easily farmable health-recovery and continues which have absolutely no penalty for using them.

Kings field you wanker, how about checking froms other titles before you make a thread
if you want a game that isn't absolute horseshit pick witcher, and that's coming from somebody who think that the witcher games aren't THAT good

I've played all King's Fields and DS3 is good.
No interest in Witcher.
Thanks for your shitpost, kid.

>DS3 is good

yeah? and what is good about it?
the same linear level design dark souls 2 but with some dead ends to mask it?
the fact that you can finish builds only after you're almost done with the game? the fact that the game has an ugly grey and brown filter all over it? the fact that they brought back the instant 180 turns from dks2? the fact that music is garbage compared to bloodborne or dks? the fact that half of the game is "remember dks1?" the fact that the areas are almost emptier than des? the fact that it looks the same as dks2 graphically but has some particle effects to mask it?

the game is hot garbage no matter how you look at it

I didn't say the game is a masterpiece, I said it's good.
It's the best they could've possible done for a commissioned game they didn't want to make.
It's fanservice because that's what Bandai Namco wanted and the fans cried for.

Its still a decent game and most complaints are rather nitpicky.
You need to grow up and learn that most things aren't "utter shit" or "omg masterpiece" with nothing inbetween.

and you need to adapt to the way scoring of games works, "old-timer", this ain't music nor movies
good game means it's great, should be 6-10/10
mediocre game means the game is shit, it shouldn't be like that, but it is - 4-6/10
utter shit means it's bad or horrible, there's no way to rate an absolute thrash game at the moment with how the scoring works, anything under 8 anywhere is mediocre, anything above is possibly good

catpcha: 2142

Learn to form your own opinion instead of parroting what random people say.
The scoring system means absolutely nothing.
Not for games, not for movies, not for music.

Pff severance is so incredibly shit sometimes I wonder why hipster faggots like you are even trying. Go to reddit to get praised for shitty taste or sth, faghole.

Why is it shit?

I was in love with the DMC1 atmosphere the first time I played it.

Go play it. Everything about it is pure solid shit even for that time it cam out (although the lightning was highly praised.). The combat system is incredibly clunky, the stories are nonexistent (?), map design is really shitty, like I never played a game with such basic mapdesign, visuals are an epitome of shit, it basicly has no redeeming qualities I am highly surprised that there are people mentioning it.
