seriously, it is a really good JRPG.

Play it on Hard. The combat system is pretty great, and if you like lore then there's alot of side material in the game you can read. Hunker down, get comfy, and remember that Alisa is in fact best girl

even on normal I had to try some battles several times.
Cool thing is how tightly balanced the game is, so if you ever encounter something that is difficult, all it takes is a change in strategy/tactics, instead of grinding.

Definitely, alot of the early game bosses will kick your ass over and over unless you take advantage of the position system, otherwise they wipe you immediately.

I'm about to play pic related for the first time. I'd live to play trails of cold steel, but I only have a PC. Is this one good?

Cozy up and enjoy the athmosphere. Whenever possible use gunblade girl to stun enemies from a distance.

Starts out slowly, but its a great game and its sequel is even better.

The story is, but it's slow and gameplay isn't much either. If you're not ADHD you'll be fine.

Trails in the Sky is amazing. Word of advice, though: Don't try to rush it. Sit back, put some headphones on, relax, and enjoy the game as it is. You'll get the most out of it for sure that way.

No overt romance, except perhaps Alisa, but there is some vague implied stuff with the other girls if you focus on them. Mostly this game isn't about that stuff, though. Just build up Laura's link level with Rean, spend tickets with her at the festival near the end, and dance with her at the end of the festival. Then you get a special scene with her at the end of the game. It's not romance, but it's the best you're gonna get

You can ask the girl you like to the dance, and have a cute scene. Still the game pushes the worst girl the most, so try to ignore her.

So does it seriously bother anyone that rean isn't voiced for a lot of the scenes everyone else is voiced in?

It does bother me. XSEED wanted to do fully-voiced Rean but Falcom put a stop to it.

Rean is definitely designed to be clearly more of a self-insert than past protagonists. They probably feel like having him voiced in school scenes detaches the player from the characters who you're supposed to be forming bonds with.

If they feel as strongly about it as suggested then its an intentional design decision and should be left Falcom's vision.

If I had to guess, doing fully-voiced Rean would've required Falcom to give the source code to XSEED and they might have not been comfortable with that.

A cool JRPG with a nice battlesystem. No random encounters is a plus.
Generic characters during the first hours, then the story develops and characters become good

Nice graphix for the Vita in towns and interiors, but exteriors when not in towns are lacking. Not deal breaking though.
