Do I need to worry about Rome?

Do I need to worry about Rome?
Also, I also now like the graphics of Civ VI a little bit, yknow? It has a Civ IV feeling to it.

Yes. Take Neapolis then Cumae Caesar is one of the more aggressive neighbors in Civ

Why not go for Rome and have him suffer unhappiness with those shit cities

if those 3 are your only units prepare for trouble because rome is about to hit legions which it WILL spam

Nope I got a warrior scouting looking for atolls (lel), and a comp arch at the cap

The only issue the AI will ever have with happiness is city flipping from ideological pressure and even that is super rare. Assuming those peach things are a luxury, both of those cities are fine especially if he buys out those olives.

>Why not go for Rome and have him suffer unhappiness with those shit cities
this

leave him with the crap cities while you pillage the advanced towns full of wonders

Because AI basically cheats and is immune to unhappiness.

check around antium quckly how much iron they have access to, that's the limit on the amount of legions they can shit out
but be aware that as little as 3 legions can and will defeat your entire army as it is even if they entrench around a city

what difficulty are you playing on?

>closest neighbor has more cities than you have military units
you're fucked

Just used a GE'd to build terracotta army.

terracotta'ing a warrior, scout, spearman and comp bow isn't worth it, not at this stage

If you got that GE from liberty, you already fucked up by only having two cities. Then you gone fucked up again by using it on Terracotta Army. Why must you fuck up everything you try?

>turn 91 on normal
>2 cities
dun goofed in later game sonny
gotta have 3 by that time

Because I don't have any choice, and I'm just having fun with the japanese man. Korea is up top spamming cities too.

why is liberty so shit bros

liberty is not shit, but is not a good opener, which is historically accurate.

global happiness 100 shits
you're having fun wrong and your parents hate you

That free worker though.

okay your last hope: what difficult are you playing on?
I've run into quite a few situations where liberty was the better choice, usually when competing with the AI over prime real-estate

Taking both Traditionalism and Liberty feels so wrong tho.

worker is irrelevant, if you need one that badly just steal one from a city state
free settler and production boost are the real stars of the tree, free great person at just the right time has its uses as well, early academies are always extremely powerful (looking at you babylon) and getting the right wonder also helps

Liberty supports an aggresive wide playstyle, so obviously its shit to you because you have never been next to ceasar, shaka, and attila on an immortal continent map.

imagine as you later reform and give up traditionalism, like rome
>pre republic etruscan rome is small
>post-etruscan republic rome.expands rapidly and is fuck-huge

lmfao get with the times OP!

HoI4 is way better than this turn based garbage

>pick Traditionalism
>win without breaking a sweat
>pick Liberty
>fuck up my development in order to pump out settlers, fail to get any wonder, all cities have tiny borders, struggle all game with happiness and then lose anyway

enjoy not having an ideology

I like how nobody even bothers considering honor

because you are doing it wrong
sometimes you gotta rush maths and play liberty smartly, and most importantly, NOT AS AN OPENER
liberty is a very hard to play opener and is outclassed by tradition (reinforced garrison, free culture buildings, HANGING GARDENS, and tons of hapiness, free aqueducts)
if you play your cards right, you can get around 40 population in atomic

>you can get around 40 population in atomic
Lol just pick Commerce.

Because the southern cities can still produce soldiers
And
Rome probably has an army around the capital. It is too far which means extra turns to the enemy to produce more soldiers
I'd be very surprised if Caesar isn't already queuing up soldiers. He has to strike now.

on higher difficulty levels hanging garders simply isn't happening unless you're egypt or have a god tier start already

germany honor no city challenge though
honor is a very great one if you picked a liberty opener and need hapiness in cities and troops rolling out fastly, combined with Temple of Artemis and Statue of Zeus, you can win at Medieval, but its risky

don't forget the massive lategame unhappiness from having lots of semi-large cities and ideological pressure because you have no ability to output culture or tourism

and the massive gpt issues

and the slower social policies/research

fuck what even are the benefits of liberty? religion maybe?

>those poor fucks who open with Piety

I usually pick Patronage as a 2nd one, and focus on securing maritime cs's. When as Siam, i RUSH patronage and do a mix of liberty/tradition to force 3 free universities, you can get around 100 beakers in early medieval.

because you fucking picked freedom
ofc you dont pick freedom with liberty you go communism with liberty
Egypt is god-tier and ai doesn't like Tradition, i saw more "Enlightened and Consul" more than i saw "Lord-Lady" at emperor and above.

I'd personally rather go for a tradition/liberty opener, pick up a few patronage/commerce/exploration ideas then go full on rationalism

King

i'm running lots of specialists so i thought the policies + statue of liberty would be good for that, also no one else had picked freedom while order had 2 people already so no free policies

patronage is not a nice second unless you are italian israel or ramalamakamkahmdingdong, but Forbidden Palace can secure an early hostship if you couldnt find everyone.

hope you'll be okay lategame because the cities you have seem to all be kinda starved for production
also did the romans have legions or not? if not you may have lucked out a bit
still congrats and try not to let the korean death robots hurt you to bad

it sucks for fully dedicating yourself to but I usually don't dedicate myself to the medieval policy tree, just pick up a few policies that are useful then move on

Never insta-annex cities you fucking newb.

but user these two conflict, you dont run specialists with a 16 pop capital.
you are basically fucked, spam ranged units and just go for the gold. your enemies seem to be underadvanced, and you have Great War Infantry(legions but whatever) im also surprised that you didnt pick autocracy, germany's bread and butter.

1 pop city, its not a big deal and its even got an okay resource so that's not to bad
heck its even right next to a river

patronage is classical iirc. and finishing it is very rewarding with Sweden
>get great generals from cs
>send the great generals back
>get generals with Hakkapellitas
>send them back
>sweden is allied with monaco 360/60

why go for enhanced panzers when instead you could be going for x-com infantry with the order tree

There is literally no point annexing a city immediately no matter how good or bad it is, you should always wait for the resistance period to finish.

Genghis Khan has declared war on Monaco
Genghis Khan has annexed Monaco

oh and, if you arent going to switch (and cannot), pick Arsenal Of Democracy and just unleash the wrath of Bundeswehr upon them

>AI
>suffer unhappiness

fully aware of that, just saying given its a 1 pop city he's not going to suffer to long for his mistake
if he did it to a 10 pop capitol he'd be fucked though

genghis isnt relevant by the time i have hakkapellitas and caroleans
genghis becomes a literally who when his keshiks become obsolete.

just saying no matter how high your popularity with a city state someone can conquer it or worse flip allegiance with a spy

Not OP, but I fucking love you guys. I always learn something new from these threads.

Yep he's right I'm an idiot
Rome just traded away Cumae

That's pretty surprising considering how stupidly shallow Civilization games are.

Augustus and Shaka can get fucked pretty hard in the mid-game even on deity because they conquer too much.

For some reason ginormous cunts like Hiawatha and Catherine never have any issue though.

But I've autismed for years to come up with optimal strats. And I still have to struggle because Deity AI never lets up.

I easily ignore many simple things and I started playing Civ5 not long ago.

>want to play Civ again
>remember that I can't into combat for my life

Like, most of the fun is playing the Dominater Civs, but I just can't do shit.

Jesus. Just take the fucking compliment you asshole.

>wat.jpg
Are you the guy who used to post EU3 screenshots years ago?

sometimes I want to play a civ game and then I watch a "tutorial" video on youtube for the first hour of the game and I'm like fuuuuuck that.

on the other hand though, Shaka impi-rushing you is terrifying no matter how well you're doing

Just play the fucking tutorial, I can't think of a less complex turn-based strategy series

Caesar is an asshole, kill him before he decides to kill you.

eh I'd say if the AI were capable of fully utilizing everything Civ V would be more complicated than Civ IV
this is especially obvious if you get a multiplayer game going

Pretty sure 5 guides you the whole way through your first palythough, giving you every hint possible

It's not terribly complicated. I don't know what videos you're watching, but chances are pretty high they're created by some sperg who is making it seem a lot deeper than it is to make himself feel smart. The game is simple enough that you can make a 1:1 boardgame out of it if you like math.

I don't give a shit what you think about the AI or Civ V vs IV
The guy said he can't get into any Civ game

what's the best balance mod for singleplayer

tired of building 3-4 cities every game then clicking end turn until i win

Yeah, early warfare is painful. Rush Artillery for the best experience, pick someone like Sweden with excellent UUs popping up alongside it and go destroy everyone's shit.

it has a really low skill floor, you don't really need to know what you're doing until like king difficulty

Stop playing Settler. In Civ5,

Emperor = Easy
Immortal = Normal
Deity = Hard

>most of the fun is playing the Dominater Civs

NOTHING is more fun like smooth sailing and then suddenly slowly seeing one Civ gain more and more ground, making you have to scrounge up your resources to build and army while also getting a Scientific/Culture Victory.

No I'm gonna let him suffer just like I made Attilla suffer for GETTING MY CAPITAL

Ha.

The only reason it is "hard" is because the AI cheats like a motherfucker. Instant wonders, free soldiers and no penalties whatsoever no matter what terrain.

Fuck that.

with tradition every difficulty is settler difficulty

early warfare is okay once you realize the power of iron chariots

How is the combat in Civ 5? I tried 4 several times but ragequit whenever my tanks lost against archers

Players cheat too, because they do lots of things an AI can't.

Giving the AI advantages makes the game challenging, because you have to use your superior wits to outsmart the AI's brute strength.

5 million years ago, i bought CivV at launch, played one or two games up to maybe medieval period, then stopped playing totally
after all this time of keeping that shit shelved will the game be nice with all the expansions, patches etc. in place?

Agree. That's why I no longer go with tradition either alone or with friends.

Coding actually good AI would have been far too hard so that's the only way to make the game anything remotely challenging.

That reasoning works in a wargame, but not in a game that barely allows for any strategy in the first place

vanilla civ V is not a particularly great game
however with all expansion packs its a damn fun one, most of the flaws are fixed

what's so good about tradition

But the AI is quite good. They can detect if your strategy means you are going to be a problem in the future and actively try to hinder you if so.

That's why people are like "WTF how come this AI started to hate me all of a sudden shit game shit AI"

>t. Someone who never played any of the actual difficulties

Aristocracy alone is quite stupid. It scales very well into late game.

Hope you realize that's just part of the many cheating devices given to the AI.

it's easy, reliable, strong, has lots of immediate benefits which also last the whole game

the game is already a bit skewered towards favouring smaller, more focused empires but tradition makes it stupidly good

that sort of thing doesn't happen anymore

it can be a bit of a tedious traffic jam desu but when it works it's pretty satisfying

Free gold, free food, free happiness, free borders and lets you build one of the best wonders in the game.

>Getting the Hanging Gardens

I bet you build the great library too you fucking casual Settler

But till late game you suffer major unhappiness if you expand too much.

Unplayable in vanilla, good in the DLC even if there's a somewhat unfair bias towards ranged units.

>Ramkhamhaeng
>Food, Culture and Faith from friendly City-States increased by 50%
>end up owning all city states because permanent golden age

And why would you? Four cities is more than enough unless you're playing on Large/Huge.

>Large/Huge.
What's the recommended number for Large/Huge?
