Save game

>Save game
>Go to exit
>Exit game? Any unsaved progress will be lost.
> Yes or No
>No
>Save game again.

>save game
>pause
>"did i save?"
>save game
>pause
>"did i save?"
>save game
>pause
>"did i save?"
>save game
>pause

...

I always do this
I think I'm stupid

>Any unsaved progress will be lost
>the game does not have an explicit save mechanism, only autosaves

i don't follow this one, could you explain further

This is the worst offender

>Mega Man X7
>Do you want to save?
>Yes
>Are you sure?
>Yes
>Going to the save screen
>LOADING
>Choose your memory card slot
>Are you sure?
>Yes
>Save in slot 1?
>Yes
>SAVING
>Return to Stage Select?
>Yes
>Are you sure?

>Speeding through menus and confirmations
>The cursor is always on Yes
>Tap through them at lightspeed
>Last confirmation starts on No
>Get stuck in a cycle for 3 minutes

Fuck this shit

>Exit game? Any unsaved progress will be lost
>Yes
>Saving progress...

Why

>save game
>alt+f4
Why do so many people go back to the main menu just to exit shit, stop this at once.

That's how you get your computer to explode.

>Exit game
>Game crashes
>All your save data is gone

I know there's something in pokemon that does this, I think when you learn a move or something mashing either A or B will get you caught in an endless loop, it's fucking obnoxious.

You need to be at least 18 to post here.

>Save game
>Go to exit
>Exit game? Any unsaved progress will be lost.
> Yes or No
>Yes
>Now saving, please wait.

you're trying too hard to fit in

Paranoia from losing save progress this way. Some games fucking HATE when you alt-F4 quit.

The worst part about that one is that not only does it default to no, it asks you on shit that there's no risk to doing. Are you SURE you wanna go to stage select?! Are you SURE that you want to go to the file save screen!? Are you SUUUUUURE that you want to play this stage?!

Says the person who hasn't encountered a game without built-in autosave and no checkpoint/save point mechanics.

Try r/games

why do people think this is a good idea, manual saves should be fucking mandatory unless it's saving all the time like an mmo

I assume it's a lot easier to code.

>Game autosaves at start of new level
>I manually save anyways

I remember I got X7 at a time where my mom wanted to push time limits on me because god forbid I got a B+ on a test, so having to wade through all that bullshit just to save was a nightmare.

Game sucked super ass, too. Was the first time I realized a Mega Man game could be bad.

P-post your other himawari reaction, please.

I used to autistically quicksave when I was kid. I'd press it several times in a row just to be sure. Kek.

>Rogue Squadron
>go to delete profile
>Are you sure?
>Yes
>Are you really sure?

save scummers

the rest are from secret flowers

>game autosaves
>but the autosave locations are so sporadic that you're better off just manual saving after every little thing so you don't lose progress

>save game
>go to quit game
>any unsaved progress will be lost. Continue?
>cancel
>save game
>go to quit
>any unsaved progress will be lost. Continue?
>yes
>would you like to save your game?
>save
>finally back at main menu

DO YOU WANT TO HEAR MY STORY AGAIN, NESS

>Escort Quest
>NPC dies
>Quest Failed
>Autosaving...

>Game over on an arcade style game.
>Spam the confirm button to hit Continue as soon as it appears.
>The game puts Quit as it's default option.
>tfw you realize you fucked up.

Fucking Owl

Programmer here. Manual save is just a matter of adding an additional UI screen or two and then going through your save routine once the user picks yes (or chooses a memory card and picks yes on a console). Auto save means you don't necessarily have to make a small UI change, but you have to make it happen at times that won't fuck with people, but are frequent enough that if they make any significant progress, they keep it. If saving takes too long (cough, PS2), then you gotta be careful not to use them too often. Most importantly, you don't want to autosave in the middle of action because it can cause minor framedrops for a second or whatever.

Beyond that it's 99% dependent on the genre. If you're doing something like Skyrim or a classic single player FPS where accidentally saving at a bad time can permanently fuck the user's game, leave it at manual with quicksave/load buttons. If you're doing something like Mario or even Mega Man, there's no reason not to have autosave, because it's only relevant to save between levels anyway, and there's nothing you can really do to screw up your save file.

Oh my god faggot you're not even arguing from a technical stand point.
Who cares if some shitter saves while falling off a cliff.? Nobody with a brain.

desu if there's something that's really THAT important to hear, they should make it more like "if you want to hear this again later, go to the help menu and click this button".

That way, you don't end up hearing the whole thing again ever if you don't want to, but if you go away from a game for a long time and need a refresher, the info's still there.

Holy damn dude, lay off the crack for two seconds. I said maybe the least offensive thing in the world and you blew a gasket. Besides, autosave actually can do that you know.

>Playing through a difficult section
>Saving every time you make progress
>Have to reload every time you die
>Get into the habit of just loading your previous save when it looks like you're about to die to save time
>Get into a situation where you're clearly fucked
>"Oh, better reload my game"
>Just mash 'yes' to get through it faster
> Now saving game...
>Oh
>Oh FUCK

I ended up fucking myself over in Jade Empire like that. Golem enemies can only be defeated using weapons. Weapons use up focus. I tried out the musket since I just got it and it used up all my focus, meaning I was now stuck fighting enemies I literally couldn't hurt.

Had to start all over again, and I was like 4/5ths through the game.

>dragons dogma
>do quest line to get gold idol
>gold idol is needed to buy high level end game gear
>quests involve stalking a guy and later escorting a little girl around town
>if you so much as touch npc by accident, the quest is an automatic failure
>game autosaves the second you fail so you cant just reload last save
>you have to do all the quests perfectly if you fail even one the entire quest line is a failure
>if you fail you are forever locked out of getting the gold idol so you have to wait till NG+ or start a brand new file
>did i mention all you have to do to fail is touch the npc's model, and then it autosaves the very moment you fail
>worst yet is the npc do erratic movements and jukes and sudden stops and will suddenly jump back at you to trick you into touching them.

>reach important point in story
>make a hard save
>make a backup save
>go to the folder and make a copy of the save and put it in a .zip file
>burn a 3rd save on a cd

there is a way to restart that quest without hurting your save, i forget what it is though.

Something like the world save is seperate from the quest save, so you can go back to the world save.

>memeing this hard

>he's never lost 500 hours of his favorite game
what's its name Sup Forums

Oblivion.

>>Save game
>>Go to exit
>>Exit game? Any unsaved progress will be lost.
>> Yes or No
>>Yes
>>It saves anyway

>pass point of no return
>game autosaves

>reach path in cave
>check one path
>double back to check other path in case something there
>autosave and cave rocks fall and block way

It happened to me in Crysis 1 in a point where Bishop(?) just walks forward all the times gives shit about enemies around him. The game saved literally 10s before he died. I didn't have a save near that point.

>save game
>"oh hey, I just saved the game, maybe I should save"

>Try to save game
>"Can't save in battle"
>There are no enemies by me though
>...Right?

>path splits
>save game
>choose one path
>it splits again
>save as backup
>splits yet again
>save as backup2

>You have so many fucking save slots to cover every single choice in the game you can't even remember which slot is for what
>Sometimes you load up a couple of saves and you can't even tell what the difference is

I lost a 100 hour save in Ninja Gaiden 2 while I was halfway through Master Ninja

I worked by way through the game again to the point I was but couldn't give enough of a shit to continue anymore

Witcher 2

Both my saves got fucked with about 45 in one and 30 hrs on the other

I will literally never play that game ever again

>Accidentally load old save
>Save over latest file
>A full days progress gone

>I'll never get my old Blue Dragon save back

It hurts.

>save
>game has a save and quit option
>choose that even though you just saved to be safe

used to do this all the time after experiencing the whole "I thought I saved and didn't, and then I powered the machine off" thing (probably happened with Pokemon Yellow, was one of the few games I'd played that even had saving at that point -- Sonic 3 was the other, and that autosaved)

although I never saved more than thrice in a row

>About to start cutscene with choices
>"Hmm did I save beforehand? Eh I'm sure I did"
>Last save: Eons ago

> can't tell what the difference is

Until it matters 10 hours later.

>Gotten so used to constant autosaves in modern games
>Play a game only a few years old
>Game even says is has autosave mechanic, see the symbol all the time
>Die in the game, figure I'll just start back from a few moments ago
>NOPE, autosaves only count at inns, other than that you have to use manual saves
>Happens to me like 5 times
>Now manual save every few minutes

Fuggen video gaems man

>menu list
>cursor doesnt circle back to the top when it reaches the bottom

>nuclear throne
>playing around with the options
>see a "clear save" option
> "in 3"
>the fuck does that mean
>click it again
>"in 2"
>thought it said ln 3 and ln 2, not idea what the fuck is going on
>"in 1"
>suddenly screen starts loading
>OHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCKOHFUCK
God dam I felt stupid.
Good thing I had another save file on a different computer that I just copied it to, so I didn't lose much.

>not loading from a checkpoint save

>Finish off the Snowpeak boss in Twilight Princess
>pick up the heart container
>blackout
>turn the game back on
>last save: Arbiter's Grounds

I lost a 200 hour+ Kid Icarus Uprising save

Saving at checkpoints usually lost world state, only player's stats are saved. It's easier to make than saving and restoring everything.
And you make it lazy way, you will get huge save files and insanely long loading time.

>save game

>alt + f4

Truly the worst. Also
>Grid-type list
>Reaching the end of one row doesn't bring you to the start of the next row

>Save game
>Save is complete
>Shut off game
>restart game
>100hr save is gone because the game still writes data after it says its done

This is why I like games that tell me when I last saved.
Or those that prompt me to save when I quit.

Save & Quit
Quit

Dungeon Siege 2. I believe I was in the middle of 3rd act when my hdd died. Never finished it ever since.

I was using my DualShock2 one-handed and deleted my ZOE2 complete save.

I came angry.

>press start
>AUTOSAVING
>take 10 steps ingame
>AUTOSAVING
>change settings in pause menu
>AUTOSAVING
>quit
>AUTOSAVING
>quit to title screen
>AUTOSAVING

>Quit game
>"Are you sure you want to quit?" Yes/No
>Highlight Yes
>"All unsaved progress will be saved."
Borderlands 2 ain't that bad

FUCKING BASTIAN

>scrolling to the bottom of a menu doesn't take you back to the top
Why is this still a thing? Come on, it's Current Year already.

What happened to Froge

> save loaded.
>(x) Confirm

Literally why? I left the room to make myself busy. Why does there need to be a confirmation between the save loading and the actual game loading ?

>leave room while save is loading
>game starts automatically
>get killed
>come back to the room
>have to reload again

> Dark souls crashes, have to restart
> mfw it bitches at me next time for not quitting properly

350 hours on MH4U. I was pretty much done completely anyway, but now I can't fuck around with other weapons for fun.

>Tap f5 twice for quick save for good measure
>save anyway before exiting game
>Quicksave flies do not get overwritten
>hogs your HDD

FarCry2

I do this in every Bethesda game, I save before I go inside a cave/dungeon, save at the start inside it, and save once I get at the end of it.

Todd, make your games no crash so much.

Someone grabbed her froggies.

350 hours of Lost Odyssey, gone.

>want to save scum
>pause
>I'm too fast and press load instead of save
>do not notice
>'all progress will be lost'
>yeah yeah whatever
>WAIT
>back 1 hour of game
