Man, this series is one of my all time favorites.
I remember the excitement I had leading up to Hexen II and even Heretic II, used to play on Hexenworld servers all the time back in the day. But nothing compares to the original Hexen.

The overall setting feels like a proper dark fantasy, shame that we don't get something similar now, and for FPS characters they've got probably one of the most bitchin' names one could imagine.
Both Hexen and Heretic really got it right, everything turning into blood mush and puddles as you crump them is satisfying as fuck.

It's kind of more like a dungeon explorer then the twitcher shooters the company was known for. The limited weapon selection encourages co-op but if you solo it's kind of frustrating. Lots of obscure hub interaction and backtracking, particularly early on. Centaurs are a shit enemy to have so many before you can regularly break them.
But it's an interesting experience to me.
