How do I get good?

How do I get good?

you can't. It's literally a 50/50 parry guessing game

When it comes to fighting games, nothing is better than finding someone better than you and learning from them. Honestly I think this type of learning is the most worthwhile when compared to other competitive genres.

The person has to play the game at a high level though. You can't just learn from someone who's barely better than you when you're a complete shitter. You have to play with someone who actually understands the game you're playing or fighting games in general.

When you keep playing with this person and learning from them, you'll get better much faster. Someone you can actually play offline with is way more preferred than an online partner.

Yo damn

I don't really know anyone who plays 3S. My best option is Fightcade, but I'm completely new to the whole thing, so I know jack shit and I'd doubt anyone on there would want to play me.

Just try to friend request people online that are good and try playing with them.

If there's a offline scene in your area, there might be people that play 3S that could be good.

Doubt it. I know there's an arcade hall in town with a 3S cabinet. I've been there with a friend, but there aren't really serious players going there I think. Besides, it's a bit of a pain having to get my ass there only to wait around for someone maybe to play me.

You might have to drive a little ways to find some kind of regional scene. I used to drive out of state when I played fighting games competitively to meet up with players from a bunch of different states.

Either that or you just keep learning through trial and error, practice mode, and playing online.

Pick a main, stick with them, take your lumps. You're gonna lose a lot, especially if you main a low tier like Hugo.

You'll get a lot out of playing your worst MUs on purpose- lots of losing, but you can see where your real weaknesses are. You might even try fooling around with your worst characters to play against to see your main in a different light.

There's plenty of good videos out there of top 3S players, but focus on your pokes and parry game before you try to do fancy shit.

I'm a Hugo main, there were tons of growing pains, and Urien is still a nightmare MU for me, but it makes winning that much more satisfying.

Should I get a previous version of 3 just for the parry minigame?

do a parry input before you do any attack and after you do any attack for starters

also, find a better game to play, the only street fighter games worse than this are alpha 3 and sfv

Learn your characters basic gameplan. Learn the basic mechanics of 3s. Throws are really really strong in 3s. IMO tiers don't really matter at low level and mid level play, but I think its good to start with a character like ken.

Watch high level matches, see how good players play and try to emulate that. The Shend on youtube has a lot of japanese third strike play, although not all of it is high level I think.

Most important have fun.

Urien is a nightmare no matter what, I think.

He's tough, but playing a good one is like a puzzle, except one bad move can really fuck Hugo up. Two and it's over if he has Aegis.

Yun, Chun, Ken are also tough Hugo MUs, but not nearly as difficult for me as Urien.

I main Makoto. Who should I look out for? Also, am I a faggot?

Makoto is very very good, top 3 material. Only characters you need to look out for are other god tiers. People will hate you for her command grab if you get good but fuck them.

Yeah, I've been trying to get her Karakusa > Fierce > SA2 in the trial, but I can't fucking get it to register it as a combo. I'm doing it right, I swear. The attacks come out after each other, but I guess my timing is off because it simply won't register.
I'm also completely lost on how the fuck her SA2 > Dash > DP shit works. Looks absolutely nuts though.

I've been playing pic related lately, any advice to get good with him? What are some good combos besides command grab into that charge punch thing?

I don't play makoto but I think for SA2 > dash > DP you end up on the other side so you have to do the input in the opposite direction.

Completely awful Urien here, anyone want to kick my ass and tell me what I'm doing wrong?

>you have to do the input in the opposite direction.
Just fucking kill me.

It's not that bad. Is this your first fighting game?

No, but I'm having a lot of trouble with this game. Could be because I'm more used to GG and being a shitter.

>mfw third strike's execution window
Have I been shit this whole time?

As Urien what should I be doing during neutral?

Which character has the easier fucking execution? Ryu and Ken?

Ken consists of doing c.mk xx hadouken xx 2xQcf+k. Really, not hard at all. Ryu requires wierd unblockable setups, and isn't top tier. Easy decision, pick Ken.

(j.HP/HK into) s.MK xx super/LP dash punch
s.MK xx LP/EX slaps
C&DB (command grab), EX dash punch, s.HK
cr. LP link into SA2

It's a bit more lenient than the Alpha series' but still far more demanding than SF4 onwards

You know that eventually it gets to a point that you just know what the blockstring is and you can parry it easily, right?

It's in the console versions of 3S, emulate that (PCSX2 runs SF Anniversary Collection well)

Glorious nippon overlords. America and EU can only dream to be as good as these chinks

SFV is better

practice

Thanks my man. Any advice for the big guy?

SFV isn't even as good as ST or Alpha 2/3. But it can potentially be. I don't get why people dickride it like its not flawed as fuck its the same vanilla tier SF title we always get on release Capcom still needs to polish the fuck out of it.

>Any advice for the big guy?

Hugo?

LP clap into cr. MK/EX clothesline
HP clap into MP clap into LP clap (needs to hit the first deep, only practical on stunned people or if the enemy get hits by the first when crouched)
Crossup splash (down + HP), cr. LK/2xLP xx EX clothesline/Hammer Frenzy
LP clap xx Hammer Frenzy
Ultra Throw into DP+K/Megaton Press
Ultra Throw into clap into DP + K on the corner (finicky, doesn't come up often, varies from character to character - you should probably learn this combo last)

Nah, Q. I only mess around with Hugo. The advice is still appreciated though!

Fuck I hate fighting Hugo. I feel like you have to play like a dick against him because as soon as you get close he 360s you.
