Oh shit i used to play PSX on that TV at my cousins place
Fun times

just is, when analogue TV was canned for digital it also led to massive disposal of CRTs

I'd love to build a retro gaming room with a CRT and 4th/5th/6th gen consoles.
Any cool examples of this?
What;t the consensus on the best CRT these days
Did SNES ever work with component cables?

CRT bread?

Did you try turning it off an on

Recommend me a decent crt for retro vidya

>gaming on a fucking 12 inch display.

pvms are a overpriced meme for hipsters. The only benefit they have is rgb but you need to buy scart cables and fucking $100 converters n' shit just to hook it up.

>8 inch too small
>14 inch too small
>20 inch too pricey right now

why cant there just be modern shit like lcds with fast response times for older games

i would get a pvm long before a framemeister though

>Did SNES ever work with component cables?
No, the best it can do without modification is S-video. The best CRTs out there are RGB monitors but they are expensive due to them being a niche market, the best cheap ones are the late Trinitron models with S-video and Component (like the one I posted ITT).

>you need to buy scart cables

just lol

>8 inch monitor with no 480p option

Who /multiformatmonitor/ here?

I never thought CRTs would be coveted.

n64 looks great on crts because its graphics are already a horrible blurry Vaseline dick smegma image quality.

last time I checked they have the quickest response times and best contrast. But perhaps LED has caught up now, i don't know

Not all of them
Certain ones are, but most of them are not
It's mostly the studio/video editor grade ones that supposedly have the best video quality if one chooses to play on CRT screens

Incorrect. All SNES systems support SCART.

I always forget that even exists since I'm American.

Is SCART equivalent to component? Better than S-Video?

Better than both

Are flat, widescreen CRT's a bad idea? I recall reading they did some of them did unnatural warping at the corners

You can bypass the filter with a mod.

bad geometry is way worse on a flat CRT, curved screens hide it better.

It was pretty much VGA with stereo audio.

I'm not sure why we never adapted it. It was clearly the best connection

I know, I remember how everyone was hyped as shit for flatscreens because less space and weight

>bvm prices
fuck me

If I was home right now I would take a picture. I have a decent setup around a PVM.

>Not RGB
>didn't even turn off the blur with a gameshark code

That looks like a blurry mess & you only have yourself to blame.

Its also through a shit S-video cable with the N64's already bad S-video output. The gameshark codes only remove the final FXAA style AA and basically just make the game look slightly worse.

>here's your BVM
>It only has 60,000 hours on it
>That'll be $2,000

Yeah fuck that. I may as well start collecting NEO GEO AES carts at that point.

>and basically just make the game look slightly worse.

I really need to take pictures of how sharp Harvest Moon 64 & mischief makers look on my PVM with an RGB mod & the anti aliasing turned off. Maybe it's only 2D N64 games that look good with the hack turned on.

Component is YCBPM (I hope I got that right)

Scart is equivalent to the RGB color spectrum.

L-lewd!

I never thought modern displays would have so much input lag that rhythm, fighting, & any other genres that require things like TIMING would be unplayable.

Pretty much killed the music games genre.

Does it remove the blur filter from the sprites? Because that always looked shitty in HM64, it was passable in Mischief Makers though. It seems like its a double edged sword with 3D games, either blurry image with minimal jaggies or no AA at all.

It removed the entire filter. I believe there's a way to keep the filter, but choose your level of AA if you don't want it completely off.

YPbPr.
You have training to do.

Good CRTs can cost as much as a 4K monitor, how did this happen

Damn right.

>Had one in my garage for a day and a half
>found out how good/scarce they are the next week

>people keep throwing them away
>someone is surprised they're rare all of a sudden

Pretty small. What is that, a 13?

The tournament organizer of my local melee tournaments uses one of these for the stream setup.
The quality is fucking amazing.

Sounds about right. Looks gorgeous in motion though. Pictures don't do it enough justice.

How do I play PS2 on one of these?

Just j-j-j-jam it in.

>he doesn't own a 1chip model or an RGB modded SNES mini

eh, better than nothing. You could be playing your snes even sharper though. The default models have a very soft RGB image.

It's a secret to everybody.

>My old CRT TV finally got so old that it stopped turning on
>I had to go to Goodwill and buy a plasma instead

Blur filter and AA are separate If I recall

from what i saw the other day some of the best response times on big HDTVs are around 20ms and some are MUCH slower, so they're still literally unusable

Maybe one day. Not really a priority at the moment.

It's just that retro games look damn good on them if you're using RGB.

stick the yellow plug into the yellow hole. or screw the rf into the vcr.

Seriously I'm retarded but I want good looking PS2 what converter do I need

Just put the SCART cable in.

I have component cable

I think PVMs use BMC?

you mean BNC?
Get a component to BNC adapter I guess.

I have no idea where I'd buy one of those in 2016
