Who else here actually quite liked Fallout 3 in their or third second play through?

Who else here actually quite liked Fallout 3 in their or third second play through?

It's genuinely comfy and atmospheric. The story is shit but if you just try to enjoy it as an open world game its pretty fun.

in their third or second play through*

don't know how i fucked that one up.

i liek it a lot OP and i dont really like fallout NV even though i try too, not sure why this is the rare opinion

it's the only Fallout game I didn't play through more than once

My favourite out of NV and 4. 4 was garbage, NV was good and better in a lot of ways but the atmosphere for me was better in 3.

Better ambient music. Better 'dungeons' (your pic for instance) where I can just roll up and kill enemies and get some neat loot. NV lacked this in particular, only places that came close were Black Mountain and the Bison Steve Casino, both of which are encountered early game. Random enemy spawns and events help keep things fresh between these dungeons. In the end, F3 has much more enjoyable exploration. NV outclasses it completely in story and game mechanics (crafting, weapon variety, consumable and ammo variation). Really boils down to the individual which of these they enjoy more.

I couldn't make it through one playthrough, and not because of the bad writing, bad story, bad graphics, bugs, but the fact that the combat--which is nearly the entire game is terrible. You're weak at first and everything just steamrolls you because you can't implement tactics, then you get a decent weapon and stand on objects they can't reach and their AI breaks. It's no fun.

>Fallout 3
>third or second play through

>Inb4 muh original fallout
Easily my favorite one. Only thing that even comes close to matching it is Tactics.

For whatever reason everything about 3's atmosphere clicked for me. One of the few games I 100 percented.

2 > NV > Tactics > 1 > 3 > BoS > shit > 4

Wandering the wasteland was fine but anything not linked to the putrid shit drips that was the story felt like it had fuck all impact.

>comfy

die in a fire

3 was dogshit

Only way to make Fallout 3 comfy
>kill Three dog or whatever was the name of that radiohost
>never ever enter into any subwaytunnel
>don't do the main quest

At least you can be total asshole in 3 unlike in 4.

I bet you enjoyed Fallout 4.

i liked 3 better than NV, though i think they're both nice. i'm not a lore fag into retarded factions so NV never really appealed to me much.

haven't played it and don't want to

> 2 > NV > Tactics > 1 > 3 > BoS > shit > 4
my fucking nigga

Wise choice user, congratulations on not being a total autist

calm down thomas

i liked it
it felt pretty empty and lifeless though.
NV was way better.

Up

>>comfy
this user is correct

comfy is a fucking retarded word when, precisely, the ruined atmosphere and the disgusting filter that makes everything brown and filthy makes this game the opposite of comfy

fucking retards I swear to God

It's a great game on it's own, a pretty enjoyable fps with rpg mechanics that was loved by most people who weren't hard into nostalgia from older Fallouts and made the series massively popular and succesful, i played it back then when it was released before even browsing this shithole so gladdy i could enjoy it without retarded memesters trying to ruin it for me.

>literally doesn't understand comfy in this context

We mean its the kind of game that is comfortable emotionally. Its familiar, safe and fun without effort. It doesn't force you to be perfect or die with every encounter and its a world you know and enjoy exploring.

It has NOTHING to do with the visuals.

Switch 1 and Tactics and that's my list exactly.

Why do you cucks still play 3 and NV when 4 has vastly superior combat

Even assuming that's correct, it would be the only thing 4 does better.

Because there's more to Fallout than fucking shooting.

>muh rooty tooty point and shooty
I bet you're going to buy Infinite Warfare too, you cuckold

It sure does smell like shit taste here

There are some good set pieces in 3.
Bethesda's problem is that they lack the focus to stitch them all together cohesively.

Tales of two wastelands mod, started in NV and just explored the CW while ignoring the main quests and it's horrendous writing.
That's the best way to approach Fallout 3.

It's got some interesting locales, side quests and they did good with the atmosphere. It stops there though, NV surpasses it on every level.

fallout 1 and 2 could be board games

NV would never have existed without the innovation of 3.

On the contrary on the second or third playthrough I realised just how boring and repetitive the world was.

>Ghoul Canal #5235 is an interesting location
3D fallouts are cancer.

bad RPG

bad FPS

but yeah a decent open-world running around game and makes a nice canvas for mods

The biggest issues with Fallout 3 is the writing and characters really

There's no real conversations in the game, hell. Eden and the final boss literally just either kill themselves or walk away from a single sentence of dialogue

Compare that to games such as 1 where for the final boss you have to have a legitimate conversation about morals and describe in depth why the Masters plan would not work.

In 3 the BoS and Mutants are downgraded to "Giant Heros" and "Big dumb villians" respectively with no other development besides that

>quite liked Fallout 3 in their or third second play through
I pity you if you have not enough other games to play so that this situation seriouly could happen.

If something is not enjoyable the first time, why play again? Hell, why even finish?

WHY IS BOSTON FULL OF ORCS

Fallout 3 was my first Fallout title and I really like it, yeah. Great fun to explore.

I went back and tried the originals, and I like those too, don't worry.

>I didn't enjoy it therefore its unfathomable to me that anyone thinks differently
Autism.

>The biggest issues with Fallout 3 is the writing and characters really
the AI, world design, and shooting mechanics are pretty awful too

There's two other major problems I'd associate with it.

1. Terrible settlements. The settlements just suck. They're all awful. Megaton just doesn't look good at all and not in a 'so bad it's good' way but just bad. Rivet city is a joke. And that's honestly it, eveything else is insignificant.

2. Wasteland. This is obviously a bit ironic given the setting but the original fallouts disguised the fact that you're in a wasteland due to the world map full of random encounters. You know it's a wasteland without actually having to endure it. NV is smaller in overall scale but with places packed with overall more to do and see.

3 is big and mostly just full of outright nothing.

It's okay as a loot-fest and basic exploration but as soon as I start doing quest and initiating dialogue I want to kill myself.

I don't know, why not just play NV, you get both open world and decent writing. NV may not have a million subways and generic offices to explore but it still has plenty of decent dungeons with some backstory.

Not him but the subways were my favorite part of FO3. Not that I think they were good, they were lazy copy paste dungeons but I'm a sucker for dark and dank places like that.

I still despise FO3, when the shitty subways were my favorite part of it you know it's a bad game.

>implying
Didn't say pic related user. Just snagged a random screenshot from my Fo folder.
I just said it has some things going for it in it's atmosphere but have your (you).

Both of those are true. I got something that associates with the wasteland: The game isn't hard.

Since you can go anywhere from the very beginning of the game, they didn't make any area besides one or two very hard. Because of this the tension never rises throughout the entire game until the last mission, and you don't even need to shoot there.

I haven't played 4 yet, but from what I've seen it looks like the people you interact with act "modern". Or at least, what Bethesda people think modern people act like. Am I at all correct? Like, a lot of people are sarcastic, or condescending. Im not really able to put in words what I'm trying to get at.

RPG mechanics simply do not work with "skill based" gameplay like shooting.
3D Fallout in it's current form will always be shit because of this.

I enjoy it more than NV. NV has better story and writing but terrible atmosphere and world design. The writing is still shit-tier so who cares if it's better. I'd play 1 or 2 if I wanted a quality RPG experience.

It's an all around shitty game, but exploring and mods were still fun.
It really has way less replay value than NV though.

Meanwhile people complain that NV had dangerous zones preventing you from going there immediately at level 1 with shit equipment.

Fucked up spawning mechanics killed it for me.

>90 min thesis on why Fo3 sucks
>Starts reeee'ing 3 minutes in
>Uses meme imagery
I'm still watching it though.

Read the OP, very slowly, and repeatedly.
mentioning that it was enjoyable on a later playthrough suggests that the first one was not.
Are you really so dumb that you donĀ“t understand basic sentences?
I mean, you are obviously plenty retarded, but do you lack any kind of reading comprehension?

This, comfy is the feeling of relaxed penalization. For example Valkyria Chronicles is the exact opposite. One screw up and you do an hour's worth of replaying unless you play very narrowly along with the "proper play."

Fallout is the opposite. Dying means so little and happens so rarely that the game is more about getting the jump on things than throwing down.

For me it's good to have a mixed library of chill games and tension games.

Just play NV; support the Legion and slaughter everyone in the name of Caesar

I agree that 3 had much better world exploration and atmosphere than NV.

yes NV had logical locations, people were cleaning up and stuff. But I just thought 3 tried to have so fun while making stuff. Megaton was neat with the bomb, but it was shit.
Rivet city was an interesting concept from the art work but didn't work in the engine.

I enjoyed exploring DC, like the museums, shops, finding a small band of mercenaries and helping them, trenches with mutants. Liked it more than the desert in NV.

Then you had cool locations like Dunwich, Tenpenny, BoS Outcasts, the whole of the Pitt. Point lookout was great and still my favorite fallout DLC.

Which is a shame that all this is fucked by horrible combat, OP perks that make it too easy, horrible writing, bad main quest line and the stupidest fucking ending (in regards to that mutant not wanting to shut off the water treatment plant)

>Autistic and triggered.

>yes
>no (until you say yes)
>sarcastic (yes)
>more infos

>atmospheric
it felt more like a "wouldn't that be cool?" instead of a "does that work together with what we're trying to do?". None of the pieces fit together and they don't even work alone.

And let me tell you something else. People who evaluate something with a single word such as "atmospheric" tend to be associated with novices who have not studied enough to come up with a proper critique and quite often dismiss the thing entirely. This would be like reviewing a paper or a film or a painting with one word.

"Atmospheric" is just a buzzword that doesn't mean anything and you shouldn't use it as a real argument.

Most locations in 3 trigger the everliving shit out of the RPG fan in me.

Why would I touch 3 when I can literally just play it in new vegas, TTW exists for a reason

It's subjective user

I hate fallout 3 but I understand why some people would prefer it's atmosphere and tone and shit

If they go around saying it's a better RPG than NV, that's where they become objectively wrong

Only things I liked about fo3 was:
Best radio by far.
Spelunking in the city ruins.
Watching the repercussions of your stupidity unfold, regardless of your best intentions.
>dat feel when you felt bad for the ghouls outside of tenpenny so you help them out and they slaughter everyone inside
Felt like shit.

For me, the first playthrough of Fallout 3 was the best. After that, it started to look more boring. Luckily, around that time, New Vegas came out.

My main gripe was that they made BoS friendly and open instead of xenophobic. Which is fine for as a faction. But they also added the Outcasts. So it just makes me wonder why they didn't just switch the two. Have the outcasts topple the BoS and control the citadel and act more friendly.

I liked rape-killing and enslaving children as turbo enclave nazi together with my SS squad and travelling around with my vertibird under the double headed eagle flag.
Shit I was edgy as teen, nearly as bad as Shadmans average drawings.

>first-person game
>"""combat"""
hack-and-slash and shoot-em-up doesn't constitute good combat. It's entirely resource based and there's no skill involved.

Resource-based combat:
>dependent on the player's health, loadout, accuracy, and ammunition count
>little to no range of movement, may the higher level win
Examples:
>Fallout
>Skyrim
>most FPS games
>most Call of Duty games

Skill-based
>dependent on the player's understanding of the other player's strategies, the player's ability to use the controls to their fullest, the player's accuracy for even melee attacks, and the player's willingness to either be patient and observe or be aggressive and overwhelm the opponent
Examples:
>Quake
>Zelda
>Souls
>Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare

New Vegas radio is better, sorry. 3dog is an annoying piece of shit and the songs are all memes. It's even worse in fo4.

>uranuim fever lol!
>atom bombs lol!
>ITS A NUCLEAR WASTELAND GAME, GET IT?!?

I also couldn't stand how they reused every single song from 3, as if I hadn't hear them enough

>shit gameplay (to be honest, NV isn't that much better in the gameplay department, but that's not why I like gameplay
>retarded world
>shit writing
I don't understand the appeal of 3.

2>1>NV>Tactics>4>3

How could anyone like 3?
It was so brain-dead.

>tenpenny quest
Fuck that quest.
>stop the ghouls from murdering people who you just spent time getting them to side with the ghouls
>>"THAT LONE WANDERER IS A PIECE OF SHIT"
>let the ghouls slaughter innocent people
>>"HAW HAW HAW, THOSE GHOULS SURE SHOWED THEM"
Fuck Fallout 3.

>New Vegas radio is better
Opinion irrelevant, it had like 1/3rd the number of songs at launch and all of them were slow and depressing bullshit that just made traversing the empty wastes more monotonous.
Not to mention the wet rag that was mr new vegas, who doesn't even exist in the game world.

How did they get rich anyway? Investment fonts? Aside from that one adventurer, no one had a reason to even be there.

Most of them were retired slaver commanders if you paid close attention.

It's funny because fans of 3 think that quest is so good and branches. That's their idea of a good quest.

Oh there was a reason? Nice. It's a long fucking time ago that I've played 3.

FO4 reused most of 3s radio I realized it really wasn't that good. Too many silly and wacky songs and not enough that just set the tone like NV's.

>old bluegrass and jazz
>worse than just jazz

Kill yourself.

i enjoy it in all of my playthroughs
reinstalling it right now because i've never played with mods

The problem was nv's tone was boring as fuck, and all the songs did was reiterate how boring it was to walk around a desert.
It made perfect sense in fo3/4 because the world is shit so the music is up-beat so people don't kill themselves, and it created this great mix of up-beat music to awful situations making a weird kind of madness that made everything more fun.

I think the people who like F3 were around 10 at the time, so that's why they love it so much.

Poor bastards never got a chance to grow up with good games.

>The problem was nv's tone was boring as fuck
>whacky is funny xD

underage

next you'll complain that Tactics had blue rock.

Oh wait you were only a toddler when that came out.

Still better than the 8 year olds who played new vegas without realizing it was a shitty expansion to fo3 at best, because they never played fo3.

Opinions of someone who never played fo1 or 2, both of which were wacky as shit.

NV is plenty whacky though you poser

3 is just so limited, no replay value. I don't play Fallout for a linear plot and shooting people.

I like all 3 of the 3D Fallouts. I liked NV the least, but that's mostly because it's glitchy as shit on PS3.

Why do you have to hate one to like the other(s)?

youtube.com/watch?v=mLJ1gyIzg78

Can someone help me with these fucking updates and mods?

My game worked fine a few months ago which was the last time i played it.

Now, the shell rain mod wont work (and maybe others too that i havnt noticed).

What has the update changed, i cannot get it working

People who hate something are more vocal, also Bethesda really fucked up NV's development and some think they fucked up Fallout as a whole so people bear a grudge towards them.
I enjoyed 3, but prefer NV. 4 doesn't really appeal to me, but I might try it somewhere down the road.

>everybody's ignoring my shitpost
I clearly have practicing to do

>1 and a half hour long video about why a game is shit
Who manages to sit through this? Can't people form their own opinion about the game?

>PS3

go away

>He thinks New Vegas had 'bluegrass' music.

It just happens, 3 was a huge disappointment to me and I've played through it once pre DLC, and once last year. Still shit.
Then NV came out and was actually fun. I can't tell you how many times I've played through it.
Hell even 4 got beat twice before any DLC.

because people with obnouxious opinions cant accept that their fav isnt someone elses, fanboismn i guess

country
whatever

fact is it was varried
