BECAUSE 995 OF THE GAMES MADE WITH IT ARE INDIE SHIT
it needs better sprite support.

Not pictured: demo actually running at 8fps on four GTX 1080s

Runs at 1440p on a GTX980 according to the description.

Why the fuck do all these demo films showcasing shit look far more interesting to play than any actual games we get? I want to know more about that world.

It's called Tech Demos

Trailers and demos always look better than the product.

That's the point.

Yeah, that doesn't mean much. Redering a movie in a videogame engine is way less impressive than actually making a videogame, you know, with gameplay and level design.

A videogame in Unity will NEVER look that good.

Unity in itself is not bad. It's like the band that got you into the current niche genre you like but reflect on the fanbase with negativity of.
It's good, it's just the large majority of users make shit games, fail kickstarters, don't fulfill promises, and have earned a reputation because of their actions.

Unity WAS shit. Its earlier versions were pretty poor.

What's wrong with unity sprites?

Did you read the ToS before you installed it? It's literally asking you to hand over every asset and piece of data to them.

its just a meme senpai ther nuttin wrong with unity

faggots with zero skill or talent use it

"talent"

its an engine what the fuck are you on about

it's like giving a Ferrari to a retard
it's not going to go far

so why should we hate the ferrari

Because there's no guarantee normalfags will like it.

I saw it running in the scene view and camera view at the same time at Unite conference. It actually does run in realtime at the speed the film is (60/30 i dunno). I was pretty impressed

Even sega are gonna be making a film in it.
They said they wanted to be able to have the quick turnarounds and editability working in a game engine gives them as opposed to proper film making

Because people are still doing shite games on it, and it takes real effort to pull some really good optimized shit, thing that people who will use unity don't plan to do

This was made in Unity.

If I could control the camera, I would be impressed.
Also I love these types of robot design. Can anyone suggest games (or anything really) that involves anything similar? I've already played Binary Domain.

It's also shit

People capable of understanding that won't hate the engine, unless they have personal issues when working with it. Most people just associate the large amount of indie developers with zero skill or talent using Unity as the engine being at fault, instead of blaming the talentless hacks trying to sell shit on Steam, or worse, flipping the assets on the Unity page and selling them straight back to steam.

The only thing wrong with Unity is keyword limits, multithreading performance and the default shaders

They recently hired the lead of Frostbite and he promised it will be the best looking/performing engine mid-2017 so if you're making a game, future proof yourself and get on Unity because i believe him. They also hired some Fox Engine devs too

Also, I think this looks really good for a Unity game
youtu.be/lfhrP-2ooho

If it is realtime why didn't they release it as interactive demo then?

This would have looked good in any engine, it was pure art-style over graphics.

Aren't they releasing it in a couple days? They're optimizing for all platforms and releasing the assets I believe.

they will.

ikr, this looks better than that FFXV crap and it's 2015 youtu.be/rpDdOIZy-4k?t=172

Looks of the game are mostly irrelevant for the major engines. It's mostly about ease of use, and developer knowledge of it.

So if the Ori devs were comfortable with Unity, then that was the right engine for them to use. It's irrelevant that unreal is "better" then Unity, if the things the devs wanted to they could do in Unity.

Because other engines can achieve the same, but better. Either cost, toolset capability, documentation and support availability, etc.

neither of you read his post correctly

Shut the fuck up you retarded idiots and stop falling and mouthing every meme you hear just to fit in. Unity is fucking great.

Look at how amazing the new Daggerfall remake mod is with the Unity engine.

Something about the camera work, voice acting and general motion capture in the scene when they're walking outside and one trips and the guy yells and shoots really reminded me of MGS.

Why would I give Epic 5% of my game's revenue when I can get the same kind of performance/visual quality out of Unity with a little effort configuring the shaders correctly?

Holy fucking shit I'm looking this up now.

Whoever they get to screenplay, storyboard & write Tech Demos and trailers for games, they need to hire those assholes to start doing our actual games.

That was interesting as fuck.

This looks GOAT

>It will be great in the future, I promise. So your soul to Unity now and start developing so when my promise never actually pays off, you'll be a year deep in development with Unity and unable to change engines

No thanks, Unity shill.

Sorry but the gameplay in Oblivion is really bad.

it was nothing. It was good graphics but ZERO idea how to use it. They had robots, some guards, landscape and 2 sukas who liberated the robots. From what? For what? So robots could live in the nature? Until their energy would die out? This is still a stupid SJW marxist propaganda in the good looking form.

I'm sorry for your abysmal tastes. Truly, kys-tier.

>this is a stupid SJW Marxist propaganda
Kill yourself
Or go back Pick one

Better than Skyrim/Morrowind but that's not saying much

Most games on it run like absolute shit.

That could be the indie developers. That could be early versions of the engine.

That's still the impression people have either way.

But it's great now, so it'll be fantastic in a year

Enjoy giving 5% of your total earnings to Epic :^)

Haven't been this hype for something for a while now.

Enjoy using an engine so bad that the devs themselves admit needing 3rd party addons make good shit with (Blacksmith video)

Also

>Unity documentation

lmao

>Open game
>It looks like generic shit
>Run likes ass on a super computer
>"Made on Unity" splash

Every time.

Oh man this looks amazing.

Because UE and almost any other engine has better tools and support.

Unity is not that bad, but there's no reason to use it if you're in the industry, so it attracts bunch of nobodies who make their broken games with shit tech that runs like shit.

>That could be the indie developers.

You get endless horde of indie devs on UE4 as well and it doesn't have nearly as wide spread performance problems across the library of games.

Working on a 2D game in Unity.

A lot of the updates add stuff that doesn't apply to the game that I have to work around. Sometimes they deprecate systems which fucks up everything (looking at you, networking). It's also complete overkill for 2D, although that comes with fun benefits like fancy lighting effects and the ability to get real dumb with particles.

>Unity
>An engine where the best debug tools are fucking third party paid addons because the built in ones are sp bad they're unusable for any serious project

I can't believe this garbage engine is still around, did some Chinese company buy it out and keep it on life support or something?

Except you know, the biggest UE4 game (ARK) runs like absolute dogshit

>robot eyes blinking
Why?

Because it's a humanoid feature and the goal of artificial intelligence is to mimic humanism?

>tries to proof an engine is good for game design
>posts a movie

Because despite all the extra shit they put into the engine, it is still literally impossible to rebind your keys at runtime without completely rewriting the input manager from scratch or buying an alternative on the asset store.

Almost 12 years and no one at Unity has ever been able to fix this problem, even with their new input system.

Because they've got proper cinematography and are basically just short films

Stop abusing words you don't understand.

It's never been bad. I prefer Unity 5 over UE3-4.

It's just that most people using the engine are lazy ass morons that don't know how to optimize.

Reminder that Cities Skylines was made with Unity. It won Nordic Game Of The Year award just recently.

Yeah this is bullshit, thankfully the alternative is cheap but it's still inexcusable.

>using Unity for 2D
>making a 2D in this day and age
Let me guess, it's a clone of a game you liked as a kid? Or is it a roguelike maybe?

not even close, the retarded level scaling alone makes it the worst tes title ever made

Witch looks more impressive than Unity's I'm robot.

If you're talking Witch vs FFXV. Of course. Witch is a tech demo, not a game

Can I at least understand Unity without a knowledge of code or do I need to have some significant understanding to do anything with it?

If you're programming, you need to understand how to code, but if you're doing level design or general asset work? Any idiot can do that

To be honest you can get pretty far with a project on Unity using the asset store not knowing how to code

>resolution is the same thing as framerate
Sup Forums these days has all kinds of crazy ideas.

It's pretty easy to pick up coding using youtube tutorials. If you're not averse to spending a some bucks you can also buy a bunch of assets from the unity store, including most code you might need.

Why eyes or arms or legs or fingers or anything? Robots don't have to look anything like humans but it becomes harder to relate to them the less they look like us

UE is easier, you can do everything with blueprints. Don't need to know shit about programming.

And you assume that a 3d unity game isn't a clone of some other game? Just look at Mighty No. 9

That looks like crap.

But you're also giving away 5% on top of Steam's 30% if you actually sell your project

If you're serious about monetizing your work, spend a $1000 and get someone to code for you.

I never assumed that.
But just go on itch.io and see that there is much more varied 3D games and that most 2D games are clones of each others.
Which is part of their nature really, 2D games are inherently more limited in terms of gameplay systems, nothing wrong with that but you're better off using game maker to do this.

It's the long panning shots without takes and general cinema techniques (shaky cam, tracking a person third person in one continuous shot, little dialogue but over-exaggerated character movements) Kojimbles has a hardon for all that stuff

The keyword limit is bullshit too. They say removing it would make the renderer slower but it's molasses as it is so I doubt anyone would notice.

Enlighten is garbage to boot, it's not even suitable for the majority of situations in most games. It takes forever to compute, leaks god damn everywhere and the lack of support for dynamic objects means you can't even have something as simple as a door work properly.

The GC still shits itself at random intervals, especially with async loading and doing almost anything with audio files.

IK is a fucking nightmare. Physics in general is all over the god damn place.

I'd like the new Frostbite guy to fix up a lot of what's wrong with Unity but I'll bet top dollar he'll look at their spaghetti ass systems and run before the year is out. This is a company run by Johnny Ravioli and who would rather make blog posts about diversifying your indie teams instead of improving their reflection probe compression quality, after all.

2D games are pretty good for learning how to make a game, though. You can easily figure out the gameplay, the assets, the code or whatever you might need, and go on to make the thing in a week. I think this also accounts for the saturation of shit games

Was there any fucking reason the robot was gasping for air? Or even breathing for that matter?

yup you're right

>implying your computer doesn't breathe
What do you think the fans are for?

This is honestly why my opinion of unity has been degrading lately. These things are all actual big problems that I've had to deal with at least once and have been around forever.

But you can cloud build and use our services! and make stuff for mobile! and we're going to charge you twice as much for that than we used to!

And we support 28 platforms! See that Samsung Smart TV? YOU CAN BUILD FOR IT!

What? No, of course you can't directly specific the texture map resolution for the dynamic shadows or have input boxes for the cascades. Just use the presets and inaccurate slider bar, silly. :^)

maybe all the sounds he made were in his mind

What's that? you want to control aspects of a particle emitter through a script? Well okay I guess, but only a few arbitrary ones, the rest are only through our UI.

Why didnt they just make a cool game with those 2 robots and maybe one of the orange and blue ones.

>60,000 Unity games run like ass
>Yeah well here's 1 early access game on UE4 that does!

OH HOLY SHIT, THIS LOOKS SWEE-

>It's not a game, just a short film

OK, see the video in OP's post? It's running in realtime, presumably at 30fps. The GTX980 can do that at 1440p. I know that must be difficult to work out.

>tfw i'll never make beautiful game like these

My Unity game doesn't run like ass, because I optimized it. Not my fault early access devs are untalented faggots

A lot of UE4 games run like garbage.

This

It's also using a hyper narrow FOV and culling at the periphery just to achieve that (Notice the robot on the left at 2:12 pop out of thin air as it enters frame)

It works nice in a controlled manner but this level of detail to performance ratio is not possible in a game because this overblown culling would cause pop-in city when you're whipping your camera around with a mouse.

MY DICK.

When's this coming out?

default shaders are very cool and easier to use.
Also i know how to write shaders and post processing shaders and i have shaderfroge.
I'm saved.

What happen with the feminist lead programmer of unity?

I hope they update to indirect lighting.

unity doesn't run like shit, in my old laptop using PBS post proccessing in same way i got at least 30 fps less in same quality with unreal.

Batman Arkham Knight runs like shit too, and arma devs say that unreal physics are bugged for multiplayer.
