I thought Nier was excellent but I didn't see it as deep. Everything was there if you were paying attention and got all the endings.

...

...

it also has the deepest backstory.
everything was not there.
Of course, I'm counting all supplementary material, including drakengard 1 and 3 in the lore.
Also
>if you paid attention
Did you notice that the black scrawl was the celestial alphabet spelling out broken strings of DNA code? I missed that.

>Nier
>deep

lmao if you actually believe this.

The single player in Splatoon is underrated as hell.

Nier is incredibly deep if you delve into the side material.
The fact that everyone thinks it's snow in the opening scene alone is deep

What game is this?

Drakengard 3 also has the celestial alphabet appearing whenever there are watchers summoned. It takes such a large amount of power though that it takes everything from the disciple if they have no intoner, also it appears obviously on the final song

Nier Automata

B2. cant u fucking read

It's fucking fantastic. Final boss is one of my favorite, most enjoyable moments out of any game I've played.

NoA version of course.

...

>devourer of Gods
>only devoured one

...

>Did you notice that the black scrawl was the celestial alphabet spelling out broken strings of DNA code?
No, but I assumed that the language could be reverse engineered.

I disagree with him about it being deep but it does respect the player's intelligence. If it were a regular JRPG the devs would assume the player is retarded and have characters repeat plot points multiple times.

The fact that it revels the word "Summer" after the year tells you that it was important. I assumed it was fallout, which it arguably is.

Damn that game looks good so far.

...

warcraft

Some followups with deep lore. This one is more self-contained
>I don't know anything but here's my opinion!
I assume you've read through all the material? otherwise it'd be hard to make a case on whether the lore is deep or not.

Meant to post another pic, forgot I already had a pic for E.Y.E.

Those melee animations look like they're ripped straight out of Bayonetta.

Not really complaining though, asking as the game is great.

R E L A T E D

>side material

Nah

Thank you OP now I have to watch it again in SE's youtube page.

It's actually salt from a giant queen decomposing and causing people to become infected with a disease that turns them into salt

>in SE's youtube page.
Why is that important?
>Nah
ya

>Why is that important?
Its not. I just know I'll find it there since they're the publisher.

>those life sized weapons
Wish I had an Aerospray, it'd be great for painting Gunpla.

...

I had played drakengard 1 and 2 before Nier and was quite prepared for the plot twist. Also the little shades in particular dropped stuff only children would have, like coloring books.

Not like it matters, automata will likely be easy for newcomers to get into but all the subtext and plot won't connect dots for them like it will veterans.

>even here some people actually care about my friend's game here when it's usually just considered indieshit
still can't believe it. happy to see it

>playing rehash uninspired souls the third
lmao

is that the new Touhou-game?

Your friends game?

Journey is one of my favorite vidyas ever, I have unreasonably many hours on it since I wanted the white cloak so badly. Also its OST is pure beauty

yeah

You don't know DEEP lore until you play SS.

Sup Forums pretty unanimously agrees that Journey was the tits.

>I assume you've read through all the material
I did after playing Drakengard 1/3 and Nier (might play 2 soon). I stand by what I said.

I feel that people calling it deep are encouraged to do so by the relative obscurity of the original game.

>
That's the kind of stuff that gave it away for me too. I had worked out most of the plot twists long before they happened. Like knowing what the word Gestalt meant and connecting it to the only characters in the game that sing. That coupled with how little they changed over the time skip tipped me off that they were antagonists.

There's a white cloak? Fuck, I gotta go back and grind that shit.

brace for the imminent ban

MARIO HAS DEEPEST LORE

youtu.be/ehGw4ZiNM9c

yeah, i know some of the people who've been a part of thatgamecompany. familiar with the people who did flOw (and flower, etc.) and a few who have gone on to work on ABZU as well which i'm pretty excited for this fall

austin wintory is also doing the music for ABZU and from the few tracks i've heard it's fucking magical, as always.

great game, i agree

well, that's good. don't see it discussed much here i guess. Sup Forums doesn't really like many other indie/independent games

Go back to GameTheory, ya knob.

You can't fool me, I bet you're Mozart.

Hello Luigi!

Any insider news if tgc is making a new game at the moment? Abzu seems interesting but would be exciting to get something new from tgc itself

>Stealing designs

...

i know they have something in development and are self-publishing it, but that's it. matt (nava) & austin (wintory) went to work on ABZU w/ giant squid, not sure what'll happen after release there or if they're working on the current project with tgc as well. i'd assume austin would be, but no clue how far along they are with this new project. i talked with matt at E3 and he seemed like he was pretty wrapped up with finishing and shipping ABZU, not sure what his relation with tgc is at the moment or how/if they'll possibly collab in the future.

the people i know people involved with tgc or worked some on journey, based in/around LA and the independent games culture there, etc., are generally involved w/ multiple studios/projects/artist groups/demoscenes/all that jazz, so we'll see what the next thing out of some of 'em will be

Qubeley has the sexiest fingers of any mobile suit.

>that retard ai that just bugs out and walks on the spot into the side of the boss

>eggplant
DELETE THIS

Take it back.

>tfw nier is now meme game
fuck you memefags

The AI buddies were retarded in every DoD game and only really served to stop you from getting swamped when fighting multiple enemies.

I'm not defending it, but I really didn't expect it to get better in Automata.

>Rekka Alexiel
what a fucking nerd

>Talking shit about people liking NieR Automata
>Hasn't even played all the DoD games
>Hasn't read the DoD3 prequel manga
>Doesn't own a copy of Grimoire NieR

Oh well as long as there's games like flower, journey and abzu coming out I'll be happy, normally not so interested in small indie games but Flower and especially Journey made a big impact. Probably going to get ABZU too right when it releases

Good. Nothing ruins games like AI that actually helps you. I wanna play the game, not have the PC do it.
It'll be just like Nier.

>DoD3 prequel manga
Is there an english translation?

inb4 "if you have to ask"

>get tenderly molested by Haman
>or
>get violently ass-fucked by Domon while he wakes everyone nearby with his constant yelling

This is the second time I've discussed Gundam sex with someone from Sup Forums now.

>Purple blade at the end of the staff is Nito's greatsword.

Eyeballs, do you have them?

>Haman
>Gentle

Is this a fucking joke?

Domon is a master martial artist, not a mad berserker. His finger technique would be second to none, gentle but forceful, not a single motion wasted.

yeah, some commercial indies are well done, especially with the right company philosophy like thatgamecompany.

in terms of independent games, atmospheric experiences with great sound design/music, i recommend kentucky route zero and night in the woods.

also you might like bound, saw the demo at e3 and it intrigued me and played incredibly well, though it's more of a traditional platformer than all others mentioned

>mfw I still play this after all these years
So good even now.

alright niggers what do i have to play to be up to date lore wise with this game coming out ?

What is this, 2hu3D?

Nothing really. The series is so spread out that you can just pick any of them to start with.

You can start with Nier and branch out from there if you want more. I started with DoD3 personally.

No, this is 2hu3D: Automata, the sequel

They're loosely connected, you don't NEED to play any of them.
But if you want to be up to date you need to play Drakengard 1, Drakengard 3, Nier
you also need to read Grimoire Nier, The Nier drama CD, 1.3, The Song of a 14 Year Old, The Fire of Prometheus and some other things.
Also read Utahime Five and Shi Ni Itaru Aka, the drakengard 3 comics.

>started with DoD3
I'd say that's the only one that's actually ill-advised to start with, even if it starts at the earliest point. Accord is so self-referential about the mythos

>all that shit
>no mention of the YorHa stage play
I mean Automata is chronologically and categorically much closer to that, being a distant-future game starring YorHa robots.

Right, that's true.
But you can just find a webm for that, r-right?

I didn't go out of my way to play 3 first. I had never even heard of the series at that point and picked it up on a whim because it was on sale.

Do you have balls of steel?
Start with Drakengard 1
If not, start with Nier then read Grimoire Nier online, then play Drakengard 1 then Drakengard 3

I think the speculation is that he learned the Gravelord Sword miracle like the player could in DaS, if you use his soul you can transpose life hunt scythe, which the description says he learned by dreaming about Priscilla. Miracles (Gravelord Sword is a miracle) can apparently be learned from stories in ds3.

Drakengard 1 for the source of the calamity. Drakengard 3 for the nature of the calamity and some insight into the automata. Nier for the backstory of how the world got into the shape it's in.

Really makes you think

Could be, but his theme also seems to be a mix of Nito's and Moon Sorceress (male)

Drakengard 2 is the only good drakengard

If we're being serious, the series with the deepest lore would almost certainly be The Elder Scrolls.

can someone post the picture of the marianas trench with the different games representing the different depths?

I get that the flower is some sort of entity that causes the calamity that leads to D1, but is there anymore back story to it? Like, where it came from? Was it created by the same entity that created the Watchers? Why does this entity want humanity dead so badly? I love the games, but the style of storytelling is so vague and disjointed. Nier at least has all the information that makes the plot make sense in the actual game and the supplemental material just adds extra flavor. I hope Automata is the same.

I'll just leave this here.

If this is a troll post to make me angry, good job you've done it, that is some dumb shit.

It might be connected to the black flower of the cathedral city

The Watchers and the dragons were created by the God(s) to destroy humanity. So, there's a theory that the Flower was also created by the God. We don't have any official info regarding the origins of the Flower, as far as I know.

> Why does this entity want humanity dead so badly?

"God: The single absolute existence, the Creator who made all living things. All living creatures act according to God's great will. However, humans alone are the sole existence which God's will cannot control. Because of this, God considered often the idea of erasing this "failed work" called humanity." [DoD Official Guide Book]

It's not the storytelling in his games. The way I see it, Taro just wants to tell a story; to tell this story he uses many tools not just video games. That's why it's so hard to gather the information together and make sense out of everything.

Its never explicitly said to be a watcher, but with all the blatant connections its probably safe to assume the flower is a watcher itself (maybe even the first) and/or something god whipped up when he realized the watchers needed a way to enter the world.

yoko wanted to call drakengard 3 drakengard 4 just to shit on people.

I am so excited for this release I get the shakes

Watchers seem kinda small-time compared to the flower.
