Seriously, though, I'd never use it if it were in reality

I remember seeing a cartoon like this really late at night. There was a guy charging people money to try out his teleporter, which killed them and created a clone. Some Williams Street shit. Freaked me out as a kid.
What the fuck was it? i want to see it again.
so whats wrong with it?
if i still recognize myself as me i wouldn't mind it..
or maybe i'd let it happen as i am able to permanently remove myself without actually removing myself...
What is The Swapper
When you go to sleep your conscious mind enters a similar state to death, when you awake it's essentially the same even as being destroyed and cloned
I already said not to give me that jazz, nerd
this is pretty much how the teleporter in star tre works right?
they are disassembled at the subatomic level, then reconstructed on arrival...
What if the teleportation device malfunctioned and it didn't destroy the original you?
There'd be two yous.
Who should live and who should die then?
Both. Then neither of us will have to be virgins!

You'd be dead user. Vaporised. The thing that comes out the other side is just a 6th day version of you.
>if i still recognize myself as me i wouldn't mind it..
I'm pretty sure the whole point is that YOU will die and disappear from this world, and your clone will not even come to the idea that he isn't the YOU that just stopped existing.
I'd have sex with myself.
You won't recognize yourself as you, because you'll be dead. Someone else who is an exact copy of you will be created.
I'd love a souce for that. Nothing changes, your brain doesnt dissappear and reappear at another location.
the moment you both experience anything you'll have already diverged into two conscious bodies. It's highly likely you'd have different opinions of what should happen considering the 'original' you would be expected to die and the current you would consider itself to be the only one the 'original' being a nightmare like consequence of teleportation malfunction.
This is in the plot of crichton's Timeline
What if you're destroyed every time you sleep and someone new wakes up next morning?
my clone will be the same useless shit who is 26 kissless virgin still living with parents playing video games,
no valuse was lost
Have you heard of the player who used a teleporter?
He was destroyed!
Teleportation device slices of pieces of your body bit by bit and then forcibly joins them back together.
Fuck the Prestige
>Who should live and who should die then?
Why would anyone have to be killed?
What is this shit?
That kind of happens doesn't it? You have almost entirely different thoughts and attitudes when you wake up, how's that still the same you that went to bed?
>Tfw endless cycle of you using the device when given the knowledge of your immediate death when the device is used
Ya but if you have the same memories and state of consciousness wouldn't it be basically irrelevant? Also I could see it being modified to help cure untreatable diseases by just eliminating the genetic mutations upon cloning
>you entire body is converted into waves
>you're then fired through the air, received and returned to physical form
>the process of conversion takes 1 hour both ways and is agonizingly painful, the worst pain possible.
>This part of the journey is not recalled at the end
>causes irreparable subconcious psychological damage
>No-one knows about it, its just a strange side effect that turns up over time as people use the teleporter tech
>different attitudes when you wake up
>not just using wormholes instead
>Ya but if you have the same memories and state of consciousness wouldn't it be basically irrelevant?
Yeah, only dumb folks think consciousness is tied to the material supporting it. If your brain keeps going on someplace else then your consciousness stays intact.
