Why didn't the trend of small CD like jewel cases continue as opposed to DVD like amaray cases? The only draw back is it might be difficult for multiple discs but Final Fantasy did it.
Why didn't the trend of small CD like jewel cases continue as opposed to DVD like amaray cases...
Music cds still exist in jewel cases, user.
This is the real question, why didn't this become standard for PS1?
Cheaper.
More durable (Won't crack.)
Look nicer and more modern.
Many sensible reasons really.
So all of your exclusive pre-order bonuses can fit inside of course :^)
More fragile, DVD cases were probably cheaper to produce.
My only guess is that DVD cases have are a single piece of plastic with a living hinge that is easy to stamp out on a production line, whereas jewel cases have more components. Also the plastic is brittle as fuck and the arms that form the hinge snap off all the time..
>Why didn't the trend of small CD like jewel cases continue as opposed to DVD like amaray cases?
Jewel cases are fragile as fuck. Even if you took care of them they would break.
Most people dont want fat ass cases that barely fit on their shelf
Because most normies need to see a different size case to know if it's a cd/dvd/bluray. They can't read.
In the EU we never got those slimmer cases for PlayStation. Ours were way thicker.
jewel cases are brittle as fuck, just press on the centre of one with your index finger and you will destroy it
I dunno.
The best game I ever played came in one of those CD cases.
>normies like them because normies can't read
???
They were a huge waste of plastic
i break up cocaine on cd cases
...
Yeah, we had PS1-specific cases. Even though they were bigger, I thought it was nice to have something unique for your games.
oh man i just laughed so hard
More expensive to produce and easier to break.
all these bait tabs
Yes.
violence
go kill yourself
>hating the best castlevania
>hating castlevania at all
>being 8 years old
calm down, violence
just kill yourself
didnt they also have ugly white spines like the japanese ones? man the ntsc ones were sexy
Seriously fuck these cases. They never close right they break all the time especially for duel or multiple cd games like ff or chrono cross. They suck so much asshole
>waste
>of plastic
I miss instruction guides and booklets. Now you have to buy the fucking collectors edition to even get something close.
Why do companies keep changing game case/cover art layout?
It looks ugly as fuck on shelf and it triggers my autism.
Something like this is technology that died in the early 2000. I don't miss cassette or video, but even that shit was better than these fucking hyperspinning discs that rot.
Fuck yall chimpanzees that hold on to this shit. I can imagine 8-bit retroplatformerroguelike procedurallygenerated hipster games on vinyl next.
I like those paper album covers that some artists do.
>analog gaming
Everything wrong with the image on the right can be both summed-up and explained with a single word:
Pabst.
in the early days of the fifth generation of consoles, american console distributors were fighting to have the most presence in places like babbages, funcoland, kb toys, toys r us, etc. and the bigger the box, the more eyeballs you got. its only been about 12 years since the FUCKHUGE pc gaming boxes went out of style, and while it could be a nightmare for collectors and the assholes behind the counter, it seems like it did the trick in magnifiying the 3.5 floppy and the cdrom to dominate the shelves.
i always feel cheated when i get a CD that has that case
its ok but could use some work
Jewel cases are the reason I stopped collecting PS1 games.
They're so fucking breakable and shitty.
Trying too hard.
But they included cool things like maps and books
You're lucky to get a pdf manual now
