You know what noone ever mentions? Perpetual backwards compatibility on PC.
That alone makes it worth building a PC library for, even with the hassle of compatibility issues. I always know I can play my games later at higher settings and framerates a few years down the line when I upgrade.

Not him but I've tried it many times. Most games from that time period or earlier work fine with some light tweaking. Hell I can even play 90s games on my Mac through WINE.

I've played them both and even modded the pc version with eve and other visual enchantments. No big difference.
But it's also holding pc back. The slew of old API and libraries, it's like a garbage dumpster. Once in a while every system should have a clean start. And VM and emulation can take care of the rest
