Find a better level in ANY mgs game i will wait
Tanker would be if it was actually a full fucking area and not "the tutorial level".
Camp Omega
...
>mini gecko fucking everywhere
those little shitcunts ruined it
taken as a whole, I think MGS3 was at the height of MGS's level design
Metal Gear solid 1 had such good levels they revisited it and copied it 4 times in the series. Its clearly the winner. Any section.
Just finished marathoning 1-4 back to back for the first time. Is Peace Walker worth it? As in is it a full-fledged Metal Gear game?
MGS4 Shadow Moses would have been God Tier if there were actual guards posted and not those mini Gecko fucks.
4 was the last real MGS
PW is ok as a game but, as a rule, anything post-MGS4 hardly even feels like MGS
mgs1 copied its levels off of mg1 though
the fucking mountain top in mgs 3 I fealt like Rambo especially when shooting the patroling choppers while snake is yelling like a mad man
Tanker
MGS 4 South America
MGS 3's Jungle
It is worth it, but it's the worst MGS game. There's a lot of very similar boss fights that pad the game length a lot. The story is pretty shit too. You should play it at least once though,
Thats because Kojima was cajolled into making 4 to begin with and wanted it to be his absolute last MGS game. Then he got pressured to fuck by Konami and they were going to just keep making games without his input so he said fuck it. His heart was never in it after 4 and it showed. MGS5 was a great game but did not feel MGS at all.
As in Shadow Moses in general or Shadow Moses in 4?
The one in 4 is way too congested with guard robots.
It's still pretty good when it fully opens up in the VR missions.
We'll be waiting a while
>empty open world
lol no
this level was a godsend after the shit tier europe level
The black site in Ground Zeroes is the best area in the series. It's a damn shame V was mostly empty nothingness instead of more of that.
Kojima didn't even want to make MGS3.
First time through it was 10/10 GOAT
Then you learn the ins and outs of the map and the appeal is lost on later levels. V would have benefited from less levels but more diverse locations.
In some ways, Peace Walker reminds me a lot of the first three games. The guards have a low vision range, the levels are tight, and the setting is a jungle.
But the bosses aren't great and the progression system turns a lot of people off. Just give it a try.
MGS 4 is the worst Metal Gear game
I played it on the psp when it came out. I thought the gameplay and the base-building were great. The co-op missions are fun as hell too.
I'd recommend the vita version since it lets you use the second analog stick for the camera.
>not MG1
Ground Zeroes is the best level of any MGS game. Too bad the game it's a demo for us pretty trash
GZ is so fucking good, I can't believe it. From a gameplay standpoint, it's the pinnacle of the series.
>In the original draft of Metal Gear Solid 4, the ending had Solid Snake and Otacon turning themselves in for the crimes they committed, and executed. Most of the staff vetoed this ending, so it was not used.
that could have been the most ballsy ending in gaming history
All GZ did was roll back to the simplicity of MGS1/2, without all the useless things like 100 weapons, camo, survival nonsense, etc. That's exactly why it felt so good to play.
You had one mission to accomplish, and any extra equipment was procured onsite. That's how MGS should've always been, but that quality was lost during MGS3 and onwards.
Ok, i just got mgsV and the HD collection at the same time on sale for $20 total
Do i need to play peace keeper before V?
I don't want to miss out on any story related shit
Also, i can't play 4 period because i dropped my ps3 down the stairs, but i know it happens after both games i mentioned as well as SoL, snake eaters, and mgs
>the bustling community hub of afghanistan
might want to get that PS3 fixed
>waah afghanistan is empty
It amazes me everytime I read this complaint about MGSV.
I played MGSV just fine without ever touching Peace Walker, but there was still some stuff I didn't understand.
MGSV was the perfect opportunity for Kojima to revisit the "war stealth' concept introduced in MGS4, but he opted for a bland open world with a single passive faction that you have to actively bully for them to do anything interesting.
Thats why MGSV fails as an open world game, even DLC tier shit like FarCry Blood Dragon managed to make their world actually feel alive.
True. That and the godlike movement.
>empty boring open world
>somehow Afghanistan doesn't have a single town or civilian
>far cry even has this
a poor excuse, but you tried
V is not going to make any sense without PW.
The level design was great too
The midle east cenario is miles better, sad the game wasnt just that all time.
PW sucks, it's literally just big boss going ABLOO BLOO BLOO THE BOSS DIDN'T LOVE ME ENOUGH BY THE WAY THE SANDINISTAS ARE PRETTY COOL
Nobody cares about Big Boss "fall from grace" or whatever, we already know he's a bad guy who horribly misinterpreted The Boss' ideology.
it's significantly less empty than the real place
it's only "boring" if you're boring
Go play saints row or battleborn if you need keys dangled in front of your face every 5 seconds
Its better than the rest of the game but the entire section hinges on nostalgia. Its still stuck in a shit game. The crying wolf fight is good and piloting rex is probably the highlight of the game.
>but the entire section hinges on nostalgia.
theres literally nothing wrong with this
PW is trash just forget about it.
This same level on MGS.
That was pretty easy.
>literally occupied soviet territory in one of the least population dense countries
>"Snake, head to the inn and ask the locals about the missing sahelthanropus, they might know something"
The middle east was the worst location out of the first 4 MGS
I live on the 4th floor and have commie block conrcrete stairs. Theres nothing left to fix ;_;
>three conflicting answers
uhhh t-thanks anons
Guess ill just play it safe, i would still have played peace walker after
metal gear solid 1 is so good that it literally ruined the rest of the series
>he has no idea what he's talking about
speaking of poor excuses. Even if it was all of Afghanistan, which it isn't, the "country" has been 95% mountains and stretches of sand that make for mindnumbingly boring marches to the last 5% of "towns" which consist of a bunch of tribes shitting on eachother. Welcome to 330 BC.
Just watch a video about Peace Walker. It's the dumbest Metal Gear game ever made.
Same with 2
It hit such high notes that Kojima spent the rest of his time with MGS scrambling to justify it when he didnt have to
>worse than sons of liberty
not possible
t b h MGSV only really needed the Hospital map and you could've made a full fledged MGS from that alone.
It might be my personal favorite game. Loved the hell out of it. 200+ hours logged on PSP.
Camp Omega or the middle east in MGS4.
Shadow Moses in MGS4 is great for the nostalgia value, gameplay-wise it's not that great IMO.
It was still fucking amazing to revisit these areas all those years later. I'm just sad we didn't get to see the level where you fight Psycho Mantis.
Overall I agree with Tanker was amazing, probably the area I played the most in any MGS (mostly because of the demo, but I would still return there a lot in MGS2).
Can you give some of peacewalkers stregths?
I know it started alot of the base building shit continued in MsgV
Why, because it's true to life? I don't care about that, if placing the game in afghanistan makes it boring then move it somewhere else. It's not like Kojima has to worry about damaging the coherence of his story.
Has a pretty fun cast and is probably the most lighthearted MGS
that is if you ignore the whole kidnap/indoctrinate thing you do throughout the game
>that is if you ignore the whole kidnap/indoctrinate thing you do throughout the game
kek ive been thinking about that ever since i saw a review with the parachute thing flying away knocked out soldiers
It doesn't have any, the game is garbage
The big shell was bland and repetitive but it had some cool locations for sneaking. You had smaller areas where you could proceed slowly and you knew what you were against.
Middle east has huge areas with people running everywhere, spawning from everywhere and it's not always very obvious why somebody does or doesn't see you. I always feel miserable going through these levels on high difficulty in MGS4, you're basically flipping a coin everytime you leave cover.
After MGS1-4 just skip to Rising and you're done with the series
holy shit user, did this game steal your gf or something?
Its not that terrible, ive played the co-op missions shit before once or twice
Rising is totally unnecessary for fans are of the series. If you like action slashers it's a good game but I hate the meme that it's somehow relevant and cyborg Raiden is the dumbest fucking thing to ever happen to the mainline games short of the pants shitter becoming a hero and marrying Meryl
It's more worthy of being called MGS5 than V ever was.
>I think a game is easily the worst in the series and I would rate it a 3/10
>hurr durr you habs a personal grubge
>Why, because it's true to life?
No, because the typical argument against open world games is that they are boring.
When you have a game set in a boring place, in comes off as very redundant to repeat the same trite.
>Rising is totally unnecessary for fans are of the series.
kek because the prequel bullshit totally is. At least the post-Shadow Moses world is actually interesting. I dont know why Kojima invested so much in going backwards in the timeline so that the series loses much of its speculative charm.
I didn't say five was any good, if is poison to fans of the series but fine as its own action game
Kind of like Rising
>I don't like one thing because it is pointless to the series and lore
>I must like all the other stupid shit too
You guys are really reaching today
Are you fucking kidding me?
Skip 4 if you're gonna skip any one of them.
>crooked scope
the fuck
the only thing really off about it is Raiden's development. Everything else about it is solid as fuck.
I like how it bothered to make their bosses actual characters like every MGS since 3 totally forgot to do.
>also has the best codec team since MGS1
>forgetting about acid/tactical ops
Welcome to the ANA.
The only thing missing in that picture is hash and a dancing boy.
The Russian base in MGS3 that houses the Shagohod is probably my favorite.
Blood Dragon was a stand alone game, not DLC.
You dont skip the end of the series. After MGS4 everything else is literally DLC tier
at least Rising is fun to play
I'd say MG2, Ghost Babel, or MGS2 were, but MGS3 was the most aesthetically varied.
Acid and portable ops are better MG games than PW or Rising. Rising is more fun than those two but this idea that because rising has metal gear in the name makes it relevant to the series is laughable
Its a spin-off game that happened to have excellent presentation and gameplay, and it offered an interesting look into the post-MGS4 world.
That alone makes it worth a play. More than the wankfest that is every single Big Boss game after 3.
Ill agree with you on Rising, but Acid is seriously one of the shitiest games ever made
The story is retarded
The card based shit is even worse than phantasy star ep 3
>need to use a ap to open a fucking door or change which direction you face
all the dialogue and character models are shit
completely non-cannon
Oops got my streams crossed there, but I also think Portable Ops and Acid are better MGS games than PW and also better games all around
You do if the end of the series is terrible.
explain how its not relevant
besides, Rising is the logical conclusion/continuation to the series after MGS4. If they just cancel MGS as a series and continue pumping out Rising games I'm all for it. MGS as a concept died a long time ago.
Rising isn't a mainline game, it's a spinoff and true Raiden game that draws a lot of parallels to MGS1.
realism means fuckall in a videogame. boring, empty worlds with nothing but plants and outposts = shitty game
In fairness I only played 2, has the same things you mentioned disliking present but I thought it was a lot of fun and won't fault it for restrictive AP mechanics
MGS level design is pretty average
Can't think of a single instance that's very good.
The story sucked, cyborg Raiden still sucks, and the post mgs4 world was bland
they changed alot of the mechanics for two, which was WAY better than one in every sense.
Also the cell shaded art style in two added a nice unique tone that was also not found in 1
Try playing 1 and 2 then.
That's not explaining anything.
Best mech battle I've ever played.
It isn't relevant because despite the few parrallels which were mostly through Raiden the game does nothing worthwhile to add to the MGS universe. A stealth game in the vein of MGS2 (my favorite) set in that world with that story would still be weaker than fuck
came here to post this
>It amazes me everytime I read this complaint about MGSV.
I really didn't care about the empty gameplay mgsv had but you're fucking retarded.
>no patrols other than 2 LRRP's that walk from base to base
>enemies can be heard talking about having tanks and helicopters being issued to each base
>it's literally fucking nothing and there's no helicopters aside from scripted missions
>no mujahideen battling soviets around the map
The last point actually makes sense considering skull face released the pashtun vocal chord parasite hence silent basilisk but it's pretty damn clear the game is unfinished.
Imagine if TPP had been a series of short games like GZ
