Why are the Shimomura-headed Kirby games so slow and boring?

>reduced skillsets, even in the latter two games after Super Star's expanded complexity in terms of moves and mechanics in comparison to Dream Land and Adventure foreshadowed Sakurai's future game design in Melee
>buddy characters no one gives a fuck about (gooey looks like the living embodiment of ahegao and who cares about that painter bitch, rick the hamster, or that pink blob that's apparently kirby's gf)
>generally slower paced
>"hurrr you have to be able to break every fucking block in the game to fight the actual final boss" (Return to Dream Land pulled the collectible thing off way better)
Super Star shits all over Dream Land 2, Dream Land 3, and Crystal Shards. Also, Dream Land 3 looks and feels like it was made for literal toddlers (discounting Zero and 02, of course), whereas Super Star often at least felt like an action cartoon for 8-12 year olds at times (especially in Revenge of Meta Knight and Milky Way Wishes)

quick question op. maybe you just suck at the game? did you know you can dash and kill enemies with kirby's head?

Kirby IS literally for toddlers, OP

>who cares about that painter bitch
hey fuck you faggot

Atmosphere is what they had going for them.

I have a certain quota I measure games by - the notion of "oh hey, remember that part?" Basically, it's if you can name a certain part of the game and suddenly remember things about it that weren't at the back of your mind at the moment.

While the Sakurai Kirbys are superior in most ways, IMO the Shimomura Kirby's trump the Sakurai kirbies in terms of "remember that part."

if you want to get comfy in the middle of fall, then shimomura kirby > sakurai kirby

music is better too

They have a different style. That's all.

All the Kirby games with a different director have their own style with it comes to Kirby.

I was a teenager when Crystal Shards came out, and for some reason, felt it was really unsettling amidst the comfy and felt like a huge pussy, song related especially
youtube.com/watch?v=LvD6AyM31B0

Kirby 64 is hella unsettling

it feels like you're exploring a dead universe

>hating on Gooey

All the Kirby games are sort of boring.

I wonder if there's any difficulty rom hacks.

true arena robobot

True Arena is not what I'm looking for. Kirby is about the platforming. I want normal levels with normal enemies to challenge me. That's where the fun is.

dont pick up health

>robobot true arena
>hard

yes

Crystal Shards is so short and so slow but it gets a free pass for many because it was the first Kirby game in 3D, it had the best take on ability mixing, and it had a bitchin soundtrack.

Dream Land 3 is worst game in the series. The level design is linear and painfully repetitive. There are so many instances in which you dodge the same type of obstacle in a row or enemy with no variation.
Avoid the falling thwomp thing, Now do it 5 more times! Duck under a platform to avoid a rolling boulder, now do it 2 more times...
The art style is a poor man's Yoshi's Island. Collecting the hearts wasn't always fun because you had to exit levels and restart a lot.

It has some unique enemies and ok music but I do not understand the love that game gets.

...

Did he get you with the kill wave?

no

Should I bother with Triple Deluxe / Planet Robobot?

I was disappointed with Return to Dreamland, I felt like it was just a watered down Super Star.

Kirby's Adventure is literal babby shit.

Exactly how it was intended

Then I fail to see what is so difficult.

Is that an emulator?

You must be asian then, those fuckers are good at video games

yes

You probably shouldn't bother with them if you felt that way towards Return.

For the most part I think they are better though.

Emulator user is a blessing.
The emulator runs like shit though.

>kirby is about platforming

you have infinite jumps!

I've played first person shooters with less forgiving jumps than kirby

I fucking love Clockwork Stars

crystal shards had power combining so it's automatically the best kirby.

Kirby feels like it's made for toddlers. Every single Kirby game I've played felt like it was an insult to my intelligence. Why does Sup Forums rate the series so highly?

Are you fucking retarded?

Kirby is a kids game for kids
IT has always been braindead piss easy shit
It's fun for one or two and then you realize you're playing the same game over and over
THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION TO THIS RULE
>Kirby Super Star Deluxe on SNES/3DS
It was different and had tough moments and was an amazing game

The rest are kinda shit though
-honorable mention - Amazing mirror metroid esque Kirby

because underneath all that cutesy there's some pretty dark shit going on
also comfy

if i want a Kirby with a Super Star and Shimomura Kirby feel, i'd just play the Kumazaki Kirby games.

KPR has to be the best one he recently shat out in years,

>because underneath all that cutesy there's some pretty dark shit going on
No there isn't that is simply a bunch of fan wankery because of the most autistic fans of the franchise having nothing better to do than over analyze every pixel in every game and happens to every game franchise with dedicated fans
>also comfy
A word that means literally nothing to anyone outside of Sup Forums

>A word that means literally nothing to anyone outside of Sup Forums
by your logic, fun means jackshit because "hurr subjectivity"

in a game where you float around as a pink ball you're complaing about the pace and art style? i prefer the more casual pace and softer art style in dreamland 3, it holds a lot of charm more than a generic cartoon style. and i like the fact that you have to do something unique in each level to get the collectible.
also crystal shards' copy combining proves that there aren't reduced skillsets. kirby is best when it's more like a casual platformer with a lot of charm, like dreamland 3 and less like a fast paced action game. a floaty ball of fluff doesn't make a good action game anyway

What are the actual Wish Granting capabilities of a Clockwork Star? We never actually got to see NOVA in action except for summoning Galacta Knight, and Star Dream seemed to only be using incredibly advanced technology, so could they ACTUALLY grant ANY wish asked of them? Are any wishes made always interpreted in destructive ways like Star Dream's attempt at wiping out all organic life or NOVA's interpreting Marx's "I want to rule Popstar" as "Ram the fuck into Popstar with your gaint-ass clockwork cat face" or did we just get some bad examples?

I really wish we would get some Kirby expanded universe shit like a manga or something to explain some of the games' deepest lor

>NOVA's interpreting Marx's "I want to rule Popstar" as "Ram the fuck into Popstar with your gaint-ass clockwork cat face
Hey now if can you ram yourself like a meteor into a planet and come out okay then why not?

They do seem to have limits though. When Star Dream tried cloning Dark Matter it couldn't even clone a full version of it. And it took everything it had just to clone it in the first place.

Nova was neutral as it granted Marx's wish and served its purpose.

Star Dream was programmed to harvest natural resources from planets, and therefore attempted to serve its purpose.

I kinda had this theory where Clockwork Stars arent supposed to be killed, because they can be seen as sort of a gift to the universe. And if they are killed it causes a massive disturbance in certain dimensions.

Halcandian Law or Rules of Nature I suppose

>Fan wackery
Far from it bro. Recent Kirby games have some nice messages and at least try to have a plot, unlike Mario. Also, these plots are indeed canon, and what I am going to list are not speculations, but facts that can be found by reading the pause memos of recent Kirby games.
>Sectonia's pursuit of beauty corrupted her. As she sought to make herself more beautiful, she lost sight of what was truly important; she completely spoiled her relationship with Taranza, even though all he wanted was to have her regain her senses and go back to him.
>Everything about Haltmann and Susie's backstory. Haltmann thought he lost his daughter when she was sent to Another Dimension by the Mother Computer. Because of this, he only cared for his company's prosperity and welfare; similarly to Sectonia, he wanted to focus only on material gains. He, however, kept hopes of seeing his daughter once again, hence he activated Star Dream to make that desire come true.
>Magolor, in his final phase, is no longer himself. The pause menu exactly describes him as "a sad shell" that is being controlled by the power of the Master Crown.
>Let's not forget Zero's eye popping out of his main body, with all that blood coming out of the hole.

>there will never be another game like kirby 64
Why is combining powers and 2.5D with a dynamic camera such an impossibility?

Magolor is the creepiest final boss to me

The crown has a grip around his body, and the eye is clearly not part of Magolor

Using copy abilities is fun.

Wish Nintendo released the Kirby sidescroller on cube. We might have seen a hardcore game. The Kirby franchise is really not to be played after Super Star. I would love to see what Itagaki would do with the franchise

OH look, the cuckurai kirbyfags are shitposting again

Remember when Kirby threads on Sup Forums were good? Pepperidge Farms remembers.

>The Kirby thread this weekend is bait

>Sectonia's pursuit of beauty corrupted her. As she sought to make herself more beautiful, she lost sight of what was truly important; she completely spoiled her relationship with Taranza, even though all he wanted was to have her regain her senses and go back to him.
I want Taranza to have his waifu back

Shitposting and namecalling is not making the threads any better.

Yeah, and I forgot to mention she began corrupted with her radical ideals of beauty because of the Dimension Mirror Taranza gave her. Mind you, he probably did not mean to cause any harm to her. What's sad is that neither of them deserved everything that happened, and we couldn't even protect them.
By the by, do you have the other pic that's similar to that one? It also features pre-transformation Sectonia and Taranza.

>Preautist having shite taste

this?

>There will never be a Shmup Kirby Spin-Off game

I'm honestly surprised by this concidering how many times there ends up being a Shmup section in a Kirby game.

To be fair, 90% of MH threads start with bait.

The nova level in super star is better than 60% of shmups out there

At least we got Mass attacks shump mini game.

That's a very cute one, but it's not exactly what I had in mind. It was something else very, very similar to the first one you posted. Probably done by the same artist as well. Still, thanks for this one!

Taranza did all those bad things just because he wanted to be with Sectonia
He would follow her to the ends of the galaxy
He cared about her that much

>this is the same faggot who've been spamming miiverse caps in our designated Star Fox shitting threads
>he's 15 years old
thank you so much for discovering this asshole Nintendrone, Paper Mario fans.

Which are the Shimomura games and which are the Sakurai games?

clockwork stars operate on the "tech so advanced it's basically magic" level of science

Dreamland 2, 3, and 64 are Shimomura games.
Dreamland, Adventure, and Super Star are Sakurai games.

>Shimomura
>Dream Land 2 and 3
>Kirby 64.

>Sakurai
>Dream land 1
>Adventure
>Super Star
>Air Ride

Sakurai- DL1, Adventure, SS
Shimomura- DL2, DL3, CS
Kumazaki- RtDL, TD, PR

The shimomura games are sometimes called "the dark matter trilogy" since all three use dark matter/0 as the antagonist.

Huh, I would have pegged DL2 with Sakurai. Maybe it's because I was a kid last time I actually sat down to play it, but I remember it feeling like a nice mashup of Adventure and DL1 with a couple of gimmicks.
It never felt as slow and peaceful as DL3 or 64 imo.

>Dream Land 3 is worst game in the series
I didn't realize it was possible to be so wrong about something.

I would say it's easily the best. Each of the animal partners multiplies the variety of Kirby's powers. There was genuinely thoughtful puzzles to figure out how to get the "true" end of each level. The little mini-games in between levels were fun and challenging as they went on. Plus, it was an actual challenge in many ways: I remember plenty of levels that required multiple playthroughs just to get the jumps and runs down correctly.

>DL3 the worst
>when squeak squad and star stacker exist

>tfw you will never paint her like one of your french girls.

Dream Land 3 cannot be the worst in the series when it is objectively better than the very first game, you know. Even then, it is probably better than the laziest Kirby games out there like Kirby's Avalanche, which is quite literally the same as playing the first Puyo Puyo.

Kirby feels a lot closer to a lite beat em up to me than a platformer. You do very little platforming. Almost all of the obstacles are enemies you fight with your wide variety of attacks, and the natural endgame for anybody playing all the way through a modern kirby game is the boss rush.

holy shit user, what a perfect statement

I'm playing through all the Kirby's, just finished DL2 and moved onto DL3. I agree with OP on that with DL2, but DL3 feels way better to control. With 2 I didn't enjoy the game until the last world, but with 3, I'm having tons of fun. The way Kirby keeps his momentum with jumps feels really nice, and the animal friends don't hold back the level design anymore. The abilites on the feel much more well thought out as well. Maybe DL2 was just held back by crappy GB hardware.

It sucks t b h f a r m n l e e
DL3 had great graphics and some fun level desing but hooooly shit.. ITS SO SLOW
And in co-op only one player can ride animals iirc?

What about Return made it feel watered down? Return, Triple Deluxe, and Robobot all follow in Super Star's footsteps, but I think both TD and PR are better than RtDL. Return to Dreamland being designed to accomodate four players at every conceivable moment hurt the quality when playing single player. The latter two don't have that problem, and the boss fights are better.

My only opinion on the subject is that the return to dreamland style games suck

But we got asshole Kirby out of Avalanche.

Avalanche is literally puyo puyo, they wanted to localize ot but though it was too Japanese for burger children so they edited it to have kirby characters. Same story as mean bean machine. Arguably notba real kirby game.

>lite beat 'em up
Perfect way to describe it. Super Star, Return to Dreamland, Triple Deluxe, and Robobot are all very beat 'em up-esque while Dreamland 2, Dreamland 3, and 64 are more puzzle based.

Truth to be told, I think my biggest problem with Dream Land 2 was how ambiguous the methods to collect most Rainbow Drops were. If you were not using a guide, it was kinda hard to figure out what to use for each type of block. Not to mention possibilities got wider when taking into account the animal partners.

...

Return was boring to me, but I loved Triple Deluxe

a

>342794784
I fucking love Kirby's Avalanche story mode, he's literally American Kirby in that game.

>dedede, meta knight, and top dee are playable
>but ONLY FOR PLAYERS 2-4
>just so Kirby can always be active to do those stupid pointless pacebreaking super copy ability segments

nintendo please stop doing this shit

...

...

...

a-user are you okay

...

SAVAGE

...

...

fuck you krako, I hope you don't show up in the next game you cloud nigger

One more.

>We never actually got to see NOVA in action except for summoning Galacta Knight

Didnt it grant Marx the power to turn into an eldrich abomination or was he always like that hidding behind a cute exterior?

Does appearing as a hologram in Planet Robobot count?

The only time Marx ever used Nova to gain power was when he became Marx Soul.

I would never have expected Kirby to come off as so abrasive. Holy shit, this is ridiculous. I should try Kirby's Avalanche some time.
