Noise is ultimately dependent on the cooler on it. For AMD cards you might look into something like Sapphire or MSI for quiet coolers. ASUS AMD cards have shit noise and cooling so don't bother with those.

I'm on a 970, it's good but the memory did limit it under Windows 7 for newer games and the Anisotropic Filtering isn't as good on the Nvidia cards as it is on the AMD cards. If it's anything similar, it'll be great and the lower power usage would also be welcome. This Gigabyte GTX 970 outputs a lot of heat into the room due to the 3 fans it has.

Still a great card for the money, but yeah AMD fans always have to ruin every release with hype. Personally I just bought a 1080 for my new build but if I was more price constrained I'd have gotten a 480.
