Zelda General

is Link's Awakening 'best zelda'?
only Majora's Mask maybe surpasses it.
why has Nintendo struggled so hard with the series since Minish Cap?

You know what?

I disagree. It is my favorite of all top down zeldas, but ALBW was pretty good. Just more of the same which some people would dislike because they've played these games to death.

I'm currently playing all 2D top down zeldas. Finished the oracles, minish cap today and next up is Link's awakening.

I like oracles games more

No, La is the best zelda hands down still

Oracles destroy LA in every category except story

It's just the same as a Link to the Past and most other 2D Zeldas. Sure you can say it's the best one, but it hardly makes any difference.

i was going to try twilight princess until i saw the "connect a nunchuck" message. fuck you and your gimmicky ass bullshit nintendo.

2D Zelda > 3D Zelda

Fuck story and cutscenes

I find the Oracles to be better. LA is great though. I find LTTP, LA, and the Oracle games to be the pinnacle of 2D Zelda. Minish Cap and ALBW are ok but not as good. LoZ1 is hard to place but I like it a lot, just not as the top tier.

Link's Awakening is supposed to be really good.

I rather prefer the original. Seasons/Ages are okay, Majora's Mask is my favorite.

Just get the superior gamecube version then

Some 3D zeldas have better combat though.

LA has a better ambiance. More aggressively surreal, dreamlike.

LA was my first Zelda and it has huge nostalgic pull, but it's not the best Zelda. The smaller screen does limit what the game can do, like large multi-room/area puzzles (Eagle's Tower does this a bit, and it's the best dungeon in the game, along with Face Shrine).

It is a fantastic game though, but I probably would give the edge either to Zelda 1 or LttP.

3D I have flip-flopped a bit, but these days it's basically OoT, which in my mind is also best in the series.

>wii u

Why is Zelda using a pickaxe?

That's not Zelda, just some dwarf.

Just a crappy sword swiping animation. Still a good game though.

I remember when you could find Link's Awakening free on some fucking game site online, and play it right from there, but you couldn't save.

Shit was crazy.

...

What about the original?

Have to agree with these.

They are basically all the same so saying one is better doesnt mean much.

My favorite is probably oracle of seasons though

Zelda 1:
+Pretty good for people who like to explore and fuck around
+Pretty simple
-Wizrobes
-Combat is awfully limited
-Some of the hints given by NPCs don't really tell you anything you can understand

Zelda 2:
+Very good combat
+It's not a walk in the park
+It's not like the rest
-It's not a walk in the park
-It's not like the rest

ALTTP:
+Plenty of content
+Plenty of secrets
-Some dungeons get repetitive

LA:
+Pretty good story
-Inventory system is annoying

Oracles:
+Linked games
+Played together it's a pretty nice and long experience
+Puzzles are actually decent
-Most rings aren't all that useful

Minish Cap:
+Nice colorful graphics
+Kinstones
-It's the easiest

ALBW:
+Dungeons are pretty unique
+Replayability through different order of completion
-Very easy too, hero mode is not challenging
-Graphos not as good
-Worst villain

In terms of story, no game has had the impact Awakening did on me. I wouldn't put it up there as the best zelda of all time but its story is in my top 5 video game plots of all time. Maybe the top spot.

Oracle is the best Zelda game.

>Playing "where the fuck do I go" the game

I like the concept but I think most zeldas have improved in most aspects, except the exploration part.

Walking around trying to find new things instead of having some hat or fairy tell you where to go next is nice.

I have no clue how the fuck I beat Zelda 1 as a kid.

I had to have bombed every damn rock wall in search of [IT'S A SECRET TO EVERYONE].

Wizrobes weren't the worst; blue Darknuts were.

that shit is horrible. Tried playing it last month. Link is like 3 pixels tall.... so much backtracking and running around.

Fuck that game. 0/10

I still hate the wizrobe fuckers though they really did hurt my sanity

>the same

No. Here is "Turtle Rock" from LA and LTTP.

LTTP's dungeons are generic and boring as fuck with big empty rooms.

>"I liked the emphasis on combat" leads to the game with the worst combat in the series.

So does Zelda have a fanbase split with overhead and 3d the same way Castlevania has a split with classic and iga?
I'm genuinely curious.

get your eyes checked, it doesnt point at Windwaker

I love that kind.

Yeah. I never understood the amount of love ALTTP gets considering some of its dungeons were really boring.

I don't really discuss zelda or associate with fans of it but I do love the series and have played it since NES days.

I think Zelda transitioned to 3D exceptionally well and was one of the hallmark N64 games. 2D and 3D are both good games, and the games themselves have always been rather different from each other so it isn't a shock when one game isn't the same experience as another.

Boring combat is still better than boring combat with terrible controls.

SS's controls worked fine for me

your flowchart is designed like ass. the choices should be at the beginning of the next paths, not directly next to the games they're supposed to be helping you choose.

You could split it like this

People who love Zelda 2 and people who hate it
People who like Skyward Sword's controls and people who despise them
People who consider Majora's Mask is the best game and people who treat those other people like FFIX fans
And of course people who love 2D, and people who love 3D. An important distinction to be made considering that 3D zeldas share things in common like Z-targeting so you could put them in a specific group.

>Tfw like em all
>Think the only mediocre one is the first because NES limitations don't lend themselves well to top down exploration
>AoL onward all kick ass

Feels goodman

>start with OoT
Why? It's the same formula as Lttp

Actually, I'll let people here choose which to play next.

LA or ALBW?

youtube.com/watch?v=SOvyyiv8fHk

When my 11/12 year old ass played this, there was some point maybe 1/3 of the way through (random guess) where I literally couldn't progress any further. I remember searching and searching, going through all the zones multiple times trying to figure out how to go further. Never found out.

Anyone know what this might have been?

ALBW

2D Zelda > 3D Zelda

I still can't believe I held off playing LA for as long as I did. I think I at least tried every other zelda up to Spirit Tracks before I finally played LA and then it turned out to be my favorite in the series.

The only bullshit cryptic part that fucked everyone hard was this shit

>more emphasis on combat
>doesnt point to Souls Series

What a mess, dude

That kinda looks familiar. Maybe that's what it was.

I remember being stuck for a long time trying to figure out where to use the key to enter the waterfall dungeon (I think it's the fourth one).s

>everyone knows what a pols voice and a keese is
just need to use process of elimination

It's maybe the worst graph I've ever seen.

LA

I just want two things out of Zelda.
Majora's Mask Master Quest.
And something else like the Oracle games that feels like one big game with 20 fucking levels.

majora
planescape
la mulana
deus ex

these are excellent games that a rational person can play and enjoy, and are occasionally physically or mentally challenging, making them even more rewarding

THEY ARE NOT THE BEST ANYTHING GET YOUR HEAD OUT OF YOUR ASS

I agree with this. I would put MM ahead though. Funny how the Ganon free Zelda's end up as my favorites.

Placescape is some of the most overrated shit I've ever seen.
Granted, it's really good. It just shares the same fanbase New Vegas has

You seem pretty rustled over other peoples opinions, user.

>tfw kept just killing them randomly like a retard and eventually got through

Roll
Circle around
Attack

Circle around
Roll
Attack

I knew the names from the manual of the first game

There is such a thing as objective tastes, user, and you lack it.

Is triforce heroes even an actual zelda you can play on single player?

Or is it just another four swords in disguise?

There was also a mini boss fight that was hidden behind a bombable wall with no crack on it.

>majora
Nah, it's shit.

You can play it single player, but you have to switch between the 3 Links and it is very fucking awkward for some stages, not impossible, but very stupid.

childhood hero fcking ruined..

I liked how in Oracle of Ages playing the harp killed them instantly

This picture is shit and will always be shit. Zelda is such an easy series to go in chronological order for.

Jeez. Turtle Rock on LTTP sure didn't feel that simple when playing it as a kid.

LTTP's turtle rock may be a lot more underwhelming than LA's but don't forget that Ganon's tower comes right afterwards which is the best 2D Zelda dungeon imo.
LA has no equivalent to that.

Or any of the flutes, I figured that out on my most recent playthrough and used the fuck out of it.

Oracles are best Zeldas

LA's boss battles are also incredibly underwhelming. Everything from Kholdstare onward in LTTP can really fuck you up.

I love LA's Turtle Rock, it's a true labarynth, but the boss is the most piss easy shit in the game, outside of the eyeball you dash into repeatedly or Facade.
