It's pretty good. It's a balanced anime fighter very similar to Marvel 2. Small roster but every character is still unique.

It's best to nab it on sale now with all the DLC included and the new 2nd Encore shit.

I recommend this purchase.

It's okay. It's like most fighting games where having friends to play it with will do a great deal for the experience, unless you are super into the genre.

I can't handle it. The systems and everything are fine though. It's probably like $4 now during the sale and it's definitely worth that.

I'm sorry, you miss out on five (Big Band, Squigly, Eliza, Robo Fortune, Beowulf).

2nd Encore includes them all but isn't part of the sale, and that's $10.

how do I get even remotely good at this game, I've tried the tutorials but it's hard to put it into practice in the actual game (using controller)

Learn when to block, when to grab, and when to combo. Learn how far away you should be from your opponent given the match up. Watch videos to learn how to do combos.

Make your own combos, too. You can piece together your own simple series of hits for pretty much any character by going from light attacks to a heavy attack that launches your opponent into the air, and then following up in the same manner with an aerial combo. See where you can work in special moves and finish things with a blockbuster.

The only reason to play it is Beowulf

Shitty shallow game with shitty deviantart tier designs and artstyles with equally deviantart tier fetish shoehorning, with waifubaiting on top of it.

Skullgirls is honestly not too good since steam now has an assortment of good fighting games.
The only part it excels at is the tutorial, but the actual game feels tedious to play for me.
King of Figthers, Street Fighter, Blazblue and Guilty Gear are the obvious choices when it comes to fighting games on steam.
Yatagarasu is great but good luck finding someone to play against.
Melty Blood is excellent but the steam version has shit netplay (apparently they plan to patch it)

But Skullgirls is better then Melty Blood and Yatagarasu.

Plus its still relevant.

It's not like Skullgirls is the only game I play, although most other fighters I play are on MAME or PS2 and not on Steam.

The truth is cruel.
I actually backed Skullgirls because I wanted good fighting games on steam.
My wish got granted, when KoF XIII and GG came to steam.
Skullgirls turned out to be just not fun.

Its okay but only if you manage to get a friend to play it with. And its only fun until you get into the online multiplayer meta of 10 second long combos which turn the game into a boring muscle-memory test for both sides where if you fuck up, you get punished by not being able to play the game for 10+ seconds.

If you do decide to get that deep into the game and its 200 or so players: Overly long combos rule the gameplay so much that all the different ideas for character designs dont matter at all, only the latest longest combo string you find on some youtube video matters, youre not supposed to play the characters they were meant to be played. Just learn combos with them and shut up. The character tutorials show a lot of neat abilities the characters have but 90% of the time those moves dont actually matter unless they're part of some combo. So dont play Beowulf like a grappler even when the tutorial might say so, just spam the dash and do combos like with everyone else. Same with Filia, do not use the stances or zone out the enemy, just do those combos.

Nah, the gameplay is excellent.

Get your ass kicked online, and spend some lab time learning your bnbs. Also pick just one character and focus on them. It doesn't matter which one, just pick someone you like.
