FIG investment is illegal

>make a load of money on Kickstarter
>make a piece of shit game
>fuck up even more
>try to pretend you're doing fine
>make your own crowdfunding platform so you can grab even more cash
>tell everyone they can invest and make profit
>maths doesn't add up
>government tells you it's not legal enough and is going to fuck you up

I heard the Rock Band guys are in it too.

Tim Schafer pulling a scam? No fucking way.

the fuck is fig

...

>Tim Schafer goes to prison

cool

Based conman of 3.3.

With a name like Double Fine, who could be surprised?

I remember when the psychonauts 2 crowdfunding thing was going on someone made a video explaining how much of a blatant scam fig was, anybody know what i'm talking about?

So is Obsidian.

please tag your gore

More likely he'll be shut down and fined, bailed out by his little friends within the month, and then get right back to his usual schemes

Or, even more likely, nothing at all will happen

user I appreciate the effort but nobody's gonna get that reference.

Let me guess... It stands for Fund Indie Games?

you did, thats good enough for me

But look it lovely fruit yum yum yum, you want some?

Seriously it's fruit not gore.

>tfw reminded of that one tumblr image
Why did you have to remind me?

IDM

It depends. How much is he fucking with the IRS?

Hopefully enough for them to go after him

You don't need to fuck with the IRS much to get them thirsty. Racketeering, financial fraud, on top of tax evasion usually gets you pretty fucked if you aren't fortune 500.

Who would be gullible enough to think that funding Psychonauts 2 and shit like that would make them more money than they put in? Then again, this is Schafer's third god-damn kickstarter so fool me twice.

>mfw I backed Rock Band 4 PC port there

tricky Tim at it again

there are actually a handful of those videos these days. just google "fig psychonauts"

I think it was this one

>Mr shitface might actually get punished for his shit

It's about fucking time.

I wonder what kind of sleazy shit this dickhead pulled back before he was scamming the consumers directly

Kickstarting has, by far, been the biggest scam in the past 5 years in the digital media. I know nobody here will detest that statement, but can anyone tell me good things that have come out of kickstarter?
I'm genuinely curious.

Undertale, Chivalry, Shantae, Deakin's debut album, the list goes on

Me too ;_;7

>Fig

More like Fib.

SPACEBASE DF9 NEVER FORGET

Shovel Knight, Shantae, Yooka-Laylee

Consortium, Darkest Dungeon, Divinity Original Sin, Expeditions Conquistador, FTL, etc.

Just because most of the games on Kickstarter are shit, doesn't mean all of them are.

Kickstarter is actually the most reliable crowdfunding platform. For true bullshit you'd need to trawl indiegogo or gofundme.

Add to this Reaper Miniatures' numerous Bones sets, the White Wolf WOD reprints, various board games and RPGs, etc.

Startopia
Always Remember

I'm still waiting on Kickstarter to do something about the guy who abandoned his project two years ago. I file complaints every so often (cause they only allow you to file them like twice a year) and nobody has ever contacted me about it. Not even a courtesy response to show they're looking into my problem. And there's no email or phone number to get into touch with them, only the website complaint form.

They don't want to punish failed projects or scams cause it makes them look bad. Just stay away.

Is there any way I can get my money back from Mr Shitface?

man fuck broken age, this is the real disgusting shit. How the fuck anybody defends these scam artists after that I'll never understand.

>Filing complaints with kickstarter

You're going through the wrong people. Class action lawsuit.

You should read really their FAQ.

...

The list ends with Shovel knight. Kikestarter might be good for shit that's easier to produce. But things with unknown levels of cost like video game development, it's almost always going to end up being a scam and failure because if a person is competent enough to make a video game, then for the most part, they'd have been picked up by a company.

Tim Schaffer should have been a giant red flag.

Reported to the cyber police and the state police

I've reserved $20,000 and they haven't asked for anything yet...

I personally liked Wasteland 2 a lot, Divinity was less my type of game but very good as well and there's great hopes for the sequel. Shantae looks fucking amazing even though it took forever to come out, Shovel Knight was brilliant. Darkest Dungeon I haven't played and I've heard mixed stuff about it, but it's a product that looks like I'd love, and it's out, finished, and potentially good.

I have, though I admit it's been awhile. What's the relevant info? I know they don't have to refund my money and I've never expected it, it was only 60 bucks like 4 years ago. But I'm pretty sure they're still supposed to do something about abandoned projects.

>$20,000
nigga are you fucking retarded? With that type of money to """invest""" you'd think you'd understand the basics of RoI enough to realize what a scam it was from an actual investment standpoint.

You seriously may as well flip a coin and margin trading on FOREX for a better ROI.

Moral of the story: Don't. Fuck. With. The. IRS.

Call a lawyer instead

>tfw you're never getting your boxed copy or documentary
>tfw no is going to buy that shit from you anyway

>people with millions of dollars and years of investment experience won't even invest 1% of it in these hacks and frauds

>and you morons still gave them your money anyway

You deserve every cent they robbed from you, and you're never getting any of it back.

I got reminded of when in the school bus some kids asked me if I liked indian figs (name of a comedian couple) and I told them yes and that my grandpa went to india and always brought some home

Well go on post it

>A man sits in a dark office of the IRS building
>the torn up remains of his $10,000 Broken Age backer rewards in a pile
>"I'm going to issue you a double fine" he whispers

Don't get me wrong, I'm not back-pedaling or arguing that these aren't good games, but besides yooka-laylee, I haven't seen anything that challenges the """""""purpose""""""" of kickstarter. I'd like to see more genre-breaking games that are worthy of having others put a cut of their money in to see the final product, but, in my opinion, most games I've seen have something completely identical to some other indie game devs work that they made in their basement over the weekend (without all the polish). I do love me some Shovel Knight though.

They don't.

>Creators are responsible for their projects. When you back a project, you're trusting the creator to do a good job, so if you don't know them personally or by reputation, do a little research first. Kickstarter doesn't evaluate a project's claims, resolve disputes, or offer refunds — backers decide what's worth funding and what's not.

If you have a problem and you can't resolve it with the project owner, a class action lawsuit is often the only way to get anything done.

I haven't actually given them any money yet.

Going into the IRS is such a creepy experience. There's always just 3 people jammed in a back room of a big empty building who hate their lives and don't give a damn at all about you being there. Had to wait for my ticket to be called when there was only one other person there.

IRS does not fuck around, they can and will come to your home to perform an audit.

With a Tactical Unit in tow.

>Kickstarting has, by far, been the biggest scam in the past 5 years in the digital media.
>No d-don't get me wrong, I'm not saying it's all bad! I-it just doesn't fullfil my completely arbitrary standards!
>But I'm not backpedaling!

I don't get it, you signed a thing promising them the money when they actually get their legal shit sorted out? I can't imagine they'll let investors just walk away with their money without a real clause.

Even a person with basic understanding of game sales and the metrics they provided with their own calculator would understand that Psychonauts 2 needs to perform _BEYOND REASONABLE EXPECTATIONS_ before you make a penny.

Game dev is a highly risky speculative "investment" to begin with.

...

Have you even seen Divinity?

>Pic fucking related.

Im betting FIG is like some reassurance for the bank when they go and get a fucking loan.

Go and play Original Sin then

I put that in the forefront because people don't know how to read and will only take the first couple of words to make an assumption on the rest of the post while I'll I'm trying to do is reach a convention of understanding with others and acknowledge that the products made had been enjoyable in one way or another. Kickstarter is still a scam so long as people continue putting in money to indulge in these lame experiences that offer nothing new when that's ideally what a kickstarter campaign should be doing.
Yeah, and I think Divinity is a good game. It just doesn't present an experience that you couldn't indulge yourself in from the many other turn-based RPG's.

>that you couldn't indulge yourself in from the many other turn-based RPG's
...so?

Tim Schafer decided he didn't like the fact that he had to give 10% of his 3.3 to kickstarters, so he made his own platform.

Does anyone actually still trust tim after all that happened?

I imagine tumblrshit and idiots still do
>so quirky, lol

...

As stated about 4 times; I don't see the idea of kickstarter as a bad thing, nor the games as bad, What I'd like to see is people with ideas like (forgive me) Five Nights At Freddy's where conventions are thrown out and the developer is experimenting with new ideas. Genre's are in the process of expiring and it's time for some new experiences to come around that challenge players in new and interesting ways.

I don't feel intensely strong about this argument and I'm more just entertaining the topic of discussion.

Tumblrkin and the rest of his audience can't say anything bad about him because he dislikes people they also dislike.

Not only did they trust him, but when he had the gall to turn around and literally ask for another 3.3(check out the goal), they gave him 3.8.

fig.co/campaigns/psychonauts-2

>I don't see the idea of kickstarter as a bad thing
But only when it's your personal idea of what kickstarting should be.

Are people forgetting about Lisa and Bloodstained or are those shit now too

>Instead, all funds will go into Fig’s working capital and then managed via development advances.
>The company is also instituting milestone-related disbursements.
Boy this won't be incredibly easy to secretly shift funds around or anything!

Well it's a good thing that I HAVE NEVER EVER GIVEN MONEY TO ANY KICKSTARTER PROJECTS or I would be really mad.

>can anyone tell me good things that have come out of kickstarter?

The games I've backed have been hit or miss, but the physical products I've backed have been pretty nice.

>Schafer is arrested
>while in prison he scams prisoners out of cigarettes and shivs

I mean yeah, pretty much. It's not my cup of tea, but I'd love for it to be a platform for crazy people to get there ideas funded.

>It just doesn't present an experience that you couldn't indulge yourself in from the many other turn-based RPG's.
[citation needed]

yeah this is the good shit

jesus christ its like babys first money laundering scheme

Fig isn't kickstarter, moron. Sometimes I think the majority of Sup Forums is fucking dyslexic.

Hitler was right.
