Nah, DOOM 3 is pretty shit, no matter which edition you're playing.
The game itself relies on jump scares which just grow tiresome with time with the plot being just utter shit, and the BFG edition just kills whatever little atmosphere the game had before while somehow making the game look worse.
DOOM 3 is the result of what happens when you just let Carmack run the show. It was more or less just a tech demo for idTech 4's lighting and nothing else. It obviously wasn't a DOOM game, and it wasn't even a good horror or FPS game.
Thank fuck they rebooted the series, otherwise we would've just gotten another idTech engine demo but with a COD skin.
The new DOOM obviously does showcase the strengths of the idTech 6 engine, but not in a way that the engine takes priority over the game. That's how game design should be.
>DOOM 3 is the result of what happens when you just let Carmack run the show
then explain quake 3
I don't care I loved Doom 3.
He can't. He probably couldn't even begin to explain what he specifically did not like about Doom 3. I remember how angry the other gets used to get in grade school when the teacher would say "but WHY do you think that?" War never changes.
...
Quake 3 is what happens when you let the community run the show.
id knew that most people just played Quake for the MP, and it was also during a time where arena shooters were in their heyday.
Quake 3 wasn't made to be some sort of flashy tech demo, it was made to be a game, and a damn good one at that.
...
Quake 3 was top tier technology at the time, just like doom 3 was. So by same standards it literally was a tech demo
>doom 3 apologists
Holy shit, not even him. He clearly explained why the game was bad. The horror was weak, the gunplay was boring, and the levels were linear and forgettable
...
I'm waiting.
Yes, but the game was not centered around the engine's tech. Not once did Quake 3 essentially make you stop and admire its lighting or texture work like DOOM 3 did.
Quake 3 was gameplay first, technology second, whereas DOOM 3 was technology first, gameplay second.
haha I'm just kidding it's still shit
The problem with Doom 3 is hindsight: Both the first FEAR and Dead Space games take this game's concepts and do it better.
there literally isnt a better fps horror game than doom 3 except maybe cry of fear
But FEAR is not a horror shooter, it just has spooky moments between otherwise more standard shooting.
4 to a lesser extent.
I've come to learn that Classic REfags are some of the worst fans imaginable. They will just not accept anything that's not their classy and sophisticated ammo conservation game. Even the early games had rocket launcher bullshit in it. Get fucked.
Like the old Doom games then? They were action above all else.
Yes.
>The horror was weak, the gunplay was boring, and the levels were linear and forgettable
So like the original
No.
I bet you faggots loved d44m
kys
doom 3 was the worst, slow paced, try hard horror, FUCKING FALL DAMAGE. kys
Banjo Kazooie Nuts and Bolts. I was always a party game/shooter type of kid and even though I had an N64, adventure games and platformers were never my thing. The only platformer/adventure game I ever liked back then was Blynx Time Cat and I think that was purely because I had so little time to do anything besides play Halo, mostly due to playing so much Halo. So I never had a lot of experience with the original Banjo games, but N&B is one of my favorite 360 games.
I liked it a lot, thank you very much. At least it understood that Doom should be an action game.
2 > 1 > 3 > 4
They are all really good though
Yes you autistic faggot
Max Payne III
Doom isn't painkiller with brootal memes
so it's better than the older games?
It's only hated because it's not muh traditional Star Fox game
Doom also isn't a shitty System Shock wannabe. Doom 1 is still the best, but I enjoy doom 2016 for what it is.
And DOOM isn't shitty jumpscares with a story that takes itself too seriously, so I don't get what you're getting at.
At least the new DOOM plays closer to the older DOOM games, and that's all we've been asking for since DOOM 3 shat into existence.
There's a lot to not like in DOOM 3
They went for a more horror focused approach and yet never quite committed all the way. The scares have very little happening visually, the most you get is the room turning red or a pile of boxes moving. There's no actual horror present in this horror game. What further reduces any actual ability to scare is that there's no element of surprise, every enemy in the game announces its presence with a giant light show and an overbearing chant sound effect that gets old where you hear it so much that it continuously clips into itself when multiple enemies spawn.
Another point against the game is how samey it all looks. Since they decided to drastically limit the amount of time you spent in Hell, they instead relied on the mars base. Since the outside sections were very limited, you were stuck inside a what appeared to be the same corridors and rooms for almost the entire game. There was nothing visually interesting to take your mind off the fact that you were doing the exact same thing as you were 8 hours ago. All the facilities, laboratories and infrastructures shared the same key visuals, so they all blended together in a huge uninspired mess. Compare that to any other DOOM game where you can differentiate almost on a level to level basis and I found it to be a very drab and boring experience.
Of course there's personal "not muh" grievances to be had as well, game speed, implementation of reloading, forced walls of text and video fluff to watch. But they don't really count since the thread isn't taking into account the rest of the series.
The game also ran out of ideas very quickly. How many times were we guided by a turret? How many times did we pick up an item, only to be swarmed by monster closets on all sides? They couldn't even restrict the crane puzzle to a single instance.
It's better than Doom 3, shitter.
RE 5 and 6 are shit for reasons that extend well beyond their lack of spookiness.
I didn't like it because it stopped being well designed in the second half. It was clear that this game was rushed, but everything up until the beach and cloud temple areas was pretty solid.
this is true
on itself its a decent game, but I'll never forget them for not delivering something much closer to 1 & 2 which are among top 5 games of all time for me
>Doom 1 is still the best
but that's just wrong, 2 has more content and the best levels out of any official doom games not to mention most complex. vast majority of mods also use it
you forgot
>DARKNESS = SCARY
the most popular mod for this game was the duct tape mod- it literally put a flashlight on your weapon so you could see the environment you were in
You don't know good games then.
Doom 3 is a perfectly paced game.
One of the best FPS games ever made.
5 was good, six was not.
Coming from someone who started with 4/5/6
isn't MP3 just endless cutscenes?
6 is one of the best tps of all time.
I wasn't a fan of the Doom 2 level design: many of them feel like puzzles rather than the more labyrinthine designs of the first game. Although I will agree that, with WAD support, Doom 2 is better, but I prefer the base game of Doom 1.
And also completely ruins the entire atmosphere of the game. Bravo.
Its 5 minutes of kick ass gameplay for each 5 minutes of boring cut scenes. It doesnt bother anyone much the first time but replaying it when the vast majority of cut scenes are unskippable is a real Payne in the ass
Thats Max Payne
the Trite parts are absolutely horrifying for an arachnophobic
no its not
Max Payne is Top tier but not the best
>2 has the best levels out of any official doom game
>Its 5 minutes of kick ass gameplay for each 5 minutes of boring cut scenes.
That sounds fucking terrifying
>2 has more content and the best levels out of any official doom games
KYS
Yet I can guarantee you were one of them decrying the change they took for 7. Me though? The only Resi games I haven't liked were Survivor and ORC. And that's because they were shit.
>downtown
>industrial zone
>refueling base
>not greatest of all goat
Shit taste
Yes but the cutscenes are actually good since its a rockstar game
The game is great in terms of gameplay, but having to see every single cutscene over and over again due to no option to skip is just painful.
I get why R* made them that way (background loading/YOU GET TO SEE THE WEAPONS YOU HAVE IN THE CUTSCENE), but as a result, it makes replays of the game a total slog.
It's definitely a great game, but a game you'll only really play once.
>didn't like survivor
but won't 7 just be Survivor 2? Watch Ark Thompson be the main character again or something.
it's not actually that bad, it just feels like it; the story is about a bunch of fucking brazilians who are just straight-up rich douchebags who party all the time and the game acts like you're just supposed to care about them while Max monologues about being drunk and washed up
then one gets kidnapped, you dive, you excavate the skulls of 10 men before you hit the ground, and then max gets up and monologues about how shit he is some more.
How very, very, very embarrassing for you.
So 3?
The first two acts were good, everything else was absolute shit.
I said best levels out of any official doom, not how many it had
Those 3 are what comes to mind
I haven't played Max Payne 3 but if the cutscenes are as shit as the ones in GTAV then fuck that.
speaking of max payne 3 what does the season pass have? base game is 5 bucks
I wouldn't call it great, but it's a good game and it doesn't deserve the amount of hate it gets
there was a season pass? Just checked it and its all MP stuff. Never played the MP but last I checked neither does anyone else
well if it's only mp stuff i don't give a shit. thought it had some singleplayer behind it
I've been replaying Doom 3 recently (haven't played since 2005?) and all of these points match up to how I feel about the game so far.
The main thing I dislike about Doom 3 is that there's no where to move while you have demons spawning at their scripted points, it becomes a memory game after dying continuously. The maps are so closed in and there are way too many trip mines of demon spawn points and closets.
Doom 3 with sikkmod is fucking great.
is that the one that adds additional hell levels, better sounds and alt fire? yea it's great
Then they'll have to cut out a major feature for the american release because they've had another mass shooting. If they're going to do another fucking Survivor they have to do the best bit.
I do love Doom 3, maybe even more than 4 but not without the flashlight mod or BFG edition
I don't give a fuck if it's not doom enough for some people, and I do play brutal doom
I do find brutal doom to be better than 4 and 3 though
nah, I hate diablo 3 regardless of whether it wields the diablo title or not, just like I didn't like torchlight despite being made by one the guys that made diablo 1
Path of Exile is what I go to, but it sure is full of fucking bullshit
flashlight mod/bfg ruins the atmosphere of the game though.
it took up to RE6 for the games to have good control, I literally find RE4 unplayable now
Dead Space 2 is the one that nailed it perfectly
and in terms of oldschool 3rd person cinematic camera. it took up to fucking RE:Outbreak 2 to have it good (but still flawed)
let's count shall we?: 1,2,3,CV, 1(remake), 0, Outbreak
that's 7 titles it took, and only 1 game as it
nuDoom is far better than doom 1+2
okay
nope, unskippable cutscenes suck not matter what game
(I know you can technically skip them but not before waiting a long ass time for something else to load)
personally I hated it without it, sorry
i think you shouldn't even have bothered with doom 3 in that case. atmosphere is why people like it.
>doom 3
>belonging in its franchise
Yeah, Doom 3 belongs in the trash instead.
You liked it entirely because of darkness?
well I do love it, the way I play it
i liked it because i had to choose between visibility and protection. it's a good compromise for a horror action game where things wouldn't normally be anywhere near as scary when you can just kill them.
>Hold down the fire button and move around
I loved LP1 and 2 but the mechanics are nowhere near as good as Max Payne
Would Fallout 4 have been a better game if it was just called something generic like Apocalypse 2077?
The atmosphere of the game is that you're in a dark, half destroyed, shitty, isolated space base. Having a flashlight doesn't change any of that.
Nah, this game is trash by its own standards.
then why did they put it in with the bfg edition?
RE6 is one of the most mediocre games I've ever played. It doesn't do anything particularly poorly, but it does nothing well.
because it was made for casual console audience, pc still has original doom 3
But it doesn't work when the lack of visibility annoys rather than scares you. With or without flashlight it just isn't a great horror game, sorry to break it to you.
