He is a pretentious asshole and that invalidates everything he has done
Elijah Lee
Like Kojima isn't?
The Witness, unlike all the bullshit philosophizing in MGS V, has the pretentious bits as secretly hidden mood enhancers that are totally optional and some even have brilliant interactive secrets. MGS just has hours of cutscenes to shove down your throat; The Witness has only two, and they're endings.
Lucas Anderson
>the gameplay twist in The Witness what did he mean by this pissjugg?
Joseph Cox
Who?
James Cooper
If you don't know it, seriously get out of this thread until you play it.
It's something you realize you can do that literally changes the way you look at the world. It's not spoonfed to you and I played 20 hours and got the regular ending before it was... spoiled for me by assholes on Sup Forums.
Nathaniel Lee
American Kojima
Aaron Jackson
You play as someone playtesting a game also called "The Witness."
Henry White
He's a literal autist who took philosophy 101 and sees himself as Socrates, and doesn't realise nothing he's said or done is in anyway inspired.
Colton Davis
>The Witness has only two, and they're endings. william shakespeare wrote his entire name in backwards in the dialogue and names of all his plays but you have to skip a different amount of letters from the beginning and end of the plays and also you have to sing the notes that the letters annotate rather than actually read the letters out loud. he wasn't ever born and most certainly not in the back of an old radioshack next to a mall, some carmack wannabe saw to that.
Joseph Walker
That's not the gameplay twist and besides that it isn't as concrete as that.
Asher Edwards
blow is an insufferable hipster faggot who makes boring puzzle games and hates video games as a medium
the fact that he can't manage money well and cant make enough money from the trash he shits out should not be in his favor
enjoy your bad opinion
Leo Jenkins
Ohh, so the environmental puzzles you mean.
Robert Foster
Is the 'twist' that you can do puzzles in-world?
I don't know how it's a twist if it was shown off before the game even came out.
Julian Barnes
What? Braid sold shitloads and The Witness outsold it in less than a week.
Thomas Davis
why are you such a stickler for a tickler? I finished the game ya dingus, enviro puzzles aren't all that
but if you're witnessing him play his game, and you're game is called the witness because that's what you're doing, and his game is also called the witness... does the game also stare into you?
Ethan Morris
If you actually discover them for yourself instead of having it spoiled for you by careless idiots on Sup Forums, it's mindblowing, and some of them are insanely clever.
Elijah Rodriguez
meh, I didn't fall for it
Kayden Garcia
>it's mindblowing
For a small mind, it might be. I pirated it and discovered them myself, they were not that special, and the fucking boat was tedious as hell.
Robert Walker
I'm pretty sure it's called "The Witness" because it's a game about perspective and you're just being a faggot.
Grayson Martinez
I assume you are talking about Phantom Pain when you say it wasn't finished. And if you believe that it isn't how it is supposed to be then you don't know Kojima, and if you don't know Kojima then you can't very well call this nobody American Kojima.
Nicholas Watson
is that Benedict crumblepatch
Gabriel Myers
>spoiled for you >he didn't get to play the behind closed doors demo at e3 two years ago
Ryder Price
Why are you concerned with eating the less stinky turd of two turds? Just dont eat turd fucking faggot, also dont ever make another thread.
Isaiah Wilson
>that entire speech
Justin Rogers
No, it's Bentdick Thumbinsnatch.
Luis Williams
At least MGSV was fun to play at times. The Witness is a puzzle game with maybe two unique and interesting puzzles.
Isaac Jackson
>40+ minutes >no visuals >never gets interesting this is what you get for cracking the most trickiest nut up JoBlows sleeve. no story, no lore, just 40+ minutes of absolute bullshit.
Dylan Ross
>20 hours and finished the game without noticing even one of all the fucking obvious in-world connection points The only twist here is how you're able to breathe long enough without assistance to tell us how fucking retarded you are.
James Roberts
Somehow I doubt you or anyone on Sup Forums solved the game blind. It's extremely spoilable.
Also, best part of the game right here
Chase Wilson
Yeah but he made a cheap 2d puzzle game with no gameplay so who gives a shit?
Nathan Morris
This is a pretty good review of The Witness for anyone interested, and I agree with his idea that it's just a game of Jonathan Blow fucking with us.
wait, wasn't this the guy who was all like "don't pirate my game boo hoo"?
Charles White
...
Asher Rogers
So he's a hack?
Jace Bennett
>not that you'd know
Jack Edwards
you know- what stands out to me the most in my memory of that womans lecture is the pressing, whirring silence in between when she spoke and the smacking of her lips, and the sort of too loud sound of her breathing in before she said anything. that's the only thing that stands out in memory, that and that it was some budhist message or another.
So whats the twist? I'm never gonna play the Witness
Samuel Ortiz
Seeand
Bentley Harris
Fuck, my link got messed up. Go to 27:45 to witness the true "genius" of the Witness.
John Flores
I absolutely loved The Witness, the best game this year so far for me
Easton Rogers
Can we get a phrenologist in here to explain what the fuck is wrong with this guy's head? Holy shit, just look at that dude.
Michael Morgan
>linking that review My intercourse-performing negro.
Austin Stewart
It's pretty much that the lines you draw aren't actually confined to the puzzle panels, but the whole island is filled with them. It feels really eye opening to find out since you start looking at the environments in a completely new way
Carter Walker
So the twist is that there is more puzzles than the ones that the game shows? Oh that sounds better
Daniel Rodriguez
This doesn't make much sense. There's not that much to "get" in Witness, it's just fun solving interesting puzzles
Parker Jenkins
>about an hour waiting we /Takeshi's Challenge/ now?
Jack Nguyen
The whole game conditions you to look at things in certain ways, then does a twist in each logic set that requires you to look at it differently.
It's like a Metroid game where the world is gated by your own intuition and understanding. Everything is solvable at first glance, but you just have to understand what you're looking at.
Everything is hidden in plain sight.
Even the position of the clouds in the sky relative to where you are standing is significant.
Wyatt Johnson
>It's like a Metroid game where the world is gated by your own intuition and understanding This is the best way to describe the idea of the game. I think it's a genuinely fantastic concept
Nathan Bailey
>getting shit on by some youtube guy who wrote up and recited an entire report on something you've spent a lot of time to create
jesus feels bad man
Luis Kelly
>makes shit pretentious 'pretentious game' >he's the american kojima OP stop with the bait, all of kojimas games have good innovative gameplay and have silly fun stories
Xavier Garcia
The only outstanding thing about the witness is the cleverness but making a game with scripted shit everywhere isn't really a novelty or impressive.
Kayden Morales
>scripted shit
?
Julian Ross
Did I miss a secret twist in The Witness or something? Nothing blew my mind. Sure, it's a better "twist" than MGSV:PP's, but that's only because PP's was done poorly. If it was done properly, the PP twist would've been god tier.
Is there another twist in the Witness other than the VR IRL one? I can't be bothered to replay it.
Carter James
Kojima isn't an insufferable douchebag like this guy. Kojima has a sense of humor and can take a joke.
Hudson Roberts
>literally changes the way you look at the world
OH PLEASE
Blow, get the fuck out of here you fuckfairy
Isaac Price
The Witness is actually hilarious though and in great fun.
It has the entire 10-minute ending of a Tarkovsky film in it, with a lingering camera zoom over no action, and there's a puzzle hidden in the frame, over the film. That's badass.
Asher Reed
Did you see this for what it was, after you walked across her body?
No, no you fucking didn't.
There's even a secret on the poster of the game.
Noah Collins
Just because The Witness references a great artist does not make it great art.
Julian Lopez
>literally changes the way you look at the world lol literally kill yourself
Jason Thompson
helo rato
Christian Reed
I think he means the game world and not actual world, in which case I would agree
Lincoln Perez
Did you know Boyhood took 12 years to make?!
Henry Gray
The fact it makes an explicit and direct connection between the mediums, and the implication this has for film as a (inferior) medium, alongside everything else does make it great art. It is as brilliant as anything else to find an interactive secret hidden in a film excerpt.
Oliver Barnes
I meant game world, obviously, and no shit because your entire understanding and progress is based on how many ways you can perceive each obstacle.
Camden Butler
>Notch became a big faggot >every once in awhile gets a good burn or two on twitter
I'm so conflicted I wish he didn't sell out and cry about 1st world problems because at heart he could've been one of the best indie devs
Tyler Flores
Is this the thread where we all act as pretentious as possible?
Chase Wood
Okay then, I'm glad you found something in it I didn't.
Ian Thompson
That burn isn't even good. It doesn't relate to anything JBlo said.
This is a good burn.
Thomas Morgan
Because pretending to shoot guys is fun, pretending to do puzzles isn't, and vice versa.
Jason Cooper
You don't "pretend" to solve the puzzles in The Witness. You actually fucking solve them.
You do pretend to shoot dudes in dude-shooting games.
Jack Evans
>informed critical analysis is bad
Fuck off, Jonathan. Go make Braid 2, you 1-hit wonder hack piece of shit.
Jacob Wright
>Ugh, violence in videogames is so toxic and problematic. Sigh, when will the industry make deep, sophisticated games about social issues?
Leo Martinez
Are you physically interacting with an object? No? Then you are pretending
Carson Lopez
>This man is the American Kojima So he's a hack?
Thomas Bell
Puzzles are mental activities. The representation or medium is irrelevant. You solve the puzzles in The Witness just as much as if they were printed on paper, and even moreso.
Nathaniel Bennett
How the fuck is that a good burn?
He's just being a cunt and attempting to shit on shooters like he is too high brow for them or something.
What's the difference between Jonathan Blow and my penis?
Nothing. They're both bald pricks.
Bentley Hall
I didn't know that it was wrong to enjoy different games for different things, thanks Jonathan!
Ayden Murphy
I don't fucking get this moron. I live in a country where people either play Fifa or games with guns, and there hasn't been a mass shooting since 1975. That's BEFORE videogames. And it's not because "the people don't have guns" that's bullshit. At least 20% of homes in the capital own at least one handgun, gypsies carry guns, niggers carry guns, there's gun stores on main avenues in most major cities.
The mass shooting problem isn't with videogames, it's the PEOPLE. American people are DISEASED. American mass shooters don't mass shoot because they play gun games. They play gun games because they WANT to mass shoot.
William Evans
>Shooting guys are mental activities. The representation or medium is irrelevant.
Gavin Butler
Also, the people who carry out mass shootings generally carry them out in States that have more strict firearms restrictions (Like California) or places that would not have ample access to them.
Landon Diaz
>American people are DISEASED.
You're a moron.
Some people have mental illness and easy access to weapons. That's probably the biggest factor.
others are terrorists and/or ideologically driven. They also have easy access to weapons
Jason Lee
Why did you make a thread about Wesker's son?
Jason Stewart
that's one of the major points of Braid actually
Eli Hernandez
don't know how you could ever call that mind blowing. it's an "oh wow that's really cool" moment. but what's actually done in the game with it is pretty lame imo. because it doesn't lead to more puzzly stuff, just "find a way to stand in the right position and then trace a line" stuff which is super lame imo.
Zachary Howard
man this woman doesnt get it. I can't even really say anything else... she just doesn't get video games you know?
Jack Myers
What's the gameplay twist? I never played that shit.
Nicholas Carter
The very definition of a pretentious douchebag. He's a living caricature of a navel-gazing hipster "artist".
Charles Perry
by the time you notice it you will have walked all over the island several times doing tons of different puzzles. all of a sudden you will notice a weird formation in the environment (probably a different one for every player) and you realize it's a puzzle that is embedded into the rock and tree formatinos of the area you're currently standing in or whatever. and then you realize those fucking puzzles are EVERYWHERE and I mean EVERYWHERE. you will walk back from the beginning and start seeing puzzles in the environment everywhere.
it's pretty damn cool but wouldn't really call it mindblowing.
James Ross
>my taste > your taste Wouldn't be surprised if he browsed Sup Forums
