Will Bloodstained become just as much of a blunder Mighty No. 9 was? Did the demo prove otherwise?
Will Bloodstained become just as much of a blunder Mighty No. 9 was? Did the demo prove otherwise?
>miriam's face when not manlet
I honestly don't know why people are saying Bloodstained looks good. It looks slow and uninspired.
>slow
Castlevania-likes are about exploration, not speed
>uninspired
It's inspired by Castlevania.
Maybe Symphony of the Night was the same then, given how everyone wants the game to emulate it.
I don't think it'll be that big of a hit but I think it'll at least be a good game
It already looks better than Mighty No. 9.
Literally every Castlevania Iga worked on except for Harmony of Dissonance starts out slow with improved movement and faster skills coming later.
Nothing will be as much of a blunder as MN9.
That said, Bloodstained is shaping up to be average-mediocre.
The demo proved it will outdo MN9. The 16 minutes I spent playing the demo provided me with more entertainment than playing an hour of the completed Mighty No 9
The demo proved otherwise. It's pretty fun so far.
Maybe if it wasn't 3D, people would of been okay with it more.
>slow
If anything it's too fast. There's not enough recovery on backdashes.
When is Alucard coming back?
Someone described the design of the project as two parts Symphony of the Night, one part Aria/Dawn of Sorrow, and one part Order of Ecclesia.
Where does the Order of Ecclesia come to play?
Keep crying please.

...
Power absorption.
The gameplay felt pretty good for an alpha.
The graphics on the backgrounds look bad, but this has already been discussed to death.
>mistakes_were_made.png
He actually said he thought the macaroni was delicious and it was absolutely like nothing he'd ever imagined in today's update.
>yfw you didn't back Bloodstained
...
Is it really that bad?
That seems strange. The power absorption seems to be more in line with AoS/DoS than OoE. You don't have to hold up to absorb or some nonsense like that. Soul comes out, Soul goes in.
So yeah, two parts SoTN, one part AoS/DoS seems more like the ticket.
...
I think what this game deserves is a revamp on some of the gameplay. Why not have a 3rd dimension to the exploration like in this pic?
The real part is the cute lady with a nice back.
I'd say it's improved a lot since then, even the update right afterward was a lot better.
There's no 3D exploration there. All you'd do is run forward and jump up on that ledge where the railing is missing.
No and yes.
Bloodstained looks better than MN9 already, with just an alpha out.
This is the difference between a creator and a business man making a game.
...
Maybe she got some tips from Juste Belmont
Apparently the backers are enjoying the demo, so it's already doing way better than Mighty No. 9.
Yooka-Laylee looks good, Bloodstained looks good, it would appear Mighty No. 9 is the anomaly in terms of fuckups.
Would it be wrong to assume people are smarter about Kickstarters now, and the really bad ones are pretty mostly from the original Kickstarter boom, where people were naive and easier to be fooled compared to now?
Also, where can a non-backer get the demo?
I can wait to buy it if it's good.
Not backing is never a bad thing for Kickstarter games.
...
Unfortunately, you do miss out on Backer exclusive items and areas. There's even a boss fight you will miss.
You fight Iga, so nothing special
The Bloodstained Kickstarter closing stream was comfy as fuck.
It had drunk IGA and Ben Judd yelling "Die monster!" and "Objection!" at each other constantly, whipping candles, and Bismarck Kappa III. It had the rush of raising a million dollars in the last hour. It was fantastic.
I truly feel sorry for anyone who wasn't a part of the campaign.
You know we'll get that modded in within a day, though.
You can still back the game to get it before July 5th I believe. Otherwise, I'm sure a lurking user has a demon on hand.
>not wanting to fight Iga
That's like the best part of backing.
This.
>My face when I discovered how to triple slash
>My face when I one-cycled the boss on my first try because of it.
You can get the demo if you back it and complete your backer survey (your email address, shipping address, what versions of the game you want, etc.) by July 8th.
...
What has Iga ever not delivered on?
Fuck you, Bloodstained is looking great.
>yfw you backed Mighty No 9 instead
Castlevania Judgement was pretty fucking bad and ultimately what killed his career at Konami. But it was also a fighting game and not at all the kind of game he or his team were used to working on, so it's not really applicable here.
>2008
Man, it's eight years old already?
I don't think he ever misrepresented what it was, though. We knew about the art style and the character designs from the start. We knew it was a fighting game. He made a bad game, it happens. He never tried to claim it was something that it wasn't.
I actually liked Judgement and thought it was decent aside from character designs.
I would kill someone to get it at an Evo, I want to see high-level play of it.
How come Bloodstained is looking much better than Mighty No 9 if it's made by the same company?
>eyy, ma! i posted it again!
>Not including Peter Mollynose
It has a competent director. Makes a big difference.
Because Inticreates had to deal with poor management and Comcept's ineptitude holding them back on Mighty No. 9, which isn't the case here.
It's a good thing my Shantae isn't grouped with those rejects.
Iga has worked within tight budgets in the past, forges swords and hunts monsters professionally.
Inafune can draw Mega Man OCs, that's about it.
>One of the stretch goals for Bloodstained was a ring forged by hand by Iga
>I will never be able to afford one
>Not wanting to fight a jpeg of iga with bat wings
The budget for Bloodstained isn't even terribly tight. Iga has a publisher that pledged to match whatever the Kickstarter raised. He'll probably end up with a 10-12m budget or so.
It certainly isn't looking like a 12m budget game as of now... though I have no idea how long these things take from the ground up.
I was thinking about it. Thinking of doing the dinner with Ifa thing. Problem is, it didn't include airfare or accommodation, so it probably would've wound up being like 20k.
He was planning to secure ~$5m in outside funding if the $500k Kickstarter was successful. He got $5.5m from KS, effectively doubling his original budget.
Meanwhile guy with a shit eating grin delivers.
Mighty No. 9 is not indicative of every crowdfunded game ever.
It looks fine. Yooka-Laylee looks great. Shantae looks great.
Ini-Creates both part of the same team.
>These two games that aren't out prove crowd funding is great
Holy fuck, this.
Every Kickstarter game is not MN9, Sup Forums. That's like saying that all restaurants are bad because you got food poisoning at a restaurant once.
Why is Sup Forums so autistic when it comes to crowdfunding?
>this one game that flopped proves crowdfunding is awful
See? I can do that too.
I don't really blame him for that. Konami wanted a quick Wii cash in, and came to his team to make it, not the other way around.
What kickstarter proved is that Inafune is literally a liar and a con man.
Fuck that dude, seriously.
This, and it was retarded. Castlevania was always niche. People who played them by and large weren't likely to play fighting games. It was a bad idea on Konami's part, and in true Japanese fashion, they through Iga under the bus.
Shovel Knight
Risk of Rain
FTL
Superhot
Gotta shitpost for those sweet, sweet (you)s.
>a liar and a con man.
How? Just because of one overly ambitious project and some unforseen problems?
He's not a liar or a conman, just incompetent and a poor businessman.
I've only heard bad things about superhot
I'd much prefer it.
It's just a longer version of the demo. I think people expected a huge campaign and "real" graphics, not proof of concept stuff that was carried into the final game. But they didn't say it would be anything more than just a longer version of the demo so I'm fine with it.
I wonder how much of mythos will be in this game, with all the holy and demonic things.
We already got crosses.
DAMN IT, THAT LOOKS FUCKING GOOD.
They've already detailed a backstory about a guild of alchemists fucking everything up,a castle pulled from hell itself, and all of the enemies are from the Ars Goetia.
>Castlevania was always niche.
Mainstream during the 8-16 bit eras. Niche after that.
They should have just made something that made use of the motion controller.
Ironically they did make a game all about motion controls. And then made it exclusive to arcades. It was basically something like Dragon Quest Swords, but with the option to use a whip or magic.
So I imagine the christian elements will be in there as well. They stated that the game is also set during the Industrial Revolution, which can bring all kinds of source material with events surrounding that time period.
I like misinterpreted/inspired religions in my games. Don't know why.
...
Wow.
>controls exactly like sotn and the DS games, right down to the movement and the landing/backdash cancels
>stars a pale tittymonster semen demon with exposed thighs
this game was made for me
>They stated that the game is also set during the Industrial Revolution
Yeah, essentially what sets everything in motion is the Alchemist's Guild seeing that everyone's begun to put their faith in science and technology helping the world, so they plan to unleash the demons of hell and the crystal curse onto the world to prove that they're still needed. It backfires when they use Gebel as a vessel for the curse and he kills all of them in retaliation, except for Johannes who'd already left the Guild as he disagreed with the plan.
THANK YOU IGA MAN
Remember to fill out your surveys!
Wasn't David Hayter going to voice someone in this game?
That aside, if they just fine tune it a little, I can tell it's going to be at the least good, if not fantastic. Hopefully they give it 200percent, because if this does well, then they could easily go on to do sequels, or other projects. Unlike Inafune who will now have a hard time convincing people to trust him, god I can't imagine how that legends successor is going to turn out, I want to hope well for it.
Goddamn, I'm surprised somebody remembered that post.
I want to know how many staff members are returning. Since Konami fired everyone, Iga could potentially create an all-star list of people who worked on the handheld titles. I know Shutaro Iida is returning.
But we need to remember that just because a few return, doesn't mean anything. MN9 had a bunch of "Mega Man Veterans", but they were all artists and composers. Plus Ini-Creates is pretty mediocre and only make good games when they have talented people running them. They're only good for grunt work.
>Wasn't David Hayter going to voice someone in this game?
Yes, he provides a voice. Someone probably suggested him to get Hayter fans on board. I don't really mind. It's nice that Hayter gets another paycheck.
What gets me excited is how will Miriam respond to all this. I hope her character isn't as bland as other main characters like Soma, who was just in it for the ride and didn't have much development.
She has this purity kind of look to her, but shit could happen any moment.
THANK YOU IGA MAN
Miriam sounds like she's gonna be Shanoa 2.0, in that she awakens from a ten year coma with no memories of what happened or anything to go on but what she's learned from Johannes.
I think Hayter voices this guy.
dammit
I hope she doesn't become emotionless because of it.
