Metal Gear Solid

Remember that time in Metal Gear Solid 4 when Raiden suddenly got lightning powers?

I'd rather not remember anything about MGS 4, the absolute lowest point of the series, if you don't mind.

the rain transformed

fuck yes I remember this scene.

Everything after mgs2 was bad

Everything after MGS 3 was bad storywise.

YOU ARE THE LIGHTNING IN THAT RAIN

3*

Mgs4 is the best in the series. If you think otherwise you are wrong and

Except it's the highest point in gameplay pre-TPP.

No don't even fucking try it.

Gameplay wise: Free roam mujahid simulator > Yojimbo war sim > The Long Infiltration > Finally FPS aim > Original Metal Gear Solid

All were great, plots may have went downhill but gameplay never failed to improve.

It's easily the worst, actually. And it's not even a close call.

>I am lightning
>The rain, transformed
Unironically one of my favorite MGS quotes

MGS4 probably had the best aesthetics and atmosphere after MGS1

>he has no lightning power in Rising
Why? Such a loss of potential
still great game

I did find that weird, considering they got other small details right, like how Raiden flips behind the Gekkos to cut them like he did in that cutscene.

At least they kinda have it with the Monsoon sai.

MGS3 was alright, but it was the beginning of the end. It was the start of Hideo's homolust for BB. The homolust that killed a series. The Boss and her crew were great characters.

So far as MGS2 goes, it's an excellent game in every way.

His power-draw move does shoot some lightning that kills dudes when fully charged, if I remember right.

He got it from fucking Volgin

Prove me wrong

That clearly says lighting, not lightning.

>he has no lightning power in Rising
what, he has this lighting effect in almost all of his moves, if you are talking about throwing lightning and stuff, you are right, would be cool but too anime even for a weeb like kojimbo

MGS4 had some good ideas and solid mechanics, but it really didn't give you enough time to use them.
Remember these enemies, for example? I sure don't, because there's four in the whole game and it's during the turret segment.

I always thought it was cool that Raiden got "magic" powers after the whole nanomachines shit with Vamp. As if to confirm that magic is real. But then they forgot about that for MGR.

Is there any character in video game history who's been as absolutely gutted as post MGS2 Raiden? 4 fucked up literally everything about him then Rising pissed on the open wound

Yes, as in electrick attack, not meant the effects

You're right, which makes the god-tier gameplay being locked behind so many fucking cutscenes and non-fun gameplay sections like the turret section in Act 2 and all of Act 3 even more unbearable.

Raiden's literally the japanese word for lightning

What the fuck, I thought this was some MGSO shit since I never got to play that

Where were his lighting powers in MGR?

Reminder that the US government deliberately sent in Seal Team 10 to their deaths as a diversion so that Raiden could sneak in.

Why are they using technology from the 80s?

I'm Raiden?

Raiden confirmed for being a lamp who fights Vamp.

I think 4 really would've benefited from being somewhat mission based like V. Have the nomad be your ACC, and let the player go back to any of the previous maps just to fuck around with enemies. The game kept pushing you into corridors and locking the door behind you all the time to the point that it got really frustrating

And V's empty open world would've benefitted from 4's warzone conflict thing it had going on

Who even questions how Volgin got HIS powers?
>inb4 "parasites, son"

tfw you'll never have a magic wand to fix these almost-masterpeices that just went horribly wrong

you mean the patriots sacrificed a squad to further the s3 plan?

absolutely. I get that both games had different focus and as such didn't necessarily have to share certain features, but it feels like a wasted effort when they just discard a mechanic entirely from one game to the other.

I suppose this is worse than the two F16's they sent from Galena base in Shadow Moses, because they didn't expect Liquid to shoot those down with a Hind D

I always thought that was from his circuit-board-esque metal leotard thing.

Fucking this man, I knew something was wrong when they announced MGSV would be open world (not to mention the story was worse than 4's).
Such a shame given how great the gameplay was.

No, people actually like Raiden.

pretty sure that was just a rubber suit he wore to avoid frying himself

Miller gets fucked pretty bad too, over all of MGSV and that's not even getting into his fate in MGS1.

hurr durr

At least Rising was fun and hilariously edgy.

I fapped to adult sunny today. felt good .

Remember that time he tried to shoulderjack a submarine instead of carrying somebody out of its way?

Fuck, why didn't they do that? It would've been fitting thematically too, fighting on both sides of the conflict to keep it going.

>adult

absolute madman!

>adult
I have some news for you user.

He exchanged them for the ability to eat people's spines.

>you are now aware the egg scene was from godzilla

>mfw Sunny launches the ship without a countdown

Do you remember the time he SUCCEEDED? And managed to hold his own against the weight of Outer Heaven?

Raiden's so fucking cool

Kaz was a great character though

Raiden was just shit on though, his entire arc in 2 (And 2s story in general by extension) was made completely fucking meaningless by terrible writing

How was that even possible?

my headcanon is that the whole point of V was to show how big boss was an asshole in the way he created a cult of personality larger than himself and imposed it on others to further his agenda. When Venom accepts the title in the end, it works as the thematic opposite of Raiden throwing his dog tags away at the end of 2. Miller and Venom are also used to show different sides of the same situation.

But the game's blatantly unfinished and the message gets foggy as fuck and I can't decide if Kojima thought it out that far or really thinks it's flattering to serve as body double to some guy who will canonically spend the next 30 years unsure if he is following or rejecting the concepts of a legacy that he already wasn't too clear on.

>MGS4 probably had the best aesthetics and atmosphere after MGS1

I love Grey tinted worlds. And blue tinted worlds. And Green tinted worlds.

kuwabara kuwabara

yeah because mgs1 was soo colourful right?

>tfw thinking they were different people

Can't believe I missed that

I'm playing mgr and I just am not having as much fun as other platinum games.

>I retire to Alaska in the middle of nowhere
>Finally some peace and quiet
>Thought I got away from all the war business and revenge
>Lying on my comfy couch in the front of the fireplace
>Frontdoor gets kicked open
>"You’re pretty good"
>Ohshit.jpg
>Faggot Westaboo Russian comes in twirling his outdated guns
>twirls them for a full half minute
>"Now I’ll show you why they call me revolver"
>Apparently he’s got a new nickname.
>What is it with his revolver fetish?
>Aims his guns at me
>"12 shots, I got twelve shots"
>Get shot
>Die
>The little shit, Eli we rescued from a 3rd world shithole impersonates me
>All he needed was sunglasses and a stupid accent
>Top of the line soldiers couldn’t tell until it was too late
>Played like a fucking fiddle.
>World nearly gets destroyed
>I just wanted to retire from all of this.

Are you retarded? His arms were cut off and his cyborg body is full of electricity

the current ran through the liquids in the wall right fucking next to them

I wish I could control lightning like Raiden.

t.weeaboo

Well that's a reasonable expectation I guess, what kind of shit F-16 pilots get shot down by a fucking Hind D?

Yes I agree the gameplay was fantastic, which makes it even more infuriating since there's 5 hours of it squashed between 10 hours of cutscenes.

Did we ever find out what that job ad for the "New Metal Gear series" was or was there no new info about that?

Apparently, the Hind D can carry anti-air gatling guns.

The F-16s should have been able to easily take out a Hind-D with it's long-range missiles, but if they were sent as just a distraction hey could have been totally without weapons.

>MGS4 had some good ideas and solid mechanics, but it really didn't give you enough time to use them.
This, holy shit. I've played it through 3 times and I feel like I've hardly scratched the surface of the weapons and abilities you get, because there are barely any opportunities to use them. The first two missions throw cutscenes in your face every time you travel 50 metres so there's little incentive to get creative, and then they basically throw the stealth gameplay out the window in chapters 3-4. 5 has one area, maybe two.

Big Boss enjoyed the idea of his "legends", his "meme", and takes advantage of Major Zero publicly building him up as the world's greatest hero during his time with the Patriots. He abandoned Miller because he didn't feel as if he was necessary for his dream anymore.

BB wakes up in what can be assumed to be a good while before V, since he's got most of his muscle mass and is aware of the whole plan through Ocelot. He uses venom to do his dirty work for him, knowing his men are in love with him enough to go through with it. I personally don't think the after credits conversation happens until after skull face dies, since that makes these most sense to me, it'd hit Kaz hardest, and Ocelot could've set his little hypnosis to snap off when Jack Skellington was dead, and revenge was had. Kaz already being photosensitive the flash from the ground zeroes explosion probably messed his vision up enough that we can guess he didn't notice any finer details, or he guessed that BB just needed an amputation and also got shrapnel, and medic died from his. Since Ocelot obviously was speaking to real BB ten minutes before saving Venom, he probably hypnotized himself either during Venom's week long getting muscle back montage or after sending him out to save Kaz (what I think).

Sorry for huge post, I like to think about this game's story a lot for myself since the game itself does a shite job telling it.

2>4>1=3>5

3>2>5=1>4

he is LIGHTING

5=1

Raiden is the strongest snake and nothing you can say will change that.

Everything after Metal Gear 2 was atrocious.

Solid was the beginning of the end of a great franchise.

PIc related. It's the last good Metal Gear game.

Possibly the worst taste I have ever seen. 4 above 3 of the other games is more than enough to discard your opinion.

>show how big boss was an asshole

Kojima can't build up for shit, he did the same thing with the MGS3 crew and the Patriots

I'm still convinced they were never meant to be the Patriots

Am I the only one who fucking loves 1-4 pretty equally? As much as a movie as it was 4 had some great moments

>I am Lighting
>Lighting

1=2=3=4=5 > Ghost Babel > Metal Gear = Snake's Revenge

my theory is that ocelot never really hypnotized himself, just told everyone he would so they wouldn't try and interfere with anything that happened. The times really don't match up all that well.

What I can't piece together is the coma thing. The cutscene at the beginning shows that BB ended up in a coma. At this point we're watching from Venom's eyes, which implies that he's awake, the doctor even says something more throwaway, like "oh, he took some shrapnel". My initial theory was that while they were mind-probing venom to be like big boss, they put him in an induced coma so he wouldn't fight against it. Big Boss woke up about nine years later and they decided to wake Venom too. But the story doesn't really make it clear, what with the "V has come to" and Mantis awakening bullshit. Even more unclear is how Ocelot and BB knew about the man on fire and all that shit before the hospital attack, at times it feels like they're reading the script.

I really wish the game was finish so I could tell what part of it is shoddy writing and what part is unintended dissonance.

>1=2=3=4=5
why even bother

>I'm still convinced they were never meant to be the Patriots

that was pretty obvious, though. The patriots were supposed to be a faceless, nameless shadowy organization guided by puppets that had been dead for centuries and supplanted by information control and artificial intelligence. All that shit in 4 was a complete cop-out, they even have to forcefully retcon the established story in act 2.

Haha remember when MGS2 came out and everyone hated it and now you fags call it the best game ever made hahaha lmaooooooooooooooo

People hated it because it wasn't what they expected at all. Now it's been long enough that some of the butthurt has died down and people can appreciate it for what it is, rather than what they wanted it to be.

Didn't Kojima totally shoot himself in the foot by killing off Liquid? I mean how much more interesting would the series have been if Liquid had stayed alive throughout the series then having his arc come to close at 4?

1=2=3>4=5
That seems more accurate. 4 & 5 are clear examples of too much focus on story over gameplay and vice versa. Making them mostly on the same ground in my book.

>suddenly

MGS was always shocking.

to trigger those of you who don't know how to enjoy a good game

Stop pretending to be oldfag
Here, get your (You) and fuckoff

The Frogs that kept pouring into the room was more ridiculous.

Most of MGS4 is consistently good but the Raiden segments are iffy. Pushing a submarine from a dock with cyborg body and the dock crumbles to pieces. Meanwhile Cyborg Ninja from MGS1 got turned to pulp with Rex's boot heel. This is Jehuty power levels.

Maybe I expected cyborg Raiden to be a bit more like MGS2's Raiden. Remember the Fission Mailed segment? Something like that but this time we get to control Snake.

Who knows. It could be like a "The Hobbit trilogy" thing where Raiden's parts are being retold through his POV to his kid. That's why its so exaggerated.

This
Faggot who fight between 2 and 3 are the cancer of the fanbase

>tfw you used to be that guy but its gets to a point where you realize they're all masterpieces in their own right, even V in some ways

I'm just glad I got to play them

MGS has always been silly with cyborg and nano machine power levels. Raiden goes from being overpowered by Frogs to tossing Metal Gear RAYS like they're soda cans in a few years.

Good, I'm always glad when I see fellow anons evolve as persons
