What's the verdict?
What's the verdict?
I liked it, but it's still too damn short.
It's pretty awesome, if you enjoy the Tales of series more than Star Ocean. It doesn't really feel like a Star Ocean game, which is probably why it's getting such low reviews.
Farming is also far easier than past Star Ocean games, and the role system feels similar to Final Fantasy XII.
Really? I mean I understood how it felt and played like it, but it also felt better. Battles didn't immediately get stale like they do in Tales. Zestiria especially was a huge fucking slog.
Once you beat it, you learn it's based off some book. It's probably not even a real Star Ocean game.
I still haven't beaten 3 or 4. 3 emulates like shit, and 4 is just too difficult for no reason in particular.
>Zestiria especially was a huge fucking slog
I should have said Xillia.
>4 is just too difficult for no reason in particular
The bosses have a ridiculous amount of defense and resilience, also the whole multiple attacks in one turn thing.
Terrible. Read the reviews
>mfw those tattoos on her thighs glow a bright green when she's casting her spells
I'm about 10 hours in and it's a little too easy so far IMO
It's fun. Best JRPG for PS4 right now.
Those are garbage reviews for normalfags with bad taste.
Form your own opinion.
I find it that way, but that's because I loaded Anne with Attack Advocate, Berserker, and Hothead so she hits for 20k while everyone else is lucky to hit for 1k.
meh but could have been worse/10
it's fun but short and easy
Like all the other Star Ocean games; incredibly average JRPGs. Except for SO4 -- that one was just flat out terrible.
Only one I really enjoyed was SO3 because of the ridiculous amounts of post game content it had.
Why waste 60$?
And I hear it's just a load of anime tropes with the same uguu shit like neptunia
Its shit but as soon as the PC version comes out the game is amazing and always has been
Man owning a PS4 sure is suffering.
The real question is, what are the difficulty modes? SO3 had earth galaxy universe and 4D.
4 had earth galaxy universe and chaos
Whats 5?
>Why waste 60$?
Exactly, wait for the PC version.
>Why waste 60$?
$47 with Amazon Prime. Not sure if the 10 days after release sale works with Trial accounts, but Amazon Prime Day is happening on the 12th, so you might want to check that out anyways.
>I hear it's just a load of anime tropes with the same uguu shit like neptunia
That's going to extremes. I don't think I've seen any memes even mentioned in the game so far.
I like jrpgs and anime tropes
Yeah Anne is ridiculous, plus one of her skills has a chance to stun
You get to choose between easy and galaxy with a new game, galaxy is still pretty easy though from my experience.
Conceptually 4 is what I wanted from a sci-fi JRPG more than 3 or 5, planet hopping and exploring the universe using your ship as a hub rather than thoroughly exploring one planet.
But 4 just couldn't please anyone with its entire cast. Everyone hated at least one character in that cast with a passion.
For me, I had no problem with Lymle or the cat girl like many did, but I couldn't tolerate the glasses girl. She ruined it for me.
>same uguu shit like neptunia
Must be some quality information you're reading.
Hahahaha.
this is not a #FE thread, read next time
honestly i had issues with nearly the entire cast and just the writing in general
'story doesn't matter' is a retarded opinion that a lot of people on Sup Forums like to throw around, but SO4 is a prime example of a game with decent mechanics and stuff but filled with writing that is so embarrassingly bad it was almost unplayable for me
i mean the other games weren't amazing either, but SO4 just took it to another level
Except Tokyo Mirage Sessions is actually good.
Enjoy your denuvo
It will still be cheaper than $60.
Japan hates it so its shit because only 1 planet is terrible for SO game
Yeah nice accomplishment
>Japan hates it
Remember the poll results of the best Tales of characters?
Not him, but as far as Japanese RPGs go, he's right.
Fairy Fencer F: Advent Dark Force was also pretty good, the American version comes out at the end of the month. Sadly, it's nowhere near as easy as Star Ocean, nor as fun.
DELETE THIS
What the fuck is up with the shitty day and night cycle? I can barely see anything at night. Its annoying as fuck.
Also fuck those red rings.
Fuck that shitty difficulty spike when you need to defend that one town where you ask victor for help. Twats keep interuppting me
Anyway, 7/10 so far.
its sad
yuri number 1, whats the issue?
>Everyone says its fun to play but the story is incredibly boring
>Cant smoke weed for a few more months
I guess I'll wait till it hits the bargain bin.
are there battle trophies? if so, then they surely unlock the other difficulty modes.
I get what you mean. I love the first two Star Ocean games, but I appreciate what they tried with this new one. They're experimenting a lot and seeing what does and doesn't work. Even though it has a lot of changes, I think they still kept a very Star Ocean feel to the game. I can tell it's part of the series at a glance. I know it didn't go great in Japan, but hopefully western sells boost it up and we'll get a more refined version of this down the line with SO6.
I honestly don't think it's that big of a deal compared to the other Star Ocean games
>SO1: 1 planet for most of the game, go to another planet for final dungeon
>SO2: 1 planet for disc 1, another planet for disc 2
>SO3: 1 planet for half the game, various other space stations and locations for the second half
>SO4: Only Star Ocean with planet hopping but countered by having the worst characters in JRPG history
>SO5: 1 planet for most of the game, go to another planet for final boss.
It's just the usual dumb Star Ocean trope.
>Best JRPG for PS4 right now.
reading this made me wonder: how many good jrpgs are there for the ps4?
i love jrpgs* but my only 2 games for my ps4 are still bloodborne and the ffx collection. i thought the great jrpgs will come at some point when i bought the console but i'm slowly losing hope. i know about berseria and ffxv coming out. what else is there?
*: or rather japanese games in general because they more often than not have good gameplay
>can't smoke weed for a few more months
why not?
But the only game with multiple planets was SO4.
>reading this made me wonder: how many good jrpgs are there for the ps4?
Not very many.
>how many good jrpgs are there for the ps4?
Depends on your definition. There are multiple action JRPGs, yet they tend to have a single character and lack active party members. Traditional JRPGs are very few.
Brotip: They will test you for drugs a week-month after your test. In my case, it was the next day, then the day after that.
imy standards aren't too high as long as the gameplay is fun. shoot me some names.
Basically anything that is semi-cheap. There really isn't a must own PS4 JRPG.
Sad thing is most of these are ports or remakes. PS4 really doesn't have many original JRPG's made specially for PS4. Really glad for XV and P5.
I'd recommend Digimon. I enjoy SO5 a bit more, but both are good JRPGs that were largely ignored.
I recommend Neptunia. It is the best JRPG
>want to buy Nights of Azure
>dont want my friends to see i play lesbian animu games
6/10 game. Shit story, decent combat, all moves coming from books is crap, lots of assets borrowed from SO3, Fiore's ass is great. Would definitely rent or wait for a sale first.
Disgaea 5 and Grand Kingdom plus a whole lot of Remasters. PS4 Odin Sphere in is particularly good since they made some great impediments to the gameplay itself. Valkyrie Chronicles is still fantastic if you missed it on PS3 and PC.
Coming up in a month there is the Asian English "Super Robot Wars OG: the Moon Dwellers" and of course Persona 5 next year.
>impediments
Improvements
Thanks autocorrect
It was also released on the ps3 in japan. Star-ocean 5 is not even a fucking exclusive.
This desu senpai. Can't wait for the mods to remove the loli's skirt.
Waiting out a divorce.
My job doesn't test.
I bought Technomancer instead of this. Big mistake.
I think the biggest indication that the story is fucked is when Fiore takes the group to her lab to research more on Relia. Before she even looks up any piece of information, Relia has some episode, and they decide to head out to a new place. When that happened I immediately thought why the fuck did we even come here? It's clear that it was just another checkpoint among checkpoints with no real meaning. They could have done something better with the story to make it more engaging but it's literally, go here, now go here.
Another indicator that the story is fucked is the character introductions. It happens so fast and to the point where you don't even know the characters you're going on an adventure with.
Well the biggest indicator really is the constant amount of backtracking. You go to one place only to stay for a minute before immediately heading back the way you came.
5 has Earth, Galaxy, Universe and Chaos. Earth and Galaxy from the start, you unlock the other two.
Yeah I was surprised you meet every single playable character within the first 5 hours
Has a lot wrong with it but still a decent play.
>Needing drugs to enjoy games
Come on, now, why even play them when yyou need something to push you other than your own natural desire for entertainment.
Even though the director said you could get couples in the game, the moment Fiore mentions she has eyes on someone other than Fidel made suffer internally.
He played me like a damn fiddle, stuck in my own waifu game.
So you haven't played it and are just shitposting like a child?
Man, when FF XIII and XIII-2 released on PC it felt like I was in bizarro Sup Forums.
Is it true the game is only 20h long?
>It's fun. Best JRPG for PS4 right now.
Sorry, the best JRPG available right now on PS4 is arguably Dark Souls 3, Bloodborne, or Final Fantasy XIV
not at all.
I'm at the post-game dungeon and at 70h+
Get Type-0. I've seen it for $15 at my mom and pop store.
I haven't tried it but I was hearing good things about that new srpg that just came out. Grand Kingdom or something like that? If any anons have played that I'm very interested in your take on it.
Recommand me some good ARPG that don't have hardcore mode bs.
Doesn't that just mean Fidel will have to NTR someone if he wants the witch booty?
Bunch of different unique classes. You can place traps, barriers, and towers on the field to give yourself and advantage. Beautifully drawn and animated. Battles can get intense, especially in war mode, with having to avoid friendly fire and enemy barrages.
I really like it so far. It's a shame more people aren't playing it.
Multiplayer any good? Sounds like a sure buy for me in any case.
post more Fiore pls
Multiplayer consists of players sending their units to the server and then the AI controlling them. You can set each up as you like, but it's not true multiplayer.
>people complaining it's too short
Good I might pick it up, I have 3 100+ hour games from the same series I'm going through and I need a break
This game is kind of difficult. I'm new to the whole genre and stuff, and I seem to be underleveled for everything so far.
I actually remember buying and loving SO4. Looking back on it the entire storyline was a cheese fest and the voice acting was terrible but I loved that game
I agree. The story and characters were terrible, but I still had fun.
6.5/10 for the effort.
>No Colosseum
I remember the SO4 coliseum. You could cheese most fights with Myuria by casting ice needle and then shattering monsters with lightning.
Waiting for it to show up used.
I'm not supporting censorship desu.
>4 is just too difficult for no reason in particular.
Are you playing the PS3 version of 4? PS3 version is harder because they increased the difficulty on bosses making them hit harder, have more defense, and even gave them more HP.
wheres that qt from?
