Tfw I fell for the AMD CPU meme

>tfw I fell for the AMD CPU meme

Just end my suffering, senpai.

What's the problem? Seems to be fairly decent for dx12.

more accurately, it's fairly decent for that one game because it was developed with direct assistance from amd who turned it into their meme benchmarking tool so they could pretend their products weren't universally subpar

>literally a benchmark game, more so than Crysis ever was

Synthetic.

>buying AMD

I feel bad for you OP. Note how all the CPUs in this benchmark were performing far better despite being 500Mhz to 1.3Ghz lower clocked. Imagine the gap once you bring the Intel chips to the same clock speeds. AMD are garbage and the people who buy them should feel bad.

Aside from the annoying stock CPU fan sound, Mine works like fine wine OP

>got a 9590 black
>it's perfect

>tfw fx-6300

Should've at least got an 8320. Fuck.

At least it OCs well.

>tfw 8150
>tfw have a fuckhuge noctua cooler and this shit still goes to like 60°C

spoken like a true cuck

>tfw 4920k
>tfw have a fuckhuge noctua cooler and this shit still goes to like 90°C

bro.

Get a cooler master hyper 212 evo. Amd stock coolers are shit.

If you take nothing from this thread let it be that you need to upgrade your cooler before its too late.

Nothing wrong with it fampai, Mine's been OC'd at 4.1 for about 3-4 years and nothings gone wrong. I'm happy with it.

I'm not sure what to upgrade next in my computer to be honest, thinking the processor. I just want good frames in my games. I think an i5 would help that, but I REALLY hate how expensive intel is - at least for GOOD intel CPUs

I don't really plan on overclocking and the hyper 212 seems complicated to install but i might reconsider if the noise grinds my skull.

>buying 4 year old architecture

Hi Sup Forums im planning out my first build. Originally id planned on going for an AMD processor, but im leaning towards intel. Am I doing myself a disservice in going with an i5 instead of an i7? Only use it for gaming

>have AMD processor
>have to do some discrete event simulation experiments for a uni project
>it takes 1 fucking hour to do 100 repetitions
>I need to do 10000 for at least 3 different configurations
>I try running it on my roommate's laptop mounting an intel
>it takes 20 minutes to do 10000
Fucking AMD

Who fucking gives a serious shit about what you bought

I just installed one on my fx 8350.

Super quiet. tons of guides on installation 15-20 degrees temp decrease.. Its practically standard for an amd cpu.

FUCK that little noisy standard fan.

>ITS REALLY GOOD GUYS
>ashes of the singularity benchmark

Austrian engineering at its finest

>tfw 3770k
>tfw have a 9 year old sexy beast and this shit never goes over 55c

literally the same asJust double the price for plastic edging.

Nice, I'm still using my TRUE 120 that I bought back in 2007 as well. Currently using it on my 4690k, before this I had it on an i7 920, and a C2D e6420 before that.

It's sad too, because back in the golden era of Doom 3 and HL2 AMD was utterly destroying Intel in literally every benchmark with CPU's that cost less than half and have 200% more performance with a simple 2ghz frequency since they were doing crazy high IPC for that time vs Intel's strat of high frequency's.

Intel started doing 8 years ago what AMD was doing back then, and for the last 5 years they're been king.

what's the difference between the i7-4770 and i7-4770k

Unlocked multiplier I think
I ain't sure tho

Yes, the K literally just means it's unlocked, which means insanely easy to OC.

Awesome bro. I skipped a couple system builds with it. First got it for my Q6600 back in 2008, then when I made the mistake of buying a Phenom II x6 1100T, I felt I needed something a bit more capable and I bought the H100. Stuck with the Corsair for my 3770k, but recently decided to dig it out and switch it because the shitty pump on that AIO cooler was making awful coffee grinding machine sounds. Bought this sweet mounting bracket update for the TRUE, and have been loving it. Same or better performance compared to the H100 and it's 100% silent. Beast.

Did you lap yours? I bought a sandpaper kit and am ready to do it. Just afraid that the IHS on my 3770k might be concave and I know my TRUE is convex. If both these things are correct, it's probably already as good as it'll get and sanding it down to perfect flatness will probably ruin the mating process with the IHS. I really don't want to sand the IHS down too, but I guess I have nothing to lose anyway so it might be worth a try.

so you can't overclock the i7-4770 at all or it's just harder to do?

Woops forgot picture. I'm sure you already have a mount for it if you're using it with the 4690k, but if you don't own this thing I highly recommend it. Can get it from Amazon.

Thinking about removing those thumbscrews and replacing them with some washers, using my own bolts, and mounting this monster direct to my delidded 3770k die. Very scared though. Read that if you do it too loose by just half a rotation, it gets 10-20c worse temps. If you overtighten it half a rotation past prime, the system will crash outright and not boot. Sketchy.

You can overclock locked CPUs by ~5% by increasing BCLK but that overclocks SATA, USB, PCIe, RAM and other stuff by 5% since their clocks are derived from BCLK, which may cause stability issues since many devices have tight tolerances.

It works, so it's fine.

>FX-8350 w/ a GTX 1080
>can't even run Total War games on ultra because it doesn't use multi cores well
>can't even play Overwatch for more than 3 hours because it over heats and becomes throttled to 1.42Ghz
>have to restart to unthrottle

I'm not a fanboy but you should have gone the Intel route.

Even a 6700 Skylake is just = to a 2500k wit ha 4.5 OC, but with DDR4 3200 and above you can get absolutely massive performance gains in severely cpu bottlenecked games.

I still have a phenom995

It's ok for gaming at medium settings, at 900p

i have a 4690k with a 212 evo cooler, what kind of benefit will i see if i overclock it?

The fuck are you using for heat dissipation a fucking oven mitt?

Even AMD uses Intel CPUs when showing off benchmarks of their GPUs.

soon as I have the money I'm getting a 1151 socket and probably the new gen7 intel

this bulldozer is going into a micro ATX and become my new remote linux and git server

Yeah, I lapped mine way back in the day. I used to be autistically into overclocking and whatnot. Not so much these days, but I'm glad I did it.

Yeah, I bought that exact bracket to mount it on the 4690k .

you dun goofd

Cooler Master Hyper 212,

but that doesn't stop the internal safety features from kicking in and disabling 5/6 cores after 3-4 hours on double screen ultra

Awesome, yeah I figured you must have had that kit since it's practically the only one available that works for it. Kinda sad to see this top tier cooler fade into obscurity, and become almost impossible to use due to shortage of brackets no longer in production. At least we have them for ourselves though, and it's fucking awesome to run into someone still using this thing.

Do you remember seeing any improvements from lapping it? If yes, I am doing it tomorrow. I have 36 sheets of sandpaper ranging from 400 grit to 3000 sitting on my desk in front of me, just waiting to expose that sexy copper base plate.

If you're cpu bottlenecked in a game now and actually increase the frequency quit ea bit you'll get very large performance increases, we're talking like 10-15fps (not %) or maybe more. This isn't 15 years ago where a 1.5GHZ overclock (if that was even possible, which it wasn't unless you had liquid nitrogen) you'd maybe at best get 4% more performance.

What makes the last few generations of CPU's extremely powerful is the IPC/architecture, not frequency. So when you increase the frequency by a large amount you gain a ton of IPC, which = lots of performance.

Something is wrong with your shit then.
Because it'd have to be averaging 60-70c

Change the thermal paste, make sure the heatsink is connecting properly, make sure you're using a push pull setup and there's a fan behind it all blowing the hot air out.

GTA 5 ran great on my FX-8320

trust me, I know...but this core is ~5 years old now, it has served me well, and will continue to serve me well in a unix server so I can stop using this damned Pi

it does average that maybe a bit lower, 30c on idle... I have no idea why the fuck it locks itself to 1 core after sustained load

i've always played games on medium/high settings, but i have a 270x and the 4690k

i've OC'd my gpu before, but never the CPU, is it basically the same except done in the BIOS?

>mfw I had a phenom 965
>Couldn't run Overwatch without 25-45fps despite the settings

cooling is fine.... CoreTemp doesn't go above Tj max, but for some stupid reason, it just decides to lock itself to 1 core after sustained load. I'm guessing random spikes in sensor, or just the CPU protecting itself. Fuck it either way

Yeah, something is fucking off in a big way.

8 cores usually start throwing a wrench in the works at 61c

You might want to go into your Bios and start figuring out what in-built shit is fucking with your CPU's higher temp operations. Maybe look into an AMD Specific OC program to see if there's some further shit to disable.

Ah, well you'd be GPU bottlenecked long before you'd be CPU bottlenecked unless it was something like GTA5 or an MMO where the players and related things are rendered by the CPU so the more people around you the worse it runs, WoW is a perfect example of the game becoming CPU bound once you're around lots of players.

I saw a noticeable improvement on the i7 920. My TRUE was majorly convex, I spent a day or so lapping it and finished with a not quite mirror finish. I saw probably a 5C difference on average, maybe even a little more under load.

Still have my i5 4670k at 4.5GHz and I can't see myself "upgrading" for literally years to come. Feel bad for a friend with an AMD cpu and his games running worse sometimes even though he has a better GPU and plays at a lower resolution.

>8 cores usually start throwing a wrench in the works at 61c

wow...well that's gonna be a problem...the GPU is @ 75c on load, 80c is considered safe for operations. Is the temperature averaging inside the mobo triggering this shit?

I've been fooling around with my bios, every safety feature including Europe's Eco standard has been turned off... last remaining is disabling the 6th core which comes disabled by default

What OC program would you recommend?

>8350 and 7950
>cant really run anything high besides source games

wow...bro! 7950 was my previous card. Waddup?!

>see pic why I switched

yeah, i'm going to get the non reference XFX 480 whenever it comes out in a month or so maybe

Thanks for the information. I'll definitely be lapping this thing ASAP.

...

Even with a GTX 1080 you'd be GPU bottlenecked in just about every game even with something as old as an I5 2500, that's just how damn powerful that architecture was, and that was multiple generations ago. AMD hasn't given Intel a reason to improve.

480's are being reported as not adhering to PCI-E standards, but there seems to be evidence that if it's not OC'd then it's fine, but if it's OC'd it may damage the PCI-E slot.

I'd wait for more unbiased reviews.

>Ashes of Singularity™
>featuring DirectX12™
>Played best on Windows10™ with AMD™ CPU and GPU!

Reminder no DX12 features are even available for commercial use.

Ive updated my GPU 3 times in the last 8 years. Still using quad black edition AMD tweaked with some OC

is the i7-4770 a good processor nowadays? i'll buy a CPU with the i7-4770 and it's gonna cost me a little bit over 2000 MXN, wich is a little bit over 108 dollars.

Yes, there's no reason to upgrade unless you're doing constant crazy encoding.

I still have a 2500k @ 4.5 and Skylake couldn't compete without it's DDR4 at 3200 and above.

It's just newer, same as that Haswell.

You will literally not have to upgrade unless AMD creates more proprietary market-grabbing tech like Mantle that forces people to change their hardware rather than actually upgrade.

Consoles still don't even use 2GHz cores.

but I run every game at 1080p 60fps. nice try.

Is Ashes of the Singularity actually any good? Or does it exist only as a way for people who were tricked into buying AMD to justify their purchase?

this makes the Sup Forums goer upset

No and Yes.

It would have been better if you had a 32bit OS

and the weak ass CPU in those consoles is part of the problem with modern games on them. The GPUs are weak too but the CPUs are Laughable. Will be the biggest problem with the PS4K if the rumors of no new CPU are true

>512mb GPU

Even my mobile toaster GPU has more VRAM than that.

How do you even manage to play games at fullscreen?

That's because a wall was hit that includes power consumption and heat generated.

Not him but, its a GT card, not a GTX.

Its supposed to only be strong enough to make a display work.
Even IGPUs are stronger than that shit.

Hilariously enough it's an upgrade from my old GPU of HD 5670

otherwise it runs alright

The CPUs are weak but have multiple cores and aren't wasted with an operating system.

The Cell had weak cores but many of them and processed tasks intelligently (assuming you could even code for it properly).

Either way newer consoles use CPUs very sloppily and need extra cores for even simple multitasking purposes.

9600 GT is 300% more powerful than what's in the 360. (seriously), there are also 1GB versions of it.

Running out of vram just causes stutter.

You have nearly my exact build, my guy. Built mine for 500 and I agree, I'm very happy with it. Looking to upgrade soon but not sure what right now, might wait until holiday season or some time next year. I've got really no games that I want to play that pushes my hardware.

>caring about power consumption in the first world

the cooling is a real issue though, they're practically intel stock coolers

I recognize that build

The current-gen was also using 4 year old hardware when it came out, previous gens we re cutting-edge, why ? because before it took 10 games for sony/microsoft to make money, now it only takes them 2.

not sure about the new Win10 system but launch Xbone was certainly burdened by its weird tripartite OS, it had to dedicate resources at all times to Kinect and the dashboard and social features and the games got the lion's share of the leftovers

Does that lighbulb have a heatsink on it?

>friend is having issues in a game
>ask to see his specs
>AMD FX-8800P and a R9 360

Heat generated is directly controlled via architecture and cooling.

>that screen cost him 20 dollars
sometimes I wonder what I'm doing with my life

If you can wait till Novemer plan on doing that. AMD's next-gen Zen chips should be out which should force some price drops much like the new Polaris cards are and on top of that it will be Black Friday deals.

Until Zen and the new AM4 socket motherboards are out you probably shouldn't buy an AMD processor since the current chips and platforms are at their end of life.

i love this guys room.

>the new accent that hyundai released is shit, have you seen it run up against the new corvette?

this is your argument

>shit performance for all products

Not true, there are games like posted that are deliberately made to benchmark well on AMD processors. Nothing GOOD of course

rx480 has outsold the 10x0 series already m80 but yeah cling onto your reddit drama because some tard ran witcher 3 at 4K for eight hours straight on his ancient motherboard.

it's really easy to install and runs amazingly well. 90% of the time my processor is cooler than my motherboard. currently at 22 celsius compared to 33 celsius. I'm not currently overclocking because the stock fan gets really noisy when it runs at higher speeds but i still never went above 40 degrees
