Play Fallout 1 first it establishes the entire series and has an amazing story/plot and fun gameplay/roleplay elements. Move to 2 after since the entire plot is based on Fallout 1. They're both dirt cheap right now so just play F1 first, they are mechanically the same so why not start with 1?

Bullshit, most of the FO2 naysayers cropped up in the last decade. Lots of people preferred 1 but 2 had so much content by comparison that it didn't stop anybody from playing and enjoying it.
