Sci fi setting for games>Fantasy

Sci fi setting for games>Fantasy.

GOD TIER: my opinions
SHIT TIER: your opinions

TOP TIER: tanks
GOOD TIER: space mechs
SHIT TIER: '''''''''real'''''''' robot mechs

Why are mecha so underrepresented in vidya compared to mages?

>top tier
when it's used to drive the plot and gameplay
>low tier
needless fluff that only serves to make it "look cool". Think cyberpunk or steampunk when they don't explore any of the themes or do anything interesting with the tech.

>nge
>mecha

>implications

this

>nge not mecha
its a giant flesh based one

Does it really matter if the giant armor plated behemoth is organic?

>not sci-fi with magic
Get out of here pleb.

But Eva's aren't mechas they're gods in power suits.

Is World of Tanks a mecha game?

Mecha is gay, prove me wrong.

>EVA
>mecha
more like armored humanoid kaiju

It's cool.
Opinion debunked.

>tfw giant robot has better moves than you

>taking the word cockpit this seriously

It's like zombies and infected, doesn't really matter.

>two different concepts
>doesn't really matter
typical groupie
stay the fuck outta /m/

Quick! Name a completely fictional setting that doesn't fall under either the sci-fi or fantasy giant umbrellas.

Sci-fi > Fantasy >>> It was Sci-fi all along! Fantasy

what about real robot space tank mechs?

high fantasy > low fantasy

Fuck off, the undead are just the catalyst for people to go bat shit insane, it's all about the characters.

This guy gets it

>infected
>undead
pick one you miserable faggot
infected are technically not dead, YET, and can be cured

>EVA
>Mecha

Yeah it's time to kys.

>implying a fantasy setting can't have mecha

Yeah, yeah, infected are not zombies, but ir's not relevant to the plot, and what kind of infected are you talking about, havent's seen anything like that. Also, I Am a Hero's infected are undead.

>havent's seen anything like that.
yup, confirmed for groupie
unlearned fags like you are cancer

flesh is antithesis of "mecha"nical beings

for now, yeah

but it'll be run to the ground just like fantasy setting was

yet the EVA´s is very much controlled like a mech from the 80´s
they are effectively flesh mechs

wtf is this nonsense

Evangelion is fantasy as fuck.

brb rewatching

you control the suit the EVA is wearing, not the creature itself
therefore it's not mecha
EVA is kaiju for fucks sake

>nitpicking some shitty wow lore
wow, what other example you got? and you still haven't answered why is it relevant to the plot if they are undead or infected.

>that pic
>wow
fucking newfag kys
go grab an iso and play the mission this instant
I ain't spoonfeeding you fucking baby

man, stratholme has changed

that's the warcraft 3 map

you are the one who brought it up, it's your argument fag.

it's a fucking classic GOTYAY game
the fact that you didn't get it right away disqualifies you from having any proper discussion with any knowledgeable individual

who dunbine here

How is taking a giant monster and putting armor on it the same as a mechanized humanoid made of synthetic material?

who granzort here

Dishonored
Thief
Alpha Protocol
Witcher
Dragon's Age

Magitek > Everything

that's exactly my question
who are you quoting

I have nothing against fantasy, but I too prefer sci-fi and technical stuff.

>Dishonored
yeah
>Thief
I guess
>Alpha protocol
falls under modern military though
>Witcher
>Dragon Age
>Not fantasy

we were talking about movies/anime, mechas and zombies, am i supposed to play every single vidya zombie/infected related? gtfo, not everyone likes warcraft speglord.

I thought I had more than two examples but I didn't so I just added some fantasy stuff
And Dishonored is pretty much Thief.

Ace Combat.

Hard scifi >>> "soft" scifi

There is very little difference between magic space technology and wizard magic and shit. You've just substituted magic wands for wires and hydraulic tubing that go nowhere

My man!

The more technobable the better.

I know

you would fucking love this game, then

Cyberpunk > Scifi > Fantasy

The guy you were responding to. Don't know what happened.

DUDE GEARS AND PIPES LMAO

That's steampunk you literal retard.

You're talking about steampunk.
At least cyberpunk media generally sticks to a set of cohesive themes instead of just gluing cogs on hats.

I like all three mixed together 2bh

I think settings that have aspects of both science fiction and fantasy are the best.

>magic
>not psionics
shiggy

We fucking need more arcanepunk

Bio-mechs are the only mechs you should be piloting.
Shitty, soulless robots are shit tier.

>Posting magic mecha
Idorts win again

>Tanks

Ah, you mean the plebian normalfags choice.

LOL WHY HAVE SOMETHING COOL WHEN YOU CAN HAVE BRICK WITH A GUN ON IT! IT'S SO EPIC AND REALISTIC

>Might and Magic
>Every single fucking time

Still better than Star Ocean

>implying normalfags arnt the retards who can't appreciate tanks so they go for LOL SO COOL BIG MECH PILOTED BY ANGSTY TEENAGERS JUST LIKE MY CHINESE ANIMES JUST TURN UR BRAIN OFF DUDE XD
>implying tanks are not the patrician choice

No Anonymous, because I see far more people going "lol mechs are stupid. why would you want a giant robot instead of a car?"

Just accept that you're normalfag tier. You normie with your love of tanks.

>Upper half is mecha
>Bottom half is a tank
>Crotch cannon
Everyone wins.

I don't mind how Star Ocean does things, but then again, I started with 3.

>person is controlling giant piece of power armor
>somehow this is not mecha
You explained it yourself.

I'm actually a fan of both existing at the same time which somehow went out of style over the decades. There was a period when fantasy and SF weren't really separate.

>Started with 3
I'm so sorry.

that's never ever handled right, though. it always comes off as IT WAS SF ALL ALONG instead of seamless integration or just leaving it incredibly vague. there's that numenera game coming out soon, but I'd kill for a dying earth game.

The tech puts it into sci fi territory

>superlasers
>energy shields
>flying aircraft carriers

Hey, at least it wasn't 4.

Cyberpunk is a subgenre of sci fi

Xam'd is as mecha as mecha gets and, surprise surprise, it is 100% biological in nature.

Who mastema here!

literal shit tier games don't do both

I want Sci-fags to leave. Fantasy is the superior setting.

Why not both?

What's funny is that the person who made the OP image is a total mecha pleb since he has no idea about the existence of fantasy mecha.

you take that back faggot

But you're wrong. Fallout series isn't as well liked as the TES series.

Pretty much. Not to mention settings where magic IS effectively science.

I want an Xcom style NGE game where you basically play as Gendo, and get to lead the nerv.

>gluing cogs on hats
I hate this shit so much.

Steampunk used to be fine before it became a maximum fedoracore Internet fad around 2007.

Problem with steampunk is there's MAYBE like half a dozen game that do it right. Far too many are comfortable to do precisely shit like and just put cogs and wires on shit, and call it steampunk.

As long as there are no mechs.

But robots are cool.

It often does actually, since 'infected' are often a lot stronger than undead.
Take a look at 28 ___ Later, the infected there are basically berserk people that immediately turn other people berserk on blood contact, which is why it took so little time to wipe out huge numbers of people. Films where slow-moving undead take over the world are terrible, so they usually only show the first one or two nights of the outbreak.

>Access to magic AND science
>Not making magic-powered armour

Can we all agree that Sci-Fi is MILES better when there are no stupid fucking aliens around?

Between an alien and an elf or an orc there isn't much difference, they are always treated like the same shit and that's fucking stupid.

I'd rather have only humans and androids and robutts.
