Bought it over the sales. I love harvest moon but I just an not get in to Stardew Valley. It just doesn't capture the same feelings Harvest Moon did.

I only played for a couple of hours, but even though it's supposed to be comfy I get stressed out that I'm not very effective at making money. I spend most of my money on seeds, yet I feel like I'm not really getting a lot out of it. Not as much as I get from just cutting wood and picking berries and shit.

My main beef with these games is how unnatural the social aspects feel.

Apparently they don't give a shit i'm going to be their son in law, the girl says the same shit she always does every day, she just keeps walking after i proposed to her, it just felt so weird. Am i just wearing rose colored glasses when thinking about harvest moon? was it the same situation? Because I don't remember it being that way. After you get married to the girl, she just sort of chills in your house and that's it? You don't really have any more events with her, you can't go out and hang out with her, nothing storywise really happens there after that. No more cutscenes.

I wish friendships and relationships weren't just jamming gifts down people's throats. I wish it felt more natural and was more conversation/activity based. Like imagine inviting someone to come fishing with you, so you both fish at the same time. It opens up dialogue while you're fishing and you're both building a relationship and getting fish at the same time. Invite someone to come into the mines with you, go on walks and having dialogue options, just a variety of activities that can occur that you do together. Rather than just deposting half your daily harvest into the bin and the other half is running around giving it to people in the town. I love these games but I just wish the social aspects of it were more natural and interesting. Do any of these games satisfy this craving? I've never played Rune factory but you guys keep mentioning it, it's definitely getting a high priority in my backlog now

Rune Factory has an actual dating mechanic built into it, but while dialogue with others may change slightly as a result it's not that different than SDV in terms of how people act.

That's not actually Harvest Moon. The people who used to localize Harvest Moon lost the rights because the Japanese publisher bought XSEED and stated using them to publish. But the old publisher kept the rights to the name "Harvest Moon" in the west and started developing their own shitty games using the name.

The real Harvest Moons are called Story of Seasons in the West now.
