What's the best Star Wars game ever made and why is it Jedi Outcast?

What's the best Star Wars game ever made and why is it Jedi Outcast?

Outcast, Academy and KOTOR* are the only good games, period.

Great taste OP

Star Wars Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast

It's jedi Academy for the sole reason of downloading the Movie Battles 2 mod. Somehow after all these years movie battles 2 gives me that nostalgic feeling of the old mods in communities when I play.

He looks like a Kowaikian Monkey-Lizard.

>never played MB2 in my life
>want to give it a shot
>everyone's already a pro at the game so I get fucked up easily enough

The same thing happened to me in NeoTokyo.

What is the trick to lightsaber fighting in Outcast/Academy?

I nominate KotoR 1 or 2, or Academy.

same thing happens with any nichely popular multiplayer game

>hey blade symphony is really neat looking and pretty fun!
>haven't played it in forever
>know it'd be full of elite sword bros who have nolifed it since release

so it goes

I always liked Jedi Academy because it felt like you were the jedi going on missions instead of Kyle Katarn's story. That and more freedom with sabers.

The clone trooper class or mandalorian class destroys sith and jedi pretty easily. Look for lightsaber duel servers as well, I find those people actually study the lightsaber combat in the game and are open to teach newbies how to fight properly with lightsabers instead of swinging wildly and praying like I used to do

>there will never be another star wars game done with similar gameplay mechanics and thought-out linear maps and progression.

Remind me why l shouldn't blow my brains out again?

You guys ever heard of a little game called Battlefront 2?

Yeah... no further questions.

Because maybe, JUST MAYBE, we'll get another good xwing/tie fighter sim after Rogue One

>they will never make another level like this in any future Star Wars game

But hey, EA only holds the license until... 2024?

There's still hope.

Hope is the first step on the road to disappointment.

I kind of like Jedi Academy more. I liked how you had a bunch of missions to choose from and how you start as a Padawan who can only use force push and jump slightly higher to a Jedi Knight who can jump as high as a building and wipe out a squad of stormtroopers with ease.

Lightsaber fights with the Reborn were better in Jedi Outcast though, I'd save before each one just to play through them again.

Since you've already done so before, there's no point in doing it again if you're just going to respawn into this world

Much love for Battlefront 1 and 2 but jedi Academy and outcast have them beat for force powers and lightsaber combat. The movie battles mod that those above guys mentioned also brings really fun online gunplay that's different to the Battlefronts'

>I'd save before each one just to play through them again.
Same

Perhaps Mount and Blade Bannerlord's mod support could make the combat come true. That's a strong maybe though.

Just look at what Disney is doing with all their copyrights. If EA keeps getting bigger they'll find a way to loophole and extend their sole ownership somehow and keep star wars their own forever

This game blew my fucking mind when I was younger, but it was so long ago I don't really remember that much about it other than the physics being really cool and it was one of the only games I could get my computer to run decently. Multiplayer was also cool, I remember seeing a lot of Homer Simpsons running around with dual-sided red lightsabers.

I read mbg frequently, and if there is one thing I've learned

It's that the modding community is too autistic and far-gone to get anything of note done. Every currently usable mod probably has 50 defunct or otherwise abandoned mods.

Fuck gsanders with an aids covered pole.

true true. Only mod I comeback to consistently is A Clash of Kings. It's pretty well polished and I like A song of Ice and Fire as a setting.

That reticle pisses me the fuck off. Is there any way to fix it?

>using heavy/red style

Fucking clown

One thing that always bothered me about star wars games is that lightsabers can stay on forever. There should be a battery meter or something, I mean it's obvious the power is limited.

>the whole dark forces/jedi knight series
so good

Combine that with spamming force push and you can take out Desann in two or three clean strong hits assuming he doesn't push you away once he's fallen over.

Name a game where you're running around with it on for over 5 hours. If my high powered flashlight can stay on for over 5 hours their high tech mystery power source or battery can probably stay running longer than any level or mission or time a player would normally have it on

Not many series without a single bad entry, but it's one of them. Also, KOTOR

Dark side enemies would have an even more unfair advantage since they can use the force an unlimited amount of times.

You mean republic commando.

>star wars conquest fucking died
for fucksake

>tfw kyle katarn isn't canon now

He is. They just renamed and remodeled him a bit.

Nah, you're thinking of not!Katarn and his not!Jan Twi'lek pilot girlfriend (who's voiced by Jan's VA) from Rebels.

battlefront 2

Why are there so many good Star Wars games? You'd expect a mainstream non-vidya media to translate into complete and total shit.

MB2 doesn't take that long to get good at and there are a *lot* of scrubs who play compared to good players. Clone is really easy to learn and highly effective. Once you've got that down, try to pick up Soldier.

no, youre thinking of actual kyle katarn and jan in dark forces the movie

outcast is a terrible game with the star wars license and fun combat mechanics holding it up, absolutely everything else ranges from subpar to bad

animations, the level design, story, enemy design, bosses etc etc, pretty much everything is unremarkable outside of the core mechanics

Jedi academy is turrible

Jedi academy, it gave you the control over your levels and force progression and had better option for weaponry. And I'd put Jedi knight at second place because it had fantastic levels and for the time really inventive mechanics with force and fencing. Outcast always looked rather boring to me.

>E3 2016
>they show off 3 seconds of the new SW game
>immediately know it will be uninspired Uncharted-tier trash

at least 1313 had you play as Boba Fett

Opinion discarded and your bloodline has been marked for sterilization and termination.

Bloody mousejews and their bloody copyright.

>EA in charge of making a single good game that isn't dumbed down into oblivion
gl with that

Are you 15? Or are you just clinically retarded?

>waah le i-implying it isnt good :(

well argued, coming from someone who has actually been working on games, outcast is a piece of shit in so many ways its not even funny

one of its most atrocious design sins is having such completely amateurish level design that the developers have no clue on how to guide players to solve the environmental puzzles, hence why tons of people get constantly stuck and spend an hour running around mashing E on everything

At least the Battlefront VR experience has potential.

Sounds like you need to git gud

>What's the best Star Wars game ever made and why is it Jedi Outcast?

because its Jedi Outcast

sounds like youre accidentally on an 18+ website

>coming from someone who has actually been working on games

IndieMaker 2.0 doesn't count, fatass.

Anyone who says Outcast has massive nostalgia goggles on. Both Academy and Knight are way better.

>coming from someone who has actually been working on games

nope
outcast is the best, i hated academys combat rolls, they locked you into the direction you rolled in

Jedi academy because i liked using dual sabers online

I don't think I ever finished Outcast but I got quite far in it
The console-enabled lightsaber gore stuff is awesome but it makes the game way too easy
Every time I fought against a Sith I just randomly faliled around until the enemy fell apart

I was just like you until I got gud.

I thought 1313 had you as generic mercs.

That's not TIE Fighter, you rebel scum!

Say, why didn't TCW ever get a good game? It was ripe for it. Lots of good material.

AAGAJSAGGAGAGHAGFGH

Here's why JO > JA:

You aren't showered with lightsaber battles to the point that they get stale like in JA

Kyle slowly gets his powers back level per level naturally, he jumps higher, he does more jump moves, etc

JA's story is lackluster (Rosh)

You play as Kyle motherfucking Katarn

news flash, you sperg

JO's good levels > JA's good levels, this is fact

never said academy is any better

It's a known fact that JO's SP > JA's SP and JA's MP > JO's MP

The only problem is that JO doesn't have good levels. They all range from terrible to bearable.

...

>Battlefront 1 & 2
>TIE Fighter
>Republic Commando

Pretty much this, though JA did introduce some new saber moves.

>It's an 'Outcast vs Academy' thread
I loved both. Neither are perfect, but they are disputably the best Star Wars games.
There will never be another JK game and if there were it'd be terrible. It's a tragic fact of life we all have to deal with.

What am even looking at? That shit is beyond terrible.

>Empire at War
>not good

I'd be funny if it wasn't because, a decade later, they haven't improved their animations a single thing.

An attempt at animation made by a bioware intern held at gun-point

Apex kek.

How to tell if a Star wars game is good in one easy step!
Is Kyle Katarn in it?

Im sorry but outcast is pretty sublar compared to dark forces 2.. Which is one of the greatest first person shooter/third person on the pc

UNLIMITED POWAAAAAH

Holy shit. This surpasses that Dragon Age one where the protag pushes that assassin out the window.

Why is Bioware so shit at animation now? ME2 was fine. What the hell happened? This is amateurishly bad. The sort of thing you'd expect from someone learning how to animate.

I dont think i ever beat that level.. It was so fucking confusing.. I just used thereisnotry when i got there

ME2 was still pretty bad. I think it was when they started using the same 10 animations for everything.

I never got to unlock Katarn in Rogue Squadron.

You also had the problem of cutscene weapons never lining up with what you had on you, and even if they did bother doing it properly they were usually being held wrong.

what the actual fuck

Dude, Mass Effect 3 recycles animations from Mass Effect 1, BioWare is just one of the worst, if not the worst, Triple A studio regarding animations.

DF2 > JO > JA

Anyone who says otherwise is a fucking tool

people like you are the reason good games don't come out any more.

people like you are the reason good games don't come out any more. If you need an arrow constantly pointing toward the big dumb highlighted object just so you can finish a level, maybe it's time to stop playing vidya or play something more on your level.

are you retarded?

theres a difference between convoluted and good level design, and your inability to process criticism or arguments of any kind towards MUH FAVORIT GAEM :'( shows you should get the fuck out from Sup Forums

oblivious retards like you are the reason "good games" dont come out anymore, and its because you dont know what a good game is

and jedi outcast is in my top 5 games of all time, difference is that im not a 15 year old who thinks the game will leave me unless all I have for it is unanimous idiotic praise

Hundreds of million dollars of budget.

I agree

Why are disintegrations so damn satisfying to watch?
>ywn disintegrate humans for the first time on Destroy All Humans again

1313

There's still a lot of players who aren't all that great. The mod got a surge of popularity around the time the last movie came out.

An attempt to create a fight scene with canned animations and no moving camera

Rewatch it everytime. That fucking neck crink
