What fuckin cpu are you gaming on?

i7-920 OC'd to 3.5

no problems... (at stock Doom4 suffers sometimes)

and remember to remove the lid of cpu with a razor-blade

WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU DOING NIGGER

i come fron Sup Forums. we do stuff to technology

Remember to defrag at least once annually

A wonderful kek

My i7 920 just died last week.

I have replaced it with a i7 6700K

I don't recommend upgrading your CPU if you have a i7 920 or newer. It's not fucking worth it.

Try to use your current CPU until it dies. Intel are scammers.

this can't be real.. the benefits of those guides don't worth the risks..

had an i7-950 @ 3.7 until recently. bought a xeon x5660 on ebay for $80, have it at 4.2 right now. also sold the i7-950 for $50. cheap upgrade, didn't have to get a whole new system. gained like ~1k points in firestrike, cinebench went from 426 to 870. i recommend it if you still have a lga1366 mobo.

Why did decide you go with a 6700k over an i5 6600k?

I need to defrag my SSD now that you mention it

why it died? did you raise the voltage? what was your ghz?

btw this was the thread that got me interested in getting a xeon - overclock.net/t/1461359/official-xeon-x5660-x58-review-discussion-and-xeon-l5639-benchmarks-inside

i7 4770k @ 4.5ghz

1.195 vcore baby, won the binned lottery

i5 3470. Handles pretty much everything I throw at it really damn well.

This fucking image goddamn

I was desperate and needed a new computer ASAP the i7 6700K had faster delivery time.

I have no fucking idea why. perhaps there was some design fault in my stepping which resulted in hardware failure over time or something.

I agree that it's a little redundant in places, but it's a pretty comprehensive guide. I've defraggled this way several times now.

Have this baby for like 7 years I think

Phenom II 965

Definitely needs an upgrade sooner or later

Guys if I know fuckall about overclock getting a K is useless right?

>25C drop in temps
Oh fuck.

2500k at 4.6ghz with 16gb ram still no reason to upgrade.

i7 6700k at 4.6 ghz

The build was done last autumn. I use my PC for work, and some software that I use is demanding. Hence the specs.

E8400 Duo Core
To poor and cant be fucked up upgrade yet.
Give it 3 more years and ill finally have to.

Well yes, but overclocking with a K is literally just changing a number in the bios to the highest you can until you find one that doesn't bsod.

You can't really break anything.

2500k masterrace reporting in

i5-750 at 3.7

some people think you get better temps with the lid removed.

This was only true with the 3rd gen 1155 socket series.

Well, not exactly as easy as says, you need to find proper voltage at which the overclocked frequency works, preferably without BSODing or frying the CPU. But you can look up what other people have used, and with what kind of cooling.

4670k at 4.5ghz

I doubt I'll need to upgrade for a few more years, I might do it though.

i5 3570K at 3.40GHz
Should I upgrade or not?

I5 4460 at stock

I make sure to defrag my SSD weekly

Have CPUs hit the ceiling?
Will Intel freeze the prices forever until new technology arrives?

Personally I havent run into any real problems with comparable specs on my 3470. Just keep using it until it croaks. CPU requirements on games these days are usually overblown.

no.

i5 2320

Always invest in a better CPU than a video card when building a new computer. New video cards come out as soon as you buy them, but the PCI slot is usually never changing. With a strong CPU right out the gate, the only real upgrade youll have to worry about in 3-4 years in the video card. the rest is still decent.

4690k at 4.5Ghz

Should last me a while yes? Just built it last year.

i5-4440S at 2.80GHz

FX 8350 @ stock. Have never needed to unlock and I could easily if I wanted

i7 3770k

it's fine but seems to run hot even with better coolers, but that could be something unrelated to thr cpu

Why do I need to do that? I just bought an I5 and I put it in without doing that. Should i be worried?

Are AMD CPUs any good?
I have never tried anything newer than an Athlon

I run a 3570k, stock for now. About 4 years.
I have another that runs an FX 8120 made of nothing but used parts.

Looking to upgrade the Amd. Should I stick with AMD or go Intel? I've always been a strong believer in Intel being better for games. But a few benchmark charts say an amd fx 8350 is better than my 3570k which I find hard to believe.

i5 2550k @ 4.2ghz

It's pretty old, should I upgrade?

I7 860. Its old and I'm due for an upgrade but it mostly gets the job done.

Theres a theory that the cpu manufacturers use shitty thermal paste when making the cpu, so its common practice amongst pc enthusiasts to delid your cpu, replace the thermal paste with some of a higher quality to get that 2-5c better temps

Just for mid-end, they can't keep up with Intel at high-end anymore.

Don't even need to do it through bios anymore, most boards come with a program so you can do it from your desktop, including voltages.

drink half a bottle wine & do it. i did so

Also 3570K
No, it holds it's own just fine

I have the official meme cpu aka 4690k

Do I need liquid cooling for CPU OC? If I dont want want a pc that sounds like a jet engine, that is.

it depends how far you are OCing.

bumping from 2.8 to 3.0 no. Bumping 2.8 to 3.5 yes

are you the PCucks guy

any problems bro? my wife just got double teamed by 2 syrian immigrants

i7 2700K @ 4.2 GHz

This and my NH-D14 are probably going to last quite a while.

tell her i said hi

i5-3570k 3.5 gHz, haven't actually oc'd it yet waiting to get a better cpu fan

mark? you the guy who tore her colon?

This picture reminds me of something, I have a hard drive with a head that needs replacement. Do you really need to be in a super clean environment to do replace it or is it just some boogeyman trick to get you to pay 1k+?

i5 2500k @ 4.6

1.46v. Lost the lottery hard as FUCK. As far as I've seen, it's one of the worst 2500ks made.

have you finished downloading gta 5 yet

i paid my wife's breeder $70 to torrent it for me. i am still waiting

computer components will eventually wear out and start producing hardware failures regardless if no other reason than entropy itself

typically it happens first because of failing caps though, which is odd for the cpu to show signs of failure so early, he probably had a bad one

I had an i7 860 and it definitely couldn't keep up in modern gaming.

Do you guys keep your CPUs running overclocked all the time?

i do, why?

Just wondering since I've been running my 3570k at 4GHz for the last few years and I'm not sure if this is good for the CPU or not.

Don't exactly have the cash right now to replace any of my parts if they fail.

you're cooking on high heat versus medium heat, this does have a greater impact but you may never experience problems related to your cpu or even the entire rig for over a decade

the caps however, they also take more impact from OCing and they are more prone to failure over time, which will result in more frequent blue screens as they are no longer able to hold a smooth voltage

Duo-Core upgrades are cheap on Ebay though

an E8600 is only $15

So...should I turn off the OC or not?

Don't know if its particularly affecting anything right now. Don't really play any intensive games but I may be interested in emulating on Dolphin.

you shouldn't really OC unless your GFX card is bottlenecked or your application needs more CPU - thread related for instance an old i7 920 with a 580 should be OCed to make full use of the card

simply put, if you don't need it don't do it

Data on an hard disk are so packed that even a single speck of dust can ruin the disk.

if the information on there was so important then you should have made backups

it can be fixed but if the data is important you should let a professional handle it

3570k here. Is it time to buy a liquid cooler and bump this bitch to 5ghz?

if you need that much computing speed then you should invest in a system with parallel processing

a supercomputer

i5-4690K at 3.5GHz. Haven't OCd yet

FX-8350 with no OC because i was dumb and bought a shitty motherboard M5A97

i decided to oc my i7-920 running on factory oc'd 750ti. doom4 started getting bottlenecked. now its mostly snooth. i got an overclockers mobo. left cpu voltage untouched at 3.5ghz

you should get a trip code

2960xm OC'd to 4.0 all cores, no problems so far... but I only play touhou.

>FX 6300, stock speed
I-it was a b-bu-budget build ;_;

i7 2600K
stock 3.4, currently 4.5 ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I'm a little peeved though. I wanted to set my desktop as a type 1 hypervisor and run both Linux and Windows as VMs, but my processor doesn't support GPU passthrough. You know what does support it though? The not overclock model, i7 2600.....

(((voltage untouched at 3.5 GHz)))

you're killing me

PHENOM II 1090T

Wow that's insane bad luck m8.

>tfw i5 2500k died last month

hoped it would have lasted longer. I had it on stock for the last 3 years, too.

2009 I5- 750 @ 4GHZ

I really got my money worth out of that bitch

is a skylake i3 good enough for modern games?

is i5-6600k really worth more than twice as much?

The best performance for your budget is fucking buy a i7 920 for 20 dollars.

It maxes out every fucking game. It's much better than ANY i3.

People dislike buying used stuff so they refuse. But it's the best price/performance ratio there is.

i5-6600k is good but it's like ~30% faster than a i7 920 for 10x the price.

you disgust me.

>bought a k version of the processor
>probably never gonna overclock it

:^)

You can just pick overlocked mode in the bios. It's just 1 press of a button then never look at it again.

thats a shame user
at least you could probably sell it to save for a FX-8350 or something
i was lucky, when i broke a pin in my FX-8320 and sent it to AMD, they sent back a FX-8350, althought the warrantly clearly states that broken pins are not covered
