Just bought a GTX 1080, upgraded from a GTX 670. Now I can finally play Team Fortress 2 at 300fps
Did I fuck up?
Just bought a GTX 1080, upgraded from a GTX 670. Now I can finally play Team Fortress 2 at 300fps
Did I fuck up?
no
Your only fuck up was buying a reference card.
Yes
hl2.exe doesn't care about your GPU
only your CPU is important, nothing else
u bought a card that is meant for 4k/1440p/144hz, i hope u have a monitor that can do that
also, gamers are weird. you just spent like 700 dollars so u can play shitty old games you could already play just fine and cheap console ports (that were built for hardware 1/10th of the speed of ur graphics card)
I actually got the MSI founders edition.
Just bought a 1440p/144hz monitor aswell. And yeah it's a lot of money but I'm at a point in my life where I can finally spend this kind of money without having to worry about it.
>Falling for the reference card meme
No, the reference models overclock better than some aftermarket cards.
The only issues is the noise from the fans once you've set up a nice fan profile to keep temperatures under control.
Also once BIOS modding becomes available you will get more out of the cards, it's going to take some time compared to Maxwell and Kepler, Nvidia completely overhauled the BIOS with Pascal an put what appear to be some certificate checks even before flashing.
I'm guessing they don't want the AMD to look at it since 480 behaves very simlar to do Maxwell.
I should probably add I'm not specifically aiming for 4K. I feel 4K is still a little bitch out of reach atm. 1440 + GTX 1080 should be OK for a while. That's my thought process anyway.
The human eye can't see past 60fps dumbass
i'm thinking of buying a 1080 also
is pci 3.0 16x needed? i only have one pci 2.0 16x slot
will there be much performance loss
The human eye cant see frames you stupid mother fucker
>TF2
>not immediately seeing how many frames you can get in Quake
Which is a reference card.
Ah okay I must be confused then on what a reference card exactly is.
Basically Founder's Edition is Nvidia's new cool and hip name for the reference card that they sell at a premium. And since they sell the reference card at a premium the manufacturers are like "Wait a second... our cards are more valuable so we'll sell them even higher!" And that's why you won't ever find a card at the MSRP price. The End.
>GTX1080 costs 800€
Yeah, fuck that.
How'd he fuck up then?
Can you quote in the posts Where exactly I said he fucked up?
My main concern for fucking up as that it's probably better to wait for the TI version to come out. Coming from a 670 I've been waiting for a long time to upgrade though. And I'm not keen on waiting any longer.
However since I'm aiming for 1440p and not 4K I still think I should be good for a while.
Should've gotten an EVGA one then because they have their step up program where you can pay the difference and get the newest card.
Check the 1070 then
That's a good tip. I did not know that.
GTX 670 user here
you could just have gotten a FPS config...
also TF2 is unoptimized as fuck, CPU bottlenecked, and a lot of the performance issues are just from compiling with visual studio
not waiting for the 1080ti
baka senpai
Since this isn't the first time it's mentioned in the thread I will have to clarify. I actually was kidding about TF2 @ 300fps. Shocking. I know.
when does the ti ones normally come out?
...
AMDOLTS GO HOME
THIS THREAD IS FOR NVIDOLS!
Where did this originate from? I remember a few years ago people kept saying this shit and a few of my normie friends actually believe this.
I remember them showing off MSRP 1080s at Computex.
>not buying it so you can play nekopara at 500 fps
>not busting a nut in coconut in 4k
Are you serious about TF2? I thought it was a funny joke.
see
Good. I thought I was going crazy.
11 months so 10 more to 1080ti..
and amd will release rx 480 by then so why wait 10 months for gtx 1080ti?
Should of bought a 970. It's future proofed for a decade minimum.
>reference cooler
Oh you poor, poor uneducated kid.
>Should of
I know you're just trolling, but still...
>Playing any shooter under 120 FPS
>buying goodgoy edition when custom boards are out
literally retarded
What is everyone's hate for reference cards? From what I hear the card themselves get hotter, but it keeps the rest of the computer a bit cooler.
At least in a basic computer case like mine which only has a front top and back fan.
>but it keeps the rest of the computer a bit cooler.
that shit doesn't matter if you have a normal sized case with decent ventilation desu
currently running:
>i5 6600k
>16GB DDR4
>750ti
just waiting on the fucking 1070 prices to drop so i can plug this shit into my 4k tv
I just use a stock cpu cooler for my 3570.
My gpu gets to about 81 degrees under load. But I don't check the cpu temps. It's a reference blower type.
paid way more for a card because of its aesthetics
Yes you did. You bought the founder edition. How disgusting
I thought reference cards were better since the latter models they have to fix all the shit they did to max out performance for reviews?
Good luck playing games at acceptable framerates at 4k with a 1070.
Probably from here tb h
You're pretty gullible aren't you?
The AIB cards are there to improve upon the reference design. You could have gotten a EVGA SC 1080 for the price of a founders edition.
i play 1.6 at 30fps
come at me
>op wants to brag about garbage he bought
>he doesn't know it's literal garbage
>everyone calls it garbage
>buying an already overpriced card while there is no competition and low supply
You are retarded. It will cost half of that in about 6 months.
>Have a cheap Iiyama 1080p/60hz screen and a 970
>Want to try 1440p
>Want to try 144hz
I'm going to have to buy a 1080, aren't I?
how much did you pay for a real-world 15% performance gain over an AMD gpu which costs over $400 less?
you realize both AMD and nvidia produce their cards at the same exact factory right?
you realize there is no bullshit technology or advantage nvidia has which justifies such cost, right?
you realize that gtx 1080 only performs better in some games, but not all, right?
dark souls 3 and many other games play faster on AMD
basically any game which isn't "optimized" for nvidia plays better on AMD
look at that... That's a perfect smash window grab shit situation right there.
