Mechanically probably Attila but some people get turned off by the setting
Medieval 1
M2 has the best mods though
Rome I and Medeival 2.
Only thing that pisses me off in Medeival 2 is the dumb Ai that declares war to you for no fucking reason within 5 turns. I installed the "Ultimate AI" mod and the AI does feel smarter without any random declarations of war or betrayals without a good reason and such
Medieval 2 and rome 1 are overrated. They are incredibly flawed in many ways, especially med 2 with its multiple downright broken game mechanics. Still great though.
this
If mods are included id say either Bellum Crucis for medieval 2, DEI for rome 2 or TROM3 for shogun are the best total war fun times. Just choose favorite setting.
Medieval 2 with mods.
>Only thing that pisses me off in Medeival 2 is the dumb Ai that declares war to you for no fucking reason within 5 turns
Isn't that pretty much how medieval history went?
I don't really know, but I liked Empire the most, and Shogun 2 as close second. I tried out Medieval 2, Rome 2 and Attila but didn't like them, and bought a couple of weeks ago the new Warhammer one and was very-very disappointed.
Why can't they just make a new Empire game?
>but I liked Empire the most
That's a very unique taste you have there.
Napoleon Darthmod and Shogun FotS.
Call me a weeb all you want but Shogun 2 is fucking perfect.
I've always wanted a Total war game based in mainland Asia.
Shogun 2
This little weeb gets it
Why? I love that era and when I was younger I played the shit out of Cossacks which has a similar setting.
My one and only complaint with the game is the lack of faction variety, but that's because of the setting. Feudal Japan is still fucking great and FotS really spiced things up.
>US Marines
>But I liked Empire the most
Same. Still play that and Napoleon all the time. Shogun 2 I would argue is objectively the best in the series though. Rome 2 and Attila are also great. Safe to say that Warhammer and Medieval 2 are by far the worst and should be scratched from the record.
In terms of balance and design and shit it's probably Attilla or Fall of the Samurai.
I've been having an absolute blast with Warhammer total war though, to the point where it's becoming my favorite.
It doesn't declare war on you for no reason. The point system from Shogun 2 where you can just how bad or good your relation is, has always been present in the game. It was just made visible to the player in S2.
I feel like Shogun 2 had the most non broken diplomacy in the entire series as well. They really did a good job with hostages and negotiation.
Medieval 2 seems kinda broken honestly, speaking as someone who has only played Rome 1 and Shogun 2
The AI doesn't seem to know what to do when it comes to sieges
>breaks like 5 holes in my wall
>still just stands in the field doing nothing
Also cavalry charges just seem to not work, where they stop using their lances at the very last second
Shogun 2 was the last great total war game
Warhammer is my favourite because it's really fun and I love fantasy.
However I don't feel that Warhammer can be measured on the same metric as the other total war games, it's too different mechanically from every other TW game.
So I would have to say Shogun 2 is the best of the 'genuine' TW games, at least in my opinion.
In Shogun 2 is there a timer for CPU initiated battles? There's been a couple of times where I've been massively overpopulated and when the battle start the computer just has its entire army sit there. I tried to wait out the timer to win, but after about 15 minutes of 3x speed I charged their lines.
Geez why so hostile to m2?
Literally all crap.
Only thing that annoys me is that your vassals turn on you when realm divide happens. There's no point of keeping vassals before that happens.
I think the broken cavalry charge is the only real thing that infuriates me. For some reason it works fine on Teutonic and Britannia just not the other modes
Medieval 2 was my favorite in the series for almost a decade and then a month ago I tried Napoleon.
Wow. Game has blown me away. The setting fascinates me and I have learned so much about the time period playing it and then doing my own research.
The canon and bullet mechanics feel so good and rewarding when they hit home.
Seeing a line of men scattered like rag dolls by shot is just pure gratification.
I think my only complaint is that there aren't as many unique feeling units in the game in any other sense aside from they just take a unit, give it a special name and jack its stats through the roof (I'm looking at you English Royal Guard Infantry).
I also wish that the campaign AI wasn't so predetermined to ally with the same factions every time, but I can deal with it.
Either way it's my new favorite game and as I type this I am ordering food so I can eat while watching Waterloo.
Not hostile, it's just shit.
Yeah, vassals are really pointless in the game. I only ever make them in the first 40 turns. After that I dont risk it.
Played Rome, Medieval II, Alexander and Attilla. Just picked war hammer up this week.
I gotta say war hammer. As a man who struggles in empire management and does really well in battles I really like the province system. I don't feel like its been simplified, at least not if you've limited hero abilities.
More than anything its interesting to see a game push the total war model so far interesting directions.
Napoleon by far
But I'm biased because Waterloo is my favourite movie
Got the blood for the blood god DLC with dismemberments, decapitations, bodies literally exploding and blowing up, undead fighting with their heads off, and holy shit am I having fun with Warhammer again.
Now THIS is Warhammer.
Medieval 2. It had the best campaign map, great battles, tons of awesome mods, and the graphics still hold up 10 years later. Rome 1 probably has the best battles/MP by a hair. Everything since Medieval 2 has streamlined the campaign map so that it's not really a game by itself anymore and made the battles feel completely weightless. Also DLC out the ass and no mods.
>rome 2 is great
I think you just have the worst taste.
Shogun 2 and then Medieval or Medieval 2 for mods. I have to be honest though, I'm not very good at the new TW and the friends who like the series love every single game, but playing Rome 2 was pretty horrendous. The incredible disgusting UI was making it impossible to play and when I would get it into it shit would become buggy at any given point even in the latest version. I think that's probably one of the major points why I just can't play any TW after Shogun2 anymore.
>day 0 DLC
And this is why I never pay for Total War games.
Attila is by far my favorite
I don't mean to talk shit but I don't think M2 holds up very well
There was a perfectly good reason for them to do it. Everything is fine :)
I'd have to go with Shogun 2. The new Warhammer TW is good, but everything about it is so dumbed down that I can't call it the best, even though various elements like the AI are the best they've ever been in a vanilla TW game. Combat and city building got dumbed down hardcore.
Attila is the best most refined TW game
People who say otherwise are biased as fuck
you should check out mount and blade napoleonic
>biased
why does Sup Forums not know how to use this word?
Do you get Attilla's improvement in Rome 2?
No, it's a separate game.
...
Seriously? this is stupid
Modded i'll have to say Empire or Napoopan.
Attila is probably the best TW game all around though (fuck you guys, i love the setting) but a lot of the management stuff feels really half-baked compared to more indepth games. Wish they'll expand on in other TW games.
Warhammer was fun for the first campaign but as of yet doesn't have a lot of staying power.
is this the meme when the king literally dies on the front because he dressed like a common soldier while he shouted
"IM THE KING IM THE K-Blurhg"
and then his army turned and ran while being chased to their deaths?
wat
Medieval 2's point system had several bugs that were never fixed like occupying a city causes you to lose reputation points, massacring a city causes you to lose more reputation points, and looting a city causes you to lose even more reputation points than that in spite of the fact that fewer people die.
Answer the question
My personal ranking:
Rome 2 > Attila > Napoleon > Shogun 2 > Warhammer > Rome 1 > Empire > Medieval 2
Attila seems have the best mechanics, but I prefer Rome's setting much more.
I would put Napoleon on the first place if the battle AI wasn't so poor.
Warhammer has high potential, but for now it lacks content.
Empire is interesting but similarly to Napoleon, AI (which is even worse) makes it unplayable for me.
Rome 1 and Medieval 2 were great for their time, but battle mechanics are poor compared to newer titles, and sometimes doesn't even work at all, as is the case with M2.
Best total war is Attila, at least its my favourite, FOTS, and med2 with bellum crucis come close
I heard a rumor it's multiplayer only and the servers are dead. I have hesitated in picking it up.
Do you have any more info on it?
I don't have it installed right now, but I'm sure it had at least one populated server, often reaching 200/200 players.
Classic Rome
Not that guy but i haven't had trouble finding a populated server when i've played recently.
I guess there not being 10000+ people playing right now means it's dead by Sup Forums standards but you won't have trouble finding people to play with.
It is MP only though.
>your vassals turn on you when realm divide happens.
You can get your reputation high enough that they stay loyal.
Shogun 2
>day 0 DLC
It was literally released a month after launch.
>day0
This came out just this past week and the game came out in May. So a month and a week or two dlc
Try Warhammer online. The speed of it is perfect for MP battles in my opinion
Rome 1.
It's too unbalanced, and the whole meta consists of spirit leech vamps and demigryph/greatsword spam
Objective WarScapeâ„¢ Power Ranking:
1. Rome 2
2. Attila
3. Fall of the Samurai
4. Shogun 2
5. Empire
6. Napoleon
7. Warhammer®shit
>rome2 better then attila
no attila > empire > shogun > rome2 is the correct warscape ranking
Skip that dlc, it is multiplayer only. Instead, get a mod called L'Aigle on the workshop. Single player Napoleonic total conversion mod for Warband. Don't even need the dlc for it. It's great.
What the hell are you doing
warhammer as it is now shouldn't be in the top 5
I'm glad shills left this site in the mean time
>warhammer as it is now shouldn't be in the top 5
I agree, it has annoying bugs, balance issues and lacks content, the pic is just amusing
may I have the source ?
>mfw rushed tech that had Marian reforms in Rome 2
>mfw having centurions ~100 years they became into place
Warhammer is pretty good but it doesn't have all that much content right now so I will have to go with Atilla.
With mods probably Empire.
youtube.com
am i the only one who likes Rome 2's soundtrack as much as 1's
>putting rome 2 any less than #1
Empire with mods is my favorite. But i do have a huge boner for the setting and the type of warfare depicted in that game.
that's saul jew meme
>Empire with mods
I really liked imperial splendor until they decided to make everything dark as fuck, what mods do you use?
did they fix the ai loop shit?
i could never take a city with walls cus the ai would lose its shit trying to go around a broken parapet and would loop so hard the game just broke in half
Muh nigga
>489 hours total played
Wtf am I doing with my life
>yfw autoresolve
I really love Warhammer. I also love Shogun 2 and Rome 2, even though it gets a lot of shit, for the settings.
>489
thats nothing I have over 1000 hours in attila, and the game isn't even that old
Warhammer is very simple but if you like the setting it's really great.
Atilla or Shogun 2 are the best games. Full stop.
>paying for a graphics option
Teethman is that you?
Warhammer if you like your combat more arcady.
...
The autoresolve is the main problem with Warhammer right now. That and the Campaign's empire management is far too simplified.
...
how embarrassing
Yep.
Still pretty fun to watch giants smash stunties.
...
The last patch made it a bit better now your stronger units are not almost at their death.
those islands aint no joke man
Nah. Most of it was cause they open fired on each other.
Check out total war center for this one napoleon mod the name escapes me but they have a bunch of differant scenarios and they added 1000s of units to the game
...
