Actually when you swing a sword or a dagger, the actual range of the attack in real life is always the same, regardless of the length of the blade used, because your center of gravity shifts according to the length of the weapon and the stroke will always end up reaching the same distance.

If we take "broadsword" to mean early modern basket hilts then katanas are actually way heavier

It's the draw force. An english longbow from that era has anywhere from 80 to 190. A modern longbow has a 'mere' 60-80. Hunting bows go anywhere from 40 to 70, and that's enough to kill most anything you'd want to put an arrow in.

You'd be pretty hardpressed to find someone in today's world who could handle anything in the 120+ range.

I think it's supposed to be that it's not real ammunition, but ammunition that causes the whole thing to vibrate violently so that when you stab someone you pull the trigger and the vibration makes the wound worse.

The problem with later period full plate armor was mobility, it really did weigh up to 110 pounds. It was a lot more practical to just wear a breastplate, a lot like how we wear Kevlar today.
