Was he right, or it was just an excuse?

This game was silly. I wonder who I should join.
>My family and comrades

>Deathcorps
Let's go with the Deathcorps!

Algust probably did have the right idea.

Except he would of turned on you either way and helped bring zodiac stones to people that would of just turned into monsters and fucked up the world incredibly.
Ramza's brothers pretty clearly said fuck alma, he already knew they'd throw him to the wolves with their father gone.

Excuse, of course. He feels he needs to make up for something that his grandfather did, so he's doing everything he can to make his name worth something again.

Because everything more than a charge +5 is impossible to hit

female black mage is undoubtedly the cutest

Zalbag seemed alright. Dycedarg probably would have turned Alma over to the Temple Knights for their nonsense, but Zalbag probably would have valued his half-sister over some prophecy. If they just got rid of Dycedarg it would have worked out.

>b-b-but Teta!
You know what they say about animals.

Did anybody else keep a red chocobo on their team permanently?

Shadowblade

Male Generic: Ninja with steal skills
Female Generic: Priest with calculate and auto-haste perfume.

Mustadio
Lancer
Oracle
Two hand or whatever it's called from the samurai ability.

>Did you somehow forget the part where he ordered Algus to murder Teta and didn't even think twice about it?
There was nothing wrong with it, she was just a peasant and was taken as hostage, she literally had no value. And it's not even about being edgy, so don't even start. If they decided to save her they could lose hundreds of soldiers lives latter

Just an excuse.

You are not unique.

You are not special.

You are easily replaceable.

Agrias really grew on me. If it wasn't such a bitch to upgrade her speed.
>Favorite male generic
was either Geomancer or Lancer, geomancers were fucking cool + they got an option of axe not that I'd use one because of that fucking
>thunk

>Favorite female

>favorite skill
throw stone
Real simple, but it reminds me of my childhood scraps.
plus when I think about it in a video game it's a pretty brutal fight when you got weapons and people are fucking picking up rocks and bashing one another with them.
although that's probably a game mechanic problem not being able to boost magic attack power enough to use it as a reliable secondary skill on a fighter type guy.

The soldier's literal job is to protect the people

A soldier's job is whatever his lord or employer tells him to do.

Pretty sure it isn't
Anyway, why some posts were deleted?

Chivalry cuck detected

He was right but he was trying to manipulate Ramza into assisting jerks instead of people who really would have benefited.

Not quite. Depends on the Army.
Soldiers should defend others for the most part. Not "kill everything we tell you too!" necessarily.

wouldve

That's modern soldiers, though. Back in older times, your soldiers did whatever you told them so long as you had the respect, authority or power to have them do it. You had to convince them it was right, intimidate them into thinking you wouldn't get away with insubordination, or bribe them with rewards and promotions to assuage their guilt and fear.

would've*

Men live and die by their dreams. But long after they have been abandoned they still smolder deep in men's hearts. Some see nothing more than life and death. They are dead, for they have no dreams.

I really hate how characters become irrelevant from chapter to chapter. Like you get Agrias and she starts showing up during story bits then as soon as the chapter is over she becomes just a generic party member.

His family were bad people and Ramza realised this and left because he is a massive moralfag in a grimdark setting

You can't save these qt White Mages, instead you have to brutally murder them.

woodehv

>a weeb waxes philosophical over war
A dreadfully simple lot, you weebs.

Eh I think tactics covered it pretty well. They really only needed to show respect to people they felt they needed to. Pretty much someone more powerful or had more allies. More of a personality thing if they were a prick all around.

Olden times, defending the weak was the standard of a true warrior as much as it is for modern times.

>WotL script
gross

If you really wanted to, couldn't you just raise a Mediator before the battle and recruit them?

>Shadowblade

>moralfag
>grimdark

I remember a time when plots, settings and themes were just taken at face value rather than being farted through a filter of glib interwebs cynicism.

I don't usually say this but people who defend the original script are actual nostalgiafags

Chapter 1 is MAYBE passable but by the time you get to chapter 3 it is incredibly clear the translators did not give a fuck and every second sentence is hard to understand

>mfw FF12 feels like a true sequel to FFT

Are you new? I shouldn't have to explain that those are general descriptions of character types and used in a very general way, usually suggesting very little about anything except a vague description, no one takes them that seriously.

I don't think you know what sequel means.

It doesn't at all, the setting isn't even remotely similar and the protagonist is a typical modern FF fuccboi

I've got a PSX version and emulate the PSP one out of convenience, the script change is such a minor thing compared to FPS drops. At least you get Dark Knights, but why no Holy Knights? Why so edgy SE?

Ramza Beoulve: Wiegraf! You live?
Wiegraf Folles: I have lived for this, Ramza. How long has it been since we last met?
Ramza Beoulve: Then you were a warrior who fought to make your dream reality. Now you are only a thrall of the Church.
Wiegraf Folles: What troubled sleep have you known, to speak of my dreams? No matter how sweet, a dream left unrealized must fade into day. Only with power can dreams be made real! I see the truth of it now. What good, dreams, without that power? You think me a thrall? So be it! Your envenomed words succour me, for when at last you yield - as you must - their poison will consume you!
Ramza Beolve : I pity you, Wiegraf. Even as a man of broken dreams, you might still have been remembered fondly. Your ideas lifted the people, showed them the cracks in the age-old facade of the aristocracy. You acted on your convictions, and so ennobled those actions! But what would the people think now? What would Milleuda and your fallen friends think of this barter you've struck? Dreams built on borrowed stone are defiled before they are made!
Wiegraf Folles: What have you done that did not rely on the labours of others? From birth you have wanted for nothing! You can not know what it is to live the meager life we do. Reason may trick you to believe you do, but your heart can never know! Harsh is the world in which we live. Harsher still than you can imagine. You have neither right nor reason to pour scorn on me!
Orran Durai: I know not what brings men joy. Of what drives them to great deeds, of what legacies they hope to leave, I know less yet. But I do know this: The true hero of this tale was the man forgotten.

Man, WotL script was such a huge improvement over e a s y m o n e y

The only hard to understand bits are the Germinok Scriptures (actual unmitigated disaster) and a few rare typos (Dycedarg's elder brother). The original script is truer to the JP script and isn't filled with nonsense ye olde engrish.

Also, WotL got rid of spell chants. Fuck that.

I was perfectly clear with what I meant and intended to say. You used stupid, immature buzzwords to diminish the quality of something that was actually very mature, well written and deeply nuanced especially for its time. Your attitude and your approach to all things media makes me sick.

I actually liked this guy
Why japs always try to pull church is evil plot into every game

WotL script smacked of tryhard linguists fresh out of college. It was terrible and every single person had the exact same tone. They forgot to give different characters different personalities.

>Americans think that is "olde English"

Kek

I knew your educational system was fucked, but I never got to see it first hand until now

>original JP script
The original JP script is some of the blandest shit you will ever read. The localizers did this game a favor.

Whatev

>it's another "nostalgiafags think the wotl script isn't superior" episode

Apparently you didn't read 'nonsense' ye olde english.

>The localizers did this game a favor.
Maybe they should have made their own game since they're so much better at storytelling.

>why was the poach/secret hunt skill so fucking cool but i never really used it?

There were a shit-ton of unique items from poaching, though.

It was the only source of multiple perfumes for female characters, it was the source of the statistically best light-armor in the entire game. It was a source of infinite defender knight swords. Among many other things.

There was a ton of good shit to be had from poaching.

This is true but you can easily get a modded iso that fixes the framedrops, assuming you have a hacked PSP, which you really should

with a mediator you can i think

Defenders aren't that good though

FFXII is a prequel you dumbo

FFXII ----> FFTA2/FFTA ----> FFT ----> Vagrant story ----> FFTA real world

No, but you have to remember the game really only hands over two knight swords otherwise: An Excalibur with Orlandu, and a Save the Queen with Meliadoul.

The rest you have to find with Move/Find item in the Deep Dungeon (and even then, you're not 100% assured to find them) or catch them from the Ninjas in the "HORROR" level of the Deep Dungeon.

Defenders are better than any of the other common store-bought swords, though.

wee graph?
why graph?

bye graph?

I'm sorry but I really think you're on the wrong website if that's all it takes to set you off

Meh, the tone of the original is charming and immersive in a "this is a complex person who is trying hard to communicate through a barrier so at least he must be sincere" kind of way that a foreigner kind of way.

WotL is like a wacky clown popping out and saying "WE'RE HAVING FUN HERE! THIS IS A GAME WE'RE DOING SHAKESPEARE! GUYS, RHYMING COUPLET, AMIRITE!?" every third line.

>check my records
>apparently I let one of my guys die

I really don't recall this happening. Is there a story thing where a party member has to die?

Whats going on in this thread?

Vee igrav

Anyone who even remotely compares this game to Shakespeare is a mouth breather, and it's almost as if they're intentionally trying to make people disregard their shit opinion

thats literally, LITERALLY, LITERAL FUCKING LY FFTA

the sound effects are too fucking good.

I'd give Agrias the milk of human kindness if you know what I mean ;)

The whole WotL translation is affectedly Shakespearean, drop out. Return and get thy GED.

War of the Lions:
Argath: You, no less human than we? Ha! Now there's a beastly thought. You've
been less than we from the moment your baseborn father fell upon your mother in
whatever gutter saw you sired! You've been chattel since you came into the
world drenched in common blood!
Milleuda: By whose decree!? Who decides such foul and absurd things?
Argath: 'Tis heaven's will!
Milleuda: Heaven's will? You would pin your bigotry on the gods? No god would
fain forgive such sin, much less embrace it! All men are equal in the eyes of
the gods!
Argath: Men, yes. But the gods have no eyes for chattel.
Milleuda: You speak of devils, not gods!
Delita: Ramza, is this woman truly our enemy?

PS1:
Algus: Human? Hmph, ridiculous! From the minute you were born
you had to obey us! From the second you were born you were our
animals!!
Miluda: Says who!? That's nonsense! Who decided all this?!
Algus: It's the Will of Heaven!
Miluda: Heaven? God would never say such things! In his eyes,
all are equal! He'd never let this happen! Never!
Algus: Animals have no God!!
Miluda: !!!!
Delita: Ramza, Is she really our enemy....?

Ranking:

Japanese > wotl > original

Man, shit opinion. I thought this was a very clear example of why the PS1 translation is superior.

No accounting for taste, I guess.

I legitimately think the Japanese is worse too, bland as fuck

Your ranking makes no sense.

>the more literal the translation, the better!

I find it hard to believe you actually understand Japanese if that's what you think.

*screeeech*
ARCHERS ARE OP!!!!!!

man this game had so much potential

You're free to like WotL's script better if you like, but one of the things is showing is that it's full of made-up lines they added in.

In b4

>It's just localization brah
>It's just adding flavor brah
>I'll bet you like the honorifics in Persona, lol senpai baka desu-san

The problem isn't actually Archers/Ninjas

It's that map designs are generally REALLY stacked against the player, with you always starting at low ground and assuming you're not cheesing the game with the OP classes, you're almost always at a disadvantage if you try to properly fight the enemy, which encourages you to save your special moves to 1 or 2 shot the enemy leader to quickly end the map

The chaos frame system encourages this as well

I think it's kind of intentional based on how the maps are made but it's still a pretty shitty and brainless way to play

I don't understand the Japanese, but I think naked, forceful expression is much better than putting on cheap rice and rouge just because. The translator got wayyy to excited.

Just saying things as simply as possible is pretty damned tough to beat and follows a lot of conventional wisdom about writing anyway.
>don't use a dollar word when a 10 cent one will do
>simplicity is beauty
etc

Are you implying thats not true?

Literally no tactics game I can think of doesn't have atrocious class balance, but no one is making you make your entire team archers anyway

i king of see your argument but there are winged units

oh yeah the leveling system is also retarded

One of the few lines that I think was better in the PS1 translation is "Animals have no god!"

It fit with the tone of the remake's script and sounded more forcefull, don't know why it wa changed.

Archers really stop being a brute force way to get through the game around late Chapter III, then you need to start leveling up those casters cause multi-target spells become real useful

They went one step further in the original game. There was some manuscript in the game that you could could actually read if you wanted to. It basically painted Jesus Christ as a charlatan.

Right I love it when my Medieval inspired games all talk in modern accents. Fuck immersion.

WotL just went too far and into xD territory.

this
mediator's can invite animals

are there games like fft, with character creator and choices?

Yes

Thanks

>Soldiers should defend others for the most part
>That's modern soldiers, though
Let me guess: both usafags?>A soldier's job is whatever his lord or employer tells him to do.

>Blame yourself or God

What did Delita mean by this?

No one is saying the quality approaches Shakespeare, you autist. They're saying it's a shitty attempt at stylistically imitating Shakespeare/Early Modern English (which doesn't even fit Tactics' pseudo-medieval setting).

That you're god

Is my waifu ready to wreck people?

Well, he died. And I loved murdering his faggot ass again in WotL.

Fuck his dreams and yours too.

No it doesn't. It doesn't even feel like a successor to FFTA, and that's the game whose actual version of Ivalice it's closer to using.

(You)
>That's modern soldiers, though
Let me guess: both usafags? (You)
>A soldier's job is whatever his lord or employer tells him to do.

Both of these are me. I know not every soldier has upstanding morals, but as education and moral standards became more widespread, soldiers became less likely to engage in unsavoury behaviour, or to follow more evil orders blindly. Not that they stopped doing it, but it's not as bad as it used to be.

I know, dipshit. Anyone who thinks this is trying to sound like Shakespeare hasn't ever read Shakespeare and understood what they were reading. Where's the stanzas in wotl? The imagery? The poetry? The tight structure?

Oh, wait, a character said 'tis, it's clearing trying to be like Shakespeare.
