I have hopes that this will be better than XIII and XII. The real test is if it is better than X. For me, it will mostly hinge on if they put a good amount of fun sidequests into it and make sure that exploration doesn't get too dull as most open world map designs have a problem with.

It plays like a theme park MMO but worse. Side content is zilch.

FF doesn't follow a strict pattern to begin with. Either way, the flaws with X are not from being a FF. They are flaws with the game even if the game existed on its own. Extreme linearity in a game like this is a major flaw.

Generally speaking, the games get better until around V. For V through IX, the games are similar enough, so personal tastes are going to be a bigger factor in which you think is best. Starting from X, the series starts to change in major ways that starts to make it unrecognizable, and according to most, worse. XIII is agreed to be a complete bottom point in the series.

I honestly can't play favoritism between VI, VII, VIII, and IX. I like them all for their own reasons. FFT is my GOAT though.

One of the key ingredients in an RPG is exploration. Being extremely linear means there is no exploration. Some linear gameplay can be feasible as exploration is still possible, but FFX is TOO linear.
