Totem Tribe II: Jotun

Hello, komrades. Developer here looking for a feedback regarding his game in development.
(Who am I kidding, I am looking for people to mock me without even trying the game)
Before I even started - the game is F2P, so don't be shy and tell me what a greedy piece of shit I am. Don't miss the chance to do it up straight.

Still reading instead of rushing towards the keyboard to toss shit at me? Good. Let me tell you about the game.

While the game is MMORTS at it's core sort of Civilization meets Age of Empires, we've tried to mix up all the genres together we were able to grab with our twisted hands.
On top of traditional 4X flavor we have added solid RPG elements. No, it's not just leveling up your hero and pretending he is some kind of King of whatever. I am talking about
old-school RPG stuff like in Baldur's Gate, where there are non-linear quests and characters you can have non-linear conversations with. The conversations and available actions are based on stats and things you did before, i.e. characters may flirt with you if you show up naked and all that kinky stuff.

Aside strategy and RPG there are also numerous smaller bits like puzzles, a bit of crafting, adventuring, even hidden-object seeking your grandma loves to mess with.
I could go on and on about how awesome our game is (and honestly who would spend 5 years of precious life developing steaming pile of shit), but I would rather post some screenshots and wait for questions.

The game is currently in closed alpha stage limited to selected testers since I don't think our servers can handle any reasonable load yet, but I will take a chance and open access for the limited time for you komrades following this link:

beware - a lot of marketing (albeit truthful) bullshit there.

INB4 pay2win

Is this a mobile game?

Nope, It's a Windows PC download.

This is how the world map looks like. This one is fully uncovered, but you need to explore it to remove fog of war just like in Civilization. You can find some places of interest in it - like globals, town of other players and most improtantly - quest locations where you can travel and explore its contents.

And we'd still have to wait extended periods of real time for units and buildings?

Or pay real money to boost it, I assume.

I'd rather buy a $40-60 game than deal with this shit. Pass.

You are damn right about this komrade. While I would love to make it one-time payment, this way I would not be able to buy a green Lambo in a lifetime. I hope you can fogive this small weakness of mine.

BTW we are seriously working to keep the balance in order so it won't turn P2W and I think we suceeding so far, but who's gonna believe me, right?

This looks interesting OP and I would like to give it an honest try, unfortunately I'll be in class all day today and won't have time to download until later. How long will your link be open for

It sounds interesting, but the online/mmo parts of it make not personally interested.

You say it's like civ or age of empires. Are there multiple playable factions/civs?

Hey no offence man, but is this just one of those games you see in youtube side adds?

I've yet to find a single game that has balance with a microtransaction system.

Unfortunately no, komrade. We are a small indie developer and have no money to spam the internet with out ads.

Alright, then i'll check it out.
Not a huge fan of these games but hey, its f2p

I don't really give a shit about the competitive aspect or how something is or is not P2W. But if the game dissuades me from playing it because I have to wait for some inane shit to finish upgrading or building, it's worthless to me.

The only game I saw do this right was MGS V, because you could very easily continue to play all of the game while waiting for whatever thing you had baking.

But you'll make tons of money off of idiots and grandmothers who play this.

Oh wait, Tencent just bought Supercell.. so unless you work for one of them, you probably won't.

My advice is to shop this to Tencent to see if they'll pick it up. If you really spent 5 years making this.. you kinda wasted your time.

No factions, but the tech tree has non-linear parts where you can pick one unit which will lock out other units, thus making it a bit of a customized faction. There are also various politics (only 2 implemented so far) which has different set of bonuses and drawbacks. Here is how the tech tree looks like.

I will try to keep the link up for as long as possible, but if the server will become overloaded, I will have to shut it down.

I totally understand you, bro. This type of games are not for everyone. Since you don't care about such games, would you kindly forward the link to your grandma?

Depends.

You gonna pay me?

Alright.

If I get some time later and the link is still up, i'll try it out.

In any case, I hope this pans out for you, i've been working on a game myself for years and I know how much hard work goes into this stuff.

You should try posting this on reddit. if you really want people to get interested

Thanks for the tip, but unfortunately I don't have a reddit account and they have nazi rules when it comes to self-promotion. I've been living in a basement for the last years working on the game. Turns out the internet changed quite a bit since then. Maybe someone with an established account could post it there.

>nd they have nazi rules when it comes to self-promotion

As long as you message the mods and get approval first on an appropriate subreddit it should be fine. Posts there that are showing off things that person made get popular there all the time

Here is an example of interaction with NPCs. This is the Necromancer who can visit your towns from time to time. You can sacrifice your units to him and he will turn them into skeletons and zombies. It turns out perfect at first because undead do not need food for upkeep, but later you will find out about their special... bonus.

How mnay artists did you have?
There seems to be alot of different styles around.

>button up shirt with ooga booga club, grass skirt, and gladiator sandals

What the hell?

We used to have 2, but now just 1. Plus a freelancer who does portraits.

Well, it's complicated... According to the story you are summoned in this world from another epoch (you can pick which). Then you took comand over primitive tribe in the Stone Age and develop them into the future. The picture displays character summoned from industrial age and his casual outfit gets replaced bit by bit for stone age stuff.

He clearly browses /fa/

Take your sarcasm back to rebbit fuckface.

Some ships in place

Usually these kind of games indeed require to wait a long time, but we have tried to get away with it by adding various small activities you can take part meanwhile. For example the RPG part I have mentioned mostly has no waiting and plays immediately, plus there is various activities like puzzles, minigames, item collection, etc. This should keep you occupied while extended tasks happening, but eventually there may be prolonged waiting periods still. It's getting better with updates which add new content though.

Go shill your shitty mobile game somewhere else. No, being sarcastic, cynical or "calling it" won't make what you're doing here any less rule-breaking.

Hero equipment. The industrial stuff is in the backpack, Classical Age items equipped.

different climate

medieval and stone age buildings together in the same town

Hero creation screen as minimalistic as it gets

This is how the game looked like 4 years ago. Ugly as hell, but we've came a long way.

You said this of an MMORTS. It's that to say that there's RTS battles in it?
What kinds of interactions with other players can I have?

Xbox hueg UI

Everyone is playing in real time and can attack anyone else. While you can't control units in battle directly, you can strategize by picking various unit combinations and then view the in-detail battle reports per each round like who hit whom and so on.

The player interaction not limited to that but attacks play a major role, there are also trades, reinforcements, alliances, and ofcourse culture (border) war where you push the borders of your neighbor with your high culture. There are other types of interactions like taking some other player under your protectorate for a fee or lending globals to your neighbor but those are the advanced bunch and come later in the game.

>As long as you message the mods and get approval first on an appropriate subreddit it should be fine.

Well, I have contacted the mods and nope, not gonna fly, they said it will break the rule of self-promotion like I have initially suspected.

What if you'd rather not partake in online battles?

There are quite some casual players looking for that too. There is a politics for solo players which will boost your defenses by 3x but also cuts your attacking power by 3x as well. While this won't grant you invincibility, it will shoo away all the random looters quite fine and will give you enough time until you get used with the game and decide to join alliance or work of your defenses seriously.

Plus there is a prolonged beginner protection (apart from standard 1 week invincibility from start) which will kick in if you are being attacked too much.

Honestly I've made this game very graceful to the new players because when I tried to play Evony and got wiped off the next day beginners protection ended I though I will do something totally different with my game.
