You know, I feel like something that made SotC one of my all-time favorite games was it's uniqueness. No game had really done what it had done, plus it had great gameplay and interesting characters and plot to boot.
The fact that this Prey for the Gods doesn't seem like it has a single original bone in its body (SotC with survival, loot, and dodge-rolling!) really puts me off of it.
If Shadow of the Colossus is Dark Souls, this game is It's Lords of the Fallen.
So it's alright for a reduced price?
>dodge-rolling
SotC had dodge rolling
>Spiritual sequel to Shadow of the Colossus
Isn't it called The Last Guardian?
This is just a ripoff like MN9.
>kickstarter
>female protag
Hahahah
I think he meant it's a poor imitation whose creators don't understand the success of the original.
I somehow either didn't know this or have forgotten it. Either way it means it's about time to replay it.
No, LotF is shit and not worth anyone's time.
>Kickstarter
no
i'm pretty hyped
more SotC is something i always wanted
To be fair SotC had dodge-rolling too. The only thing I don't much care for is the grappling hook.
>survival game play
Fucking dropped.
>survival game
FUCK OFF.
>just like SotC!!
>but made by western talentless frauds!
haha, no
does anyone know if there will be any smaller monsters to kill between boss fights?
It's not just that, op. It's the spiritual sequel to Deus Ex, DayZ, SotC, and Bloodborne!
>Prey for the Gods ambitiously combines the game play of Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ, and BloodBorne
Holy shit the buzzwords are real. Using Dark Souls instead of Bloodborne would have overloaded this sentence.
Last Guardian is more like Ico. Big dog instead of a frail girl. Heavy on the platforming light on the colossal boss fights.
>spiritual squel
No it isn't, if anything it's a spiritual succesor, but that would imply that it's as good as the first one
Yeah, it looks like a crappy Hollywood thing, has the same feel all these expensive AAA games have to them. I don't know what it is about them, they have that certain look to them that while technology-wise is totally fine it completely lacks any life. It's mostly Western games that do that, though not only.
A game only gets to be the spiritual sequel of something if it is made by the same fucking dev team, you fucking invalid.
This is not a spiritual sequel, it is a shameless fucking rip off.
Three great games (and Day Z) for the price of one? This might be the best development team of all time.
>while technology-wise is totally fine it completely lacks any life
Because they can teach you how to make graphics but to make something that has soul and fun you have to be creative. That's the hard part.
I was interested before I read there was like 6 bosses.
>kickstarter
well good luck to it I guess. I haven't given money to any kickstarter and I'm not about to start
>studio from Washington
>America
>ever making something of SOTC quality design
Never gonna happen. The culture doesn't allow it.
It's already more progressive :^)
>those janky ass animations
Dropd
>"Spiritual"
>kickstarter
NOPE go fuck yourself
>western games
>kickstarter
>DUDE LET'S TAKE THIS AMAZING PIECE OF WORK AND JUST STRAIGHT UP PLAGIARIZE IT LMAO.
Fuck off with this shit.
Come up with your own ideas.
>Spiritual
I can't even entertain it as it's a rip off from the concept. Nothing to stop them from actually taking it in a different direction, but instead they opted for expansive wilderness and decorative monuments.
They should of at least showed human enemies since how the fuck did those hanging corpses get strung up.
Why do people put grappling hooks in games about climbing
>Spiritual sequel
>kickstarter.com
here we go again
i'd love this shit if the monsters didn't look like plush toys and actually took advantage of a hard to see in environment.
Now I'm just upset that a Snake eater/SoTC hybrid is shit.
>take [popular game] while not actually undertstandng what made it great
>mix it with "souls",grindy RPG, crafting and survival elements and CINEMATIC EXPERIENCE
>give it a more progressive female/black character
literally every AAA western game
>Eastern Spiritual successor
>Borrows concepts from the game its trying to be the next of well having its own core game and personality
>Western "spiritual successor"
>Literally just a worse uninspired version of what it was trying to be like
>Will have a few contrarians who claim its better then the original with shit reasons.
Reminder.
Yup, completely agree.
...
>not a single talented person working on it
That's just sad. I'll wait for TLG instead, thanks.
>random dudes who have never made a game before
Sounds good! I'm donating $2000
>One band makes a really fucking good song
>A shitty garage band years later realizes that they're not that great on their own merit, so they perform the other band's classic song in their style, as a cheap nostalgia publicity ploy
IT'S AN HOMAGE GUYS.
Also, if I see one more fucking game where the protagonist is a woman with a crossbow im going to nuke every country on the planet.
I don't have a problem with female protagonists because im not a neckbeard but Jesus Christ, they make the same bitch everytime
I want Laura Croft 2.0, Horizon_Girl, the chick from this game to somehow become sentient AI and delete themselves.
East tries to expand and explore on fellow developers ideas.
West is just "wow dude we're shit at this video game thing so lets just rip-off whats popular and resonate well with the public to make lots of moneys who cares if its shit or not".
>Having a dodge makes it BloodBorne gameplay
>BloodBorne gameplay
>Specific to BloodBorne
The core of Souls games/BB is like a very bare bones action game but it keep up by having a good world/creativity. So having the dodge from it does not make it unique.
> they make the same bitch everytime
Just like they make the same generic Nathan Drake action hero every time. And just like they have the same orange and blue box art ever time. It's typical western lack of creativity and hunger for money.
Oh god, that webm. Holy shit.
But yeah, creativity is very scarce these days. Can't really expect a charismatic/unique protagonist anymore.
>It's shadow of the collossus with a crafting system
>Developed by 3 nobodies (2 artists and 1 dev)
How do people fall for these obvious trainwrecks
>spiritual sequel
>kickstarter
>650$ for gtx1070
FUCK, i should've jumped on that since the 1070 costs like 850$ in europe.
>spiritual sequal
You mean ripoff?
Kick-starter is such a joke, if any drv went to an actual publisher and just said "it's x mixed with y and a little z" they would be a laughing stock, yet people literally give thousands to this obviously completely unplanned pandering piece of shit
It's NMS all over again.
looks neat
but i have no money so i can't back it, and probably won't be able to buy it when it's done either
Its nice that it has a small realistic scope, But I feel like it doesn't have an identity of its own.
like Shovel knight is obviously inspired by games like megan man and other nes action games but it still has its own unique formula and character that it doesn't look like its dick riding.
this just looks like a fan game.
>jump cuts with black 1 second screen
Why do American's love this?
>SotC spiritual sucessor
>5 bosses
>Every other boss is DLC
Insta-pass
>made in unity
It justs gets better and better.
I think the female protagonist w/ bow is becoming a thing because of the Hunger Games.
But yeah, it sucks. No creativity involved, just pandering to trends.
Which, I get you NEED to acknowledge trends to a degree or you'll become outdated but c'mon son.
No more bows. PLEASE.
Shadow of the Colossus is one of my favorite games that I feel doesn't need a sequel, so pass.
The Xydonia kickstarter interests me though.
This game's a cheat.
Fuck off.
when the chinks copy paste a game or something its a rip off
OH BUT WHEN THE WEST DOES IT ITS ACTUALLY JUST A "SPIRITUAL SEQUEL"
its not a spiritual fucking anything unless some of the original creators are working on it
they are being literally worse than the Chinese
>$25 for a better grappling hook, only during the KS period over a year in advance of the game's release
>$50 for a stat-buffing skin, only during the KS period over a year in advance of the game's release
>$75 for a better pouch, only during the KS period over a year in advance of the game's release
>$100 for a stat-buffing skin for your wolf, only during the KS period over a year in advance of the game's release
>$250 for a raven familiar, only during the KS period over a year in advance of the game's release
I look forward to pirating this in 2018 if it's miraculously not garbage.
> “Prey for the Gods ambitiously combines the game play of Shadow of the Colossus, Deus Ex, DayZ, and BloodBorne.”
LOL
The music is generic garbage so far. No, it being a trailer doesn't allow for benefit of doubt. This is when you should show off things, music included.
That falling shot in the second trailer was a shot to their own foot. That lifeless static fall animation did it no favors.
You got monhunt/dorksouls i-frame dodging as well. That shit does not look nice. Your character clips through a fucking giant arm and that's suppose to be an example of 'realistic' mechanics? sotc is a puzzle boss simulator, meaning you find ways around the arm, not noclip through it.
They need to mess with the filter and the draw distance or something cause those creatures dont look that big at all. Looks like someone scaled a model up in gmod. It needs some tricks to emphasize its scale
I like fighting giant things in video games. I donated 15. Come at me.
The Chinese would straight copy SotC into a card-based f2p app with chibi graphics or a multiplayer f2p FPS that randomly crosses over with Attack on Titan
This is just copying the premise
The fact theres no physical edition at all really rubs me the wrong way...
Well OP called it a spiritual successor. It doesn't say that anywhere in the KS or the youtube announcement vids
stop shilling kickstarters, you massive autists
>deus ex
what are you gonna fart pheromones to help talk down one of the bosses instead of killing it?
>Spiritual Successor :^)
Is this code for just rip offs now?
SOC does not need a sequel nor could you hope to make one.
Whats the biggest boss in games?
Im making a spiritual successor to Pong. I call it Ping
...
>Caring about what a AAA producer thinks
Do you actually, you know, like or play video games?
5 bosses holy kek hahahaha
Chronos
>prey of the gods
If this doesn't appeal to my vore fetish, I don't care.
...
>they think they can make a spiritual successor to shadow of the colossus with 300,000
wow. yeah maybe if you were making a retro indieshit 2d sidescroller. smells like a red herring already.
AND NOOOOO DEMO
INTO THE TRASH IT GOES!
I'm not talking about triple a literally any dev who wants a game idea to be taken seriously writes a gdd
dumb unityfag detected
Actually this is how movies are pitched.
The pitch for alien to publishers was "jaws in space."
No shit. Movies have been greenlit by having one sentence that amounts to X + Y and a successfull director's name. Literally just that.
How in God's name is Dude Sex similar to BB or GayZ
Basically this
Here's the thing, I think bows in games are fun. They're a bit harder to use than guns, so it's a bit more involved. Just because it's a trend doesn't mean you should automatically hate it. Bows have low ammo, short arcs, and slow rate of fire. Means guns are causal in comparison.
Lowballing Kickstarters is apparently a strategy. Just recently there was a case of devs going "yeah, this is actually not enough to finish the game. we're cancelling the project and keeping the money we haven't spent already".
The girl from horizon doesn't look anything like Laura you dumb shit. She looks like the girl from that scottish pixar film.
Its not. What they meant was they've tacked on a couple of RPG elements, probably a shit upgrade system or something.
You forgot
>protagonist is now black and/or female
>turns out to be a kickscammer
KEK
I'm sure these literal who's will manage to produce a soundtrack on par with one of the if not THE best soundtrack in video game history
I just said I'm sick of seeing cooking cutter female protags that all use bows.
>5 bosses
Nope
>300,000
I feel like budgeting should be a qualification that everyone involved in game design should take; when are people going to fucking realize how hard is and how much money/money it takes to make a good game, never mind a successful one.
For every Edmund McMillen there are hundreds of failed, broke teams.
