It's a repetitive and boring hack and slash. I honestly expected it to be a turn based game. It can be stylish but the protagonist is about the only thing is it has going for it.

Not a fan of this series, but Cavia closed down long before this game was made. They were just a work-for-hire dev who mostly made licensed games and spin-offs. It's the Drakengard series director who would probably be responsible for the things you listed.

They read Dark Id's Let's Plays and imagine it being worth sitting through hours upon hours of super-shitty gameplay to watch a few cutscenes and get some dialogue.
In reality Nier was the peak of their efforts and Nier was very mediocre in most respects.

None of the Drakengard or Nier games are good, they're what Neo-Sup Forums would call "meme games."

Come on, man, I just said you have to be tolerant of a game's flaws to enjoy them. They're not shitty games to everyone, though, like me. The Drakengard series is one of my favorites I've ever experienced, bad to mediocre gameplay be damned. The story, characters, music, and setting are all memorable enough that I don't mind the gameplay at all.

I played Drakengard 1 all the way to Ending E and liked it.

Everyone prepared me for such shit gameplay in Nier I'm actually having a lot of fun with it, the AoE attacks are awesome.

It would be about 5 times better if he didn't put away his sword every time you took a step forward though, makes it impossible to keep combos going.

Is it too much for me to say that I think Drakengard 1 is "decent"? I've only just started on 3 so I can't give a full opinion on it but I'm enjoying it so far.

It's functional and I don't think I saw a single glitch the whole time I played. I guess my standards are low enough that that's what it takes to get a "it's fine" from me.

Have any of you gotten a glitch where Zero suddenly starts speaking English while using the Japanese voice pack? It's only happening when I do certain attacks or call Mikhail but it feels weird.
