Pokemon is fucking huge, go to any college campus and even a large number of women will be playing it. People who aren't nerds or even play games regularly often have DS's just for Pokemon. It's a cultural phenomenon, and now that you can get it on your phone (which is ubiquitous among college students at this point, hell even most people period) that's a serious fucking amount of people who will play regularly. It isn't going to just go away or fade. No one cared about Miitomo or whatever because no one has cared about Wii branding in years. But Pokemon? You bet your fucking ass it'll stay popular. All they have to do is keep support for it and it'll coast on name recognition alone. Not to mention it's actually kind of addictive despite it not really being much of a game. It's a fun little time waster, a way to motivate you to go out, walk, explore your city and all that. That's why people like it, not because anyone has any delusions it's a deep or nuanced game or anything. Most people hate exercise, but coat it with a good enough reason or distraction from the fact it's exercise? It suddenly becomes fun and engaging.
