No, given how shit like star citizen or no man's sky gets so much attention on social media, I'd say its not about sci-fi. People just love to hate CoD because its the cool thing to do. Ever since BF2 era BF was seen as this realistic tactical shooter and CoD was the sand box for lil kiddies. In reality BF, where a player can jump out of their jet, quickscope the jet on their tail and get back into their jet mid flight is actually less realistic than CoD. When both series release a cinematic trailer at the same time and one looks "realistic ww1" and the other is clearly fictionesque, fanboys go wild as expected.

The games as a series really havent evolved since so for 8 years all the games have essentially been the same at their core and i find them boring now the way they play the gunplay everything is stale and feels like it belongs on gen 5

My biggest problem with cod is how it plays.

Cod1-4/waw was at least grounded in some sort of interesting oldschool fps but then mw2 and blops fucked everything up by turning it up to 11 and killing the mod scene and everything that made the games up until that point great, consolified EVERYTHING and i never touched the series again.

Activision tried tacking so many new gimmicks on with all the newer games it just didnt work and doesnt feel right.
